5 years ago, the economy was in a totally, totally different place. Just look at all the comments here, people saying they'll ONLY buy if something is at LEAST 90% off and things like that... usually that was a limited amount of people and it meant the back catalogue/old stuff... now it seems to be a majority of voices expecting new items to be bargain bin prices, instead of new store releases. Economic troubles, AI changing the digital and work landscape, cost of living going up while pay is stagnating, political uncertainties and weather issues (fires, etc) all add up to people having less money to put into hobbies and that means less money to support the artists who make the content for 3D.
There may be some who can manage to earn more than others by sheer volume but Daz isn't the only market struggling with the world changes and PAs trying to make ends meet.
Unfortunate but true. When economic issues hit, there's chain reactions that happen as a result. Sadly, things are going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
There's also the issue of not being able to put the genie back into the bottle. Many of us are used to the aggressive discounts, and when we see the changes, it can rub us the wrong way. But the reality is that with the world changes we're experiencing right now are coming very bad things, most of all, economic.
I also thought something similar. Funny, political topics are prohibited in the forum, but apparently not in the shop ... ;-)
I decided that the Floating Eye for Genesis 9 and 8.1 is amazing and worth the buy. Sorry, Vampiric Fly, but you'll at least be on my Wishlist. I like this eye because it acts as both amazing looking eyes for characters and a fully posable character. I usually gravitate toward anything fantastical or horror related, and this can do both, so that's pretty cool. With the extra 10% off it goes down to $20.78 without any tokens.
Well, there's always another sale, so they say. I've always waited in anticiaption for the new PC+, then DAZ+ items, but even those haven't done much for me in awhile. Chjevybabe new hair looks cool, if I could cut off those side tails or tie them back. Each to his/her own I guess.
Maybe I'm just finally to the point of done. None of the new releases do anything for me. Perhaps its just the fact the economy is getting bad and I'm tapped out, so my head is telling no more, no more, no more. I wouldn;t keep harping on things here, but its sad, as I've been here since before DAZ was DAZ. As the song says though, "all things must pass". Maybe Howie Farks will release something for Ultrascenery. Something different than so far.
I understand how you feel. Lately as I look at the new releases I don't get as excited as I used to. Even on Thursdays. I like the Floating Eyeball today (Hence why I continue to mention it
) but that's about it. I'm hoping they're saving some cool stuff for March Madness.
Lately I perceived these two TangoAlpha environments as quite impressive, but as i am broke they are out of reach for me:

I actually checked it out because you posted... and I'm quite bummed that I can't figure out how I would ever use a floating eye in my narrative because it's really cool and super well done. I hope I get to see how some other folks play with it. :)
Hoping they start MM a little early this year; I still have my $6/$18 coupon left and it would be nice to not wind up letting it expire again. At least I got some acceptable deals on the other one... a couple old sushi sets and a LD Zeddicus pose set that had some unique positions in it. Wound up paying about 33-cents an item, but they were all things I'd use in the reasonable future (unlike most of the DO's on my wishlist) so it was worth it to get those over something else that was more of an "eh, maybe someday" pick but kept my coupon from going to waste.
TAFF's Punting on the River is $61 right now. It will be a very long time until that one gets into my cart, if ever. But it is a really nice product though.
It's very discouraging to put all of the work into creating content when people expect to pay 5 dollars or less for it. I hope a reasonable solution is found for all, but it will take compromise.
My friend wrote a short film involving an eye and I had no idea how I could make it happen, but after seeing the eye today, I know exactly how we're going to make this film now and I am very excited about it!
For the record, I'm perfectly okay with spending much more than $5 for a product-I got the Floating Eye for Genesis 9 and 8.1 with the Add-On too, and those both came to $25 with 8 tokens (and earned 10 tokens back because it's Tuesday, so there's also that). Not all of us are all about the under $5 mindset-when we saw there was a minimum, part of that concern was how if that caught on, that minimum could be raised to $10, $25 or more, depending on the sale, and that wouldn't be a good model for consumers. It's good to prevent excessive discounting, though, which I agree with. If the product is something I like and I feel the price is reasonable, I'll buy it. As daveso pointed out, the Punting on the River being $61 right now is too much, but it'll be in my Wishlist for another time.
And now after mentioning the Floating Eye for Genesis 9 and 8.1 so many times, and across more than one thread, I'll make a render and show how it comes out.
it's not so much that we don't want to pay more for new stuff but we want some of the older stuff sometimes on our wishlists or just as extras we hadn't grabbed but every sale lately has a buy in requiring the newest thing (not even just a still new) and not that discounted anyway (the old stuff)
I actually dont care what the price is set to. When its too much, I don't buy. Very simple concept. Everyone's purchase point is different most of the time. I have plenty of items that I've purchased on opening day. The thing is, as the prices get higher it means my purchase point does not meet that higher price. Also very simple. At some point I might be priced out of shopping here. That time gets closer as the sales become less, the stacking dwindles, etc etc. Of course I wouldn't be a savvy consumer if I didn;t take advantage of the best price possible, as long as its within the price point I have. If it is $10 minimum and to me its not what I can afford, that will be it.

Checl this - talk about low pricing -This was on 1 Jan. 2025. I would be a fool not to take advantage. Sorry PAs... but its on DAZ, not the consumer, isn't it. So if its now makeup time, so be it. I will express my displeasure of pricing though, if I feel its too much.
I had to put the Floating Eye for Genesis 9 and 8.1 on the red carpet. Definitely worth the purchase!
This sums up my take on the minimum discount prices ("price floors"). I've never expected unrealistic discounts on new items, it's when they're used as buy-ins for a discount on older items that makes me reluctant to even consider the buy-in. DAZ has been discounting in general for so long that I've come to expect at least occasional generous discounts.
Oh yay! It's awesome when something like that comes together. I wish you both the best!
+1
Aren't most items on the list DOs? In that case, I believe PAs are not losing anything, moneywise, since the item was bought from them by DAZ for a lump sum beforehand. So here I wouldn't see anything to feel guilty about at all.
Thank you! :D
Is there any chance that LI Fur for Daz Horse 3 can be fitted to Daz Horse 2? I would buy it if I knew that was possible.
I don't expect that to be possible. At least for presets it is stated Hierarchical Material Presets which kinda excludes use on anything else than Horse3
Flash sale tile up on the main page.
it doesn't say anything about being stackable. I don't have anything to stack with it anyway, but just wondering. Would it be worth signing up for a membership? Premier? I think it would be better to wait until a Monday or Tuesday to buy anything now to take advantage of the double tokens.
The $10 off $25 coupon works with tokens so that much stacks.
I've edited this post to correct my earlier statement that tokens and the coupon don't stack, when in fact they do.
??
They should work, as long as you have a 25 $ cart after applying tokens.
Has this changed recently? They always stacked when I was a Premier member (a little under a month ago).
It was a case of "operator error" and I've edited the post to reflect this. I had dropped the cart price below the $25 amount. I was able to use some tokens that were about to expire and apply the coupon as well.
@daveso, I'd say subscribe sooner rather than later so you can take advantage of the coupons and don't miss out on a potential better deal you would have had with Premier. Everything is so random.
This is getting to be the time of year where a subscription would be useful- March Madness is approaching. I wonder if we'll see a Pre-March Madness Sale.
