    Complaint: crabby. Got lied to about what kind of ZIP file I was supposed to read, they didn't know it was a 7-Zip compressed file so of COURSE none of my code worked.  Converted it to a standard ZIP and lo and fricking behold, my code works fine.  The only source code for reading a 7-Zip format was developed by a third party and hasn't been updated since 2015.  Told the boss, no response yet.  i guess he's in meetings.

    Deom Friday afternoon at 3PM.  I'm ready but not outrageously happy.  It's also in a meeting room, and I'm not on a laptop I'm on a bloody huge desktop machine.  Let's see how the boss works THIS one!

    The honeymoon is already over.  I'm not impressed with the level of communations here, and the lack of information that people seem to have.  But it's only the second week, let's see what next week brings...

    Meh.

    The best thing about standards is there is so many of them :)

    well that post really screwed up :)

    and I completely forgot what I was going to say about that. If you're gonna go with cinema formats you need to take the 24 frames a second pain as well, I'm calling shenanigans on down-interpolating from faster frame rates :p

    Aw, get rid of the pullups and put on your big boy drawers. It was a mistake, that's all. Never mind that they didn't know there was more than one kind of zip. Watch out, they may expect you to demo using Power Point. The level of communication and lack of information should make you feel like you're still at home. In case of emergency, grab a Shiner from the fridge and go to bed. lol {{{{Ed}}}}

    Try hard not to take it personally, personally. Hey there's that Roland chorus again :0

    I do think tho that the endless tinkering that goes on around software protocols like zip inevitably causes pain but is/will be hopefully leaving us in a better position than if, say, a ubiquitous Evil Corp controlled every single software protocol with ruthless but inhuman efficiency, which is what we were all looking at only 30 (?) years ago  :)

    Yep, I remember friends homes without electricity and kitchens with hand pumps for water.  I used to have to chop wood and throw wood or shovel coal into our furnace.  Before we had a furnace we had a pot-bellied iron stove in the living room that was intended to heat the six rooms downstairs of the house.  But the four rooms upstairs (including the only bathroom) were shut off by a door so no heat was "wasted" upstairs.  Used to have to shovel snow around outside of the house and bank it up against the stone basement walls to insulate it from the cold.  Pipes froze at least once every winter.  We used the coal/wood ashes to throw on the driveway for traction on the ice.  We cooked steaks in the furnace.  surprise

    And I used to have to walk to school 2 miles up hill both ways. wink

    ...I take it you are still looking for a "Carrara" system.

    I'd opt for at least the 16 GB version (2 x 8 GB or 4 x 4GB).  Something just doesn't' sit well with me regarding mismatched memory sticks.

    The 3.5 GHz heaxacore i7 would be the best value for rendering speed. As Carrara does not have GPU based rendering, the Nvidia GTX745 (which I think is the base GPU that comes with the system) would probably be fine. I'd definitely opt for the Win7 Pro OS over the Win10 Home edition.

    I'd dump the bloatware trial rubbish, especially McAfee. I still cannot get rid of one of it's files on my notebook which occasionally pops up as a conflict with my current AV. Most likely I will have to mess with the registry to eliminate it (something I don't look forward to doing).

    Also overclocking is really not necessary unless you plan to do gaming.  Personally I wouldn't bother with it as it will shorten the lifespan of the CPU.

    ...only had four stations when I grew up, the three main networks and a UHF channel.  Otherwise, save for the rollers, pretty much was the same for me though my idea of the mod woman was Lady Emma Peel (played by Dame Dianna Rigg).

    I run Carrara on a four core i7 for years it has been very reliable :)
