Yes. ITs called Psi Dog. There is an expansion with a cannon. I haven't rendered the cannon rig, but I really like the dog! Glad you found it!  It has lots of mat zones, so he is easy to recolor.

I think I have that one, I grab a lot of bots from Rendo. That light inside the ribcage is a very nice touch!  Your last three renders are neat, that V4 outfit went on really well. How exactly are you doing that, with a product or with tweaking?

@Ice Dragon Art: Thanks for liking my stuff! I appreciate it.

@Novica. Thanks for your kind words! I really appreciate that.

I used autofit for that Sedition Soldier V4 outfit. It went on very nicely except for some crunching on the groin piece. I don't know whether I have a specific product for that, but I seem to be able to fit v4 and m4 content to Gen 3 male so probably. I spent a LONG time recoloring the whole set for iray and doing the glow on the armor for that contest in It's raining men. No one said a word about it. =-(

I like psi-dog's ribcage glow too.

@FirstBastion: I can't wait to see what your render with him.

Sometimes it can be funny what people comment on, and what gets overlooked.  Unless you told them, you did such a good job they thought that outfit came that way, lol.

There is no figuring out what gets comments and likes and what doesn't.  I do know I find just as much stuff I like in the low likes as I do in the popular stuff, perhaps even more.

I have always liked Serene's stuff because they so are well done, and not a collection of Vicky portraits.  I also like that her Characters are always the stars, instead of an industrial light and magic show with mannequins.

Edit.  Not just here.  I see today a photographer sold a studio portrait of a Potato for a little over a Million USD.

LOL. That is one expensive spud. Thanks for the kind words Teofa and Novica.

Then why am I here instead of out on the patio with my camera and a piece of broccoli...

What fun, so full of life. And Puggles! Humans even in the future will have pets--dogs especially I'm sure. I love sci-fi but in most of the books I've read and images I've seen there's no music, no pets, no games, no families, no kids. Can you really imagine a future like that? The only sci-fi author I've read that has all of those things (except maybe pets) is Orson Scott Card. Well, there are some that have kids...but...anyway....

Love your art and the dynamics of the posing and composition and angles. Terrific work.

I think that some are more technically oriented/curious and others see the art. Maybe?

Thanks Spit. I love mr. Puggles.  heart I missed out on his pose set which was vaulted before I could buy it.

In my sci-fi future there are always dogs. Sadly we've needed an upgraded dog character for DAZ Studio forever sad

Okay, here I wanted to see how many M4/V4 soldiers I could fit in this scene. One image is slightly tooned out, and I did try a darker blue-ish colored one. Let me know what you think. It is a wip.

    1. Slightly toony

    2. Blue-er

    3. Original

Are you Iraying or 3DL? If Iray, I'd turn down the Burn Highlights (Tone Mapping) so the white chest area (front dude) isn't quite as harsh/concentrated (or in 3DL, change the diffuse to a slightly darker color like blue/gray. Is there a separate material zone for that one piece of the chest? Or did you want it that bright?)  But I think I like the blue toned one better. You've got great character placement (as always!) and the props don't interfere with their faces, which is really tricky with that many people in the scene. The tension among the guys in anticipation of confrontation is excellent!

Sadly no mat zones on he armor, or I'd recolor it. It comes in black or white, and I didn't like it black since the tunnel is really dark and it just made the character fade. No way to recolor it either, since there are no material zones.. This is 3dl, and I may try a different diffuse, however, I liked the way the light lit the rest of the scene.

My favorite thread to venture to, fabulous renders yes

I highly recommend experimenting with the geometry editor to create material zones. It's not as hard as you might think.

Thank you awesomeFb that is very nice to hear. Hmmm interesting suggestion about using geometry editor. I have messed around a bit but found it to be challenging to get a clean line.

These are good though I have to admit at 16 pages I didn't look at them all. The pugs were good and that last soldier on the right with yellow glasses looks like John Wayne.

Haven't been here in a while, but your renders are looking fabulous!  Love the way you do Scifi, the  interaction within your characters is amazing, the colors, lights, all of it! Are you using Iray or 3Delight, and Studio 4.8 or 4.9?

    Hi Kharma:

Thanks for dropping by. In answer to your questions, I do render in 3delight and Iray, but primarily like 3delight. I find Iray somewhat limited and while I like it for portraits, I do not care for the look in bigger more complicated scenes. I also like the colors which can be achieved and some of the effects. I  use 4.9, although I mistakenly upgraded. I have problems with CMS needing to be restarted while using studio which frustrates me in version 4.9.

I am now using 4.8 and 4.9 Beta on my laptop with windows 7, but on my new machine with Windows 10 I decided to just go with 4.9 but am using DIM still( haven't tried connect yet). With a little help from fixmypcmike I got the program and dim installed to my E:/drive and set up to install all my products there too.  I've been lucky so far, everything is working great but I've only installed the defaults that come with the program and G3F. Iray is super fast on the new system but like molasses on the laptop, but so was 3Delight  lol.  Reinstalling is certainly a little overwhelming, but once I get some stuff installed and a theme going I'll be able to revive my Kharma's Korner studio, in the meantime I will enjoy everyone else's art laugh

I only started using Daz a year and a half ago. I was fumbling with 3DL, then embraced Iray... and now coming back to 3DL.

I'm finding with some very key items (AoA lights and Ubersurface 2) I'm making stuff that's occasionally neck and neck with Iray for realism... and can be used for wildly unrealistic stuff, too.

    I still enjoy Iray, but...

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,647

REalism has it's place but I don't find iray as effective a tool as I would like to tell the kind of artistic story I want. Plus I prefer 3delight as a base for pulling into photoshop as realistic renders are less fun to touch up and tweak. I guess it depends on your ultimate style.

Right now, iray is popular, and it is certainly easier for new people to use. But it has limitations that I find I get frustrated with.

3delight is harder to learn, but ultimately I think it is a more rewarding renderer to master, because still heads down, a good render in 3delight looks better to me than a good render in iray.

Everyone has different tastes, but ultimately, right now I choose 3delight.

I am usually an early adopter. I have a large complex categorization method to find my stuff. I don't use DAZ Connect. My upgrade was purely my error since I selected the upgrade by accident in dim, which made 4.8 work strange.

4.9 would be fine for me if CMS didn't die regularly. I have a ticket in nuts and bolts about it, but no love for me. =-/

I found 4.9 difficult to install because I want everything on E drive not on C, and DIM was very persistiant about trying to put it on C, despite my wishes.

I really hate when the machines do not bend to our wishes, I am the same way about mine too. I want it to do something a certain way and it just refuses to do what I want :D

I installed DIM first to my E drive with no issues and then set up my folders to install Studio to E also, then proceeded to install studio. My C drive is only 500GB SSD and my E is 2TB WD so I definitely wanted it all on E and the install gave me no issues, the one thing I didn't do when installing W10 is it gave an option to put the User folders on a different drive and I kinda blew by it before I realized what that meant so now I need to figure out how to move them from C to E.  I wonder if it makes a difference where Studio wants to install when you already have a previous version installed?  I of course didn't have to worry about categories as I didn't have any, but I have never used smart content hence the balking at using connect, I still want to use the content library as I have been for years.  I hope you find a solution and can get yours working the way you want it to.

I was thinking I was the only one that had that problem

I used DAZ connect to install,  but it's not working out for me,  seems to be Smart content orientated , and I guess I'm not smart enough to use Smart content, it's a pain, a lot of scrolling and searching

So I have been manually installing  a few items a day, to have my library back to what I'm used to

if someone uses Smart Content exclusively .. I think DAZ connect is the way to go

I don't even have DIM installed anymore, it wasn't  nice to me when I had just One drive and now I have 2, it won't listen period

    @Kharma

same for me, but I did manage to get folders in E, I have no idea how I did it, at the beginning DS and DIM wanted to install in C, I removed/uninstalled anything DAZ, took a break, and for some reason install finally stayed in E:, but this time I avoided installing DIM.

I have no proof  if DIM was the cause of the problem, I just know with no DIM, content is going where I want it. except that DAZ connect places everything in that cloud folder, and I cannot get my products in my library like it used to be unless I manually install

E  was configured as the the desired location in dim. Unfortunately despite this I have components of studio installed on c. I gave up fighting it but my c drive is a tiny solid state drive where I would prefer to only have essential stuff. My content is all on e.

I wish we still had the non dim installers for studio. It was easier to configure the location manually with the installers.

I have to assume I had no problem getting DIM or Studio onto E because I had no prior install of either on this machine, as it seems many who already had it installed could not install 4.9 to a different drive.  Maybe it's the insistance that you cannot have 2 versions running on the same system unless one is a beta? Hopefully in the future DAZ will rectify this and make the install process choices better for those upgrading as opposed to a new install.

DS and DIM will use the Documents folder, currently on C:, as their derfault locations. I don't have W10 installed yet but in older versions find the actual Documents or whatever folder (in the Users folder on C: since it hasn't been moved yet), right-click, select Properties and go to the Location tab to move it.

Okay here is my latest image. I wanted to try doing another 'lifting' pose, and so I had the guys group to lift that heavy cement piece there. Not an easy task. I also wanted to test out Drone Eyes.

I found the facial expressions on Sarge somewhat of a challenge. I am finding gen 3 male expressions can often be overdone and scrunch up the features more than I like.  I think I almost prefer Gen 2 expessions since they don't have that fluid scrunchy crunchy features. I was able to easily get the straining pose I was looking for on the gen 2 guys. But for Sarge it took many iterations and he still has a more sea sick quality than the 'hey I'm lifting something seriously heavy'.  Sarge's eyes also posed an issue, since they are light and did not show up as well as I Would like.

I wish the Concentrate facial pose was back for gen 3. My favorite gen 2 expression hand down, and Concentrated is not the same.
