I don't do a lot of modern stuff but I agree, they are usually pretty bare. it definitely makes things much more realistic. I've wishlisted those, because I do have plans for some zombie apocolypse type renders where that will come in most useful
I have a folder category I call junk and debris. Whenever I do a render, I see if there is any little thing I can add to clutter up a scene.
I've been enjoying the War Bird for Genesis 3 Females. It looks great on a guy, with some tweaks.
Exquisit! It's so bright and colorful! This almost looks like a comic book cover!
The rim lighting on his legs looks REALLY cool and really makes that character pop!
The new Cyclops HD suit by Luthbel is pretty awesome
You are a master of this style. I always enjoy your images. The last two (cyclops and war birds) really stand out.
Thanks! I really appreciate the nice comments!
Fantastic render! I adore Luthbel's stuff. I wish I could justify buying this one.
wow really love those last two! and definitely your style. Very well done!
Love the War Bird image and the one using the Luthbel suit! The colors really pop out.
edit: fixed spelling of vendor name
Here's one of Boyd falling out of bed- literally. This pose just caught my eye as being super interesting. Enjoy
Boyd looks good no matter WHAT he does lol! Nice render!
That looks AMAZING!
Do you use that Topaz filter to get the painted look?
Is it worth the price?
In this one, no, I painted the textures on in photoshop. You create a second layer, and using an overlay mode you paint on the color in question. This was needed because I had painted on the muzzle blast so the armor had no native reflections.
The only Topaz Lab filter I used was star effects, which I use in moderation, and scrub out the stars I don't want.
Glad you liked it.
Cool!
You should put your art on some T-shirts or canvas prints on society6 or something.
No one ever looks that good falling out of my bed.....
Apparently, Boyd does! ;) I have to smile every single time I see that picture!
@ Knittingmommy & Ice Dragon Art Thanks for your nice comments about Boyd. Boyd is one of my favorites characters mostly I really like smart funny guys and Boyd is such a good friend to Owen.
@Zoori, that is very nice to hear! Thanks. Welcome to the fourms.
Here are my two weekend renders. The first is Cyclops armor with the Nanoflight Getpack for Genesis. I also used IDG Iray FX Ribbons and SPrites for the engine fire. I highly reccomend it.
Here is my sceond render. It features Owen proving yes he can wear something other than combat armor. He is looking sharp in the 9 to 5 outfit which has nice collars.
I recolored the cup to be starbucks, since I'm a starbucks addict.
The vehicle is the Nemesis which looked great I think. Had to recolor the tires and rims, because the first time around it looked a bit plasticy.
I like both of you images! I looking forward to playing around with those Ribbons and Sprites. They look very good in your first image.
@Knittingmommy The ribbons were a good purchase. I like the fact that they aren't 'flat' so I could get a nice image from different angles. Placing them proved challenging at times and they did cast shadows if the lights hit them exactly right which was a bit of a pain. But I think they turned out well.
Wow this is really really impressive
Thanks! I really like the idg iray effects ribbons and sprites. Fun product
Okay here I will show you several new items.
First Boyd has the new supersuit as his top, and is wearing Tactical Boots and Pants both by Smay. If you haven't picked up the boots, you should. They are some of my go-to boots for characters because I really like the way they look and the color options which are nice and real world. Very good soles on the boots too. Something you don't often see in 3d models.
Tactical pants are also great, they have several options for more pockets and with or without belt. but you will have to dial down the shape of the male hips when using them. The pants add some bulk to the hips which may not suit your character and I thought it made the hips look a touch fem for my tastes. I dialed Boyd's hips down 49 percent to get a look I wanted. Other than that, just like the boots, great piece of work.
Rodi hair is a much needed hair for Gen 3 males. I found at default the forehead looks a bit high with this hairstyle especially sine there is a lot of volume on the top, however there are adjustments and you can use Nadino's forehead minimizer to take care of the high forehead look if the adjustments don't give you what you want. The hairstyle takes shaders nicely too so you can recolor it if you like. I particularly like the nape of the neck which I think is very sweetly done and shows great attention to detail.
Okay I'm going to show y'all an interesting trick to bring out highlights in your characters skin. You can also do this to give your character a 'wet skin' look.
1. First load a picture into photoshop. Preferably 1 with t lots of skin you can mess around with.
2. Add a layer over this and fill it with black.
3. Switch black layer to color dodge.
4. Using a rough grainy brush. (I used one from war esentials sized 1908 make it smaller and color it white. Set the flow at about 50%
5. Begin using the white brush on the color dodge layer. When you are done you can adjust the color dodge later transparency to increase or decrease highlights.
6. Voila. Instant highlights
7. You can see before and after in the final 2 images. Wherever I painted white on the color dodge layer (Which will be clear in photoshop), the highlighted area was lighter on the skin. This may be too much, however I emphasized it so you could see the changes.
Thats a handy trick. I am sometimes frustrated with a lack of highlights on lips. I am going to have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!
It also works on hair. I think you'll find it an easy way to add highlights to things and make them pop a bit more. Finding the right brush is key. IT needs to be grainy like the one I mentioned for skin. I think you can do other brushes for hair.
I am embarrased to say how many brushes I own.... I am sure I have something and I will experiment to see what works the best. Thanks!
Oh, now, that is super cool! I didn't know anything about doing that! Thanks for the little tutorial. I'm definitely giving this a try! :)
