    Complaints:

Nasty diabetic ulcer on my left foot, so it was hit the E.R. on the way in to work to get it looked at.  Did it this morning since my fave wound care specialist was in until 10AM and she's familiar with my situation as she took care of me after my amputation.  Looks like it's not through the second layer of skin so I caught it in time, just need to change dressing twice a day and keep antimicrobal gel on it.  If it gets worse I go back in and spend a few days there.. ugh.. and my medical insurance doesn't start until the 22nd!  indecision

Also got the expected lecture about letting my feet dry out.  Stupid as it sounds, if youi're diabetic it's no joke.. skin dries, it cracks, nice hole grows, it gets infected, you have to catch it quick and treat it or the infetion gets up into your foot and POW it's amputation time. indecision Oh, yeah - diabetes will lower the power of your immune system.  Nice. indecision

Whole affair is depressing as Hell, there's no cure, just putting off the inevitable hopefully long enough that you die of old age or in an accident first. sad

Need beer now, stuck at work.  And the boss scheduled that stupid 3PM demo so that I have to be perky! The bastard! angry

ouchie on the foot.  good to take care of it soonest.

can't believe my temp job, might actually turn direct after 13 years.  have to work 20 hours a week to qualify for medical ins. depends how rediculous the deductable is.

I pay in about $200/month and get $1000 deductible medical, $500 deductable dental, and no-deductible vision care.  I'm OK with that. indecision

Finished veggie beef soup, so stuffed, want nap...

So, in a perfect storm of situations you've paid $3900 to get $1500 worth of service?  Remind me again why it's called insurance.  I understand the purpose of deductables (to keep all the non-wealthy hypocondriacs and desperately lonely people from setting up house in the hospital) but sometimes I remember that deductables are a shell game we're intended to lose.

Shell game!  That's right.  Insurance is the protection racket, made legal!

...when the company I used to work for changed carriers, my deducible went for 450$ to 2,000$. On what I was earning, that 2,000$ could just as well been 20,000$ Immediately dropped my coverage as I would have been spending about 170$ a month in premiums along with rent and another 100$ just to get to and from work out of my meager pay. That 170$ was the difference between cheap "mystery meat" hotdogs and macaroni with orange powder in a box for dinner, and actually having healthy food on the table.  Eating well became "my" health plan.

That's big pharma and the medical industry on the whole.  They don't want you to die, but they don't want you to get totally well...they'd be out of business!

Complaint: When I'm in my account, in the dashboard, and click on the link at the top My Wishlist, this is what I see.  There is no vendor filter list, and where it says Sort by, there is nothing but space.  I have to select Wishlist from the little blue person with checkmark in the upper right in order to get the filters and sort options to show.  I've complained about this before, to help, and was told what users hate to hear from programmers or the help desk...it works for me.  Not acceptable.

What was that NCR device?  A comptometer?

Oh buggers!  I just lost a tooth filling.  Must have swallowed it but there's a hole in my molar where it used to be and I think it took part of the tooth with it. sad  Dentist warned me it could go soon, I delayed too long and now I'm going to have to at least have a new filling ($$) and he might have to replace the whole top with a crown ($$$). crying

...as to keyboards, I'm still more comfortable with the "conventional" style.  Tried one of those "ergo" ones for a while and my incidence of typos increased quite a bit.

An NCR device yes, but not a comtometer  It was known as a Ledger Posting machine.  I worked attached to the Foreign Exchange dealing room of a Major Highstreet bank in the City (London) and did Bought and sold Ledger for the Forward Contracts, It made like large spread sheets on thin card, and also could be fitted with a device to make paper punch tape to transfer to a Main Frame computer.

Morning. Seven years since the big fires here, we're calling it Black Saturday but I spent a few of those that were nothing like as scary as that day was. Such a beautiful day here today, it seems impossibly cruel that there are so many of us who aren't here to see it.

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,150

    ...yeah, teletypes were very noisy.

    So were card readers.

If you remember watching or listening to newscasts in the old days which were preceded by a repetitive "clacking" soundtrack, those were teletypes. Producers back then thought it created a sense of "urgency", and "importance".

trying to interact the cloud layers into scene, wanted ship to look like it was reaching cruise altitude above the cloud layers

this looked a lot prettier as an avi, was 40mb >.<

sky too many colors for gif difuse, guessing

hey great, ship looks big compared to the sky you might need to cheat a break through cloud with particles/snke but looks gorgeous anyhow 256 colours not so mant but you get the idea :)

i shrunk the ship to 10% . had the max altitude to 100 inches.  experimenting to see if 40% cloud altitude would be 40 inches.  still dunno.

started a new thing, smiley to watch some ironman or avengers at start of the weekend to help stay focused.

I reckon the more fun stuff like that you do the faster your skillset grows. If it really does take 5000 hours acquire expertise in something  you might as well be doing something funenlightened

aaand if the five thousand hour thing really is true how come my typing is getting so much worse over time ?

keyboards havent changed much.  cant remember the last time Pause/Break. SysRq, or Scr Lk did anything.

I think the biggest change is the ergonomic ones, like my favorite keyboard ever, the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, which I'm typing on at this moment!  Carpel Tunnel Syndrom Free!!!

Totally agree with you there, on my 3rd MS natural.

Last year I got a $25 gift card from Staples.  I used it to get a new one on sale (final out of pocket cost was $7 and change), and put the old one away for a backup.

I am pretty much a touch typist, and now find I can't touch type on a standard keyboard, so used to my natural one.  and I have been using keyboards for a long long time.  Started on one of these

whoa punch cards, and needle-sorts of databanks on those to make programmers crazy :)

What was that NCR device?  A comptometer?

Oh buggers!  I just lost a tooth filling.  Must have swallowed it but there's a hole in my molar where it used to be and I think it took part of the tooth with it. sad  Dentist warned me it could go soon, I delayed too long and now I'm going to have to at least have a new filling ($$) and he might have to replace the whole top with a cap ($$$). crying

An NCR device yes, but not a comtometer  It was known as a Ledger Posting machine.  I worked attached to the Foreign Exchange dealing room of a Major Highstreet bank in the City (London) and did Bought and sold Ledger for the Forward Contracts, It made like large spread sheets on thin card, and also could be fitted with a device to make paper punch tape to transfer to a Main Frame computer.

    wow !
