This is a fun bit of skimpware that actually fits nicely on men. You can hide the band top by adjusting opacity settings. This might be an interesting outfit for a club scene. It is also 72% off right now.

Okay here is my latest image. I wanted to try doing another 'lifting' pose, and so I had the guys group to lift that heavy cement piece there. Not an easy task. I also wanted to test out Drone Eyes.

I found the facial expressions on Sarge somewhat of a challenge. I am finding gen 3 male expressions can often be overdone and scrunch up the features more than I like.  I think I almost prefer Gen 2 expessions since they don't have that fluid scrunchy crunchy features. I was able to easily get the straining pose I was looking for on the gen 2 guys. But for Sarge it took many iterations and he still has a more sea sick quality than the 'hey I'm lifting something seriously heavy'.  Sarge's eyes also posed an issue, since they are light and did not show up as well as I Would like.

I wish the Concentrate facial pose was back for gen 3. My favorite gen 2 expression hand down, and Concentrated is not the same.

These guys actually look like they are lifting something heavy, nice job on the placement of them and the facial expressions

Me too. I think it looks a lot of fun on the men. It comes with a fun gun too. Here's the green version. The white version look nice too.

The grip on the beam is perfect, the tension in the arm can really be felt- so good!! The drone floating in back has awesome light, to me that is the most "reach out and touch" piece in the entire scene, due to the shadowing from the side. I think Sarge's eyes are fine, they're much better than having deer in the headlights type of lighting, I think you did a good job getting them to show up. Wonderful action!

I've been messing around with the Genesis Ultimate Military Basic set.   This one is called "The Mistake"

I'm interested in the big guns from the dystopian weapons set. They are somewhat challenging to pose with gen 3, mostly because of the hands of gen 3 are quite different than m4/v4  and some of the textures.

You have a very good ability with posing and expressions...they always look so real and lifelike.  You never have that deadeye staring into space look, and your expressions on their faces almost give me the impression that I know what they are thinking at that moment.  Love it!

Totally agree- I feel sorry for the recipient of that lecture!

One thing I don't like on the military equipment is the white lettering.  That's one sure way to call attention to yourself on a moonlight night out on patrol! "Hey sniper, over here- it's me, with the white print!"

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,647

@Kharma: thanks for the ncie compliment. I learned early to try to have figures looking at eachother, and not give them waxy expressions. That was sound advice. There is nothing ruined by an image of a figure staring off into space when it brings a scene to life to have the figures interract by eyeball pointing.

@Novica: Yeah, military equipment with white lettering is odd. But not uncommon I think in the store. The Dystopian Weapon's pack still looks really good, but could use a texture update. Even with iray applied it looks a bit dated. Still the base modesl are nice, and with some updated textures they could really shine, unfortunately, it did not do so well with my shader attempts. IT lost a lot of nuance.

Okay here is my latest Sarge image. I have gone back to 3delight for now, but spent some time on Sarge's skin which I want to optimize a bit more. The latest bout of 3delight characters have too much Ambient for me.

In this one, I have to say really love Porsimo's new gun set Sci-Fi Weapons collection 2. I recommend. Poses for both genders and hands as well, and parenting. Yeah!  I think is particularly necessary for gen 3.  Here's the link:

     http://www.daz3d.com/scifi-weapons-collection-2

Good set. so many guns aren't coming with hand poses for genesis  3, and I spend too much time trying to get hands to work well on the newer figures.  I have stopped doing that and will only buy gun sets with included pose. So this is a set you can really start using right away!

Well, looks my lucky day. A new HFS set in the store. Interesting. It wasn't there this morning! =-)

Agree, awesome expression on characters.  Great job Serene.

What, no one has any love for S3 the adorable bot hovering in the background?  wink

I like the camera angle with the weapon coming forward toward the viewer. Right in-your-face. I can see why posing hands would be a pain.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,647

Lol! Thanks everyone. The expressions are actually a few great sets called Jayne shoots from Rendo. I like them because they are less exagerated and 'sims 3' like. I tend to like the concentration/glare/stare kind of poses over the overly emotional happy ones. And those sets really look good I think nice for serious combat scenes.

@Novica. Yes Sarge tends to have a bot following him around! I like the drone eye because it had 5 custom options, including opening its shield flaps!

Here I have redone Boyd in iray. I wanted to try the rogue sci-fi bodysuit texture expansion expeditionary force. I think it looked pretty nice on the men!

Here is Me-Lin. Just a test render, but I think Mei-Lin Base is the most realistic DAZ studio female figure released to date.

I didn't think I was going to like her but I do and i like her more, the more I see of her.

I've been working with Iray more. This is Sci-fi Living quarters, and it renders nicely with iray shaders. This is a younger looking Sarge. If anyone sees a hair that is buzzed but not receding let me know!

Okay, Novica asked for some renders of Astraios ranger outfit. The outfit is rather expensive, so I only bought the male outfit and expansion pack. (Sorry ladies you'll have to wait for sale or get autofitted with the male version). I really like the set, expecially the expansion pack textures. The armor looks quite different than anything I've seen and really realistic and I like the armor colors and lights. I think this is truly the best suit of armor Midnight Stories has produced yet.smiley

The only area I do not like is the groin. It looks a bit....minimal on the guys. I even expanded the parameter dial for bulge to dial in some bulge at 200 percent  in the second pic in the but it looks a bit... High? Or Tight? OR ladies bikini bottom? Something. I don't know maybe you all have some suggestions.

The shoulder areas and neck are designed to accomodate the helmet which is oversized. There isn't a lot of detail in the neck region I assume because of this.

The first image shows older Sarge in his standard uniform on the left which is Larvae Armor  and Astraious Ranger on the right. The second image shows younger Sarge with uniform lights turned on. The second image has the bulge dialed to 200 but you can barely tell.

Um, I have to agree that the groin looks way too pinched, the rest of the armor is very intricate and well done. But men couldn't walk in that outfit without yelping in pain IMO.

Thanks for showing the two side by side! They're both impressive, and it is sci-fi, and I don't think most people would notice the small groin section due to the amazing details everywhere else.

Hey, Serene Night!  I just found your thread, and I love these male renders!  I will also try out some of the female outfits on the men (and vice versa) and often have good results.  I've tried the same with hair too.  Some of Vicky's hairstyles look great on guys, and others... well, that's not a render I kept.

Cool! I'm pleased to meet you.  I'm always looking for ways to stetch my character's wardrobes and hairstyles and since this is the future, the sky is the limit. Glad to have you on board and interested to see what you come up with. smiley
