Had a quickie with Kyle (yes.. I went there ;P ) this is the result, I'm not entirely satisfied with it but too tired to do more now. Likely to play some more tomorrow :) He's a fun one!
Kyle
"You want this cannister? Come and get it, I promise I won't hurt you... much"
OMG I almost spit out my coffee reading that comment Carola O *giggles*
But DAMNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnn he is one major hottie I must admit!!! You sure did him justice Carola!!!
Really cool render! I think he deserves more than a quickie though.... lol.
Thanks Saphire, I'm glad I made you giggle *grins* and he is a great deal of fun really :)
Hehehe very true IceDragon, he does deserve some more, but I blame being tired and such ;P going to play some more with him for sure :) Glad you liked the render
That is pretty cool, Carola- what effects did you use? Jepe's?
Thanks :) and nope, I used these ( https://www.daz3d.com/idg-iray-fx-props-and-shaders ) on a geoshell, where I had removed visiblity on all but torso, arms and hands. And in postworked I added some of Ron's Dry Ice ( https://www.daz3d.com/ron-s-dry-ice ) (on the floor, around the cannister and that flamey thing in his hand)
And while I'm here, I was trying to use a lie tattoo (not from you unfortunately, don't have yours yet) on a picture I'm making now, but it's really faded out. While it works on the character I plan to have it on, I was wondering if it's possible to make it look sharper? I remember having read that some older tattoos, both lie and on skin, comes off as faded, but I don't remember what it was that caused it or if it was a way to fix it. Do you know?
This is my tribue to Kyle .. he is defninitely going into my novel.
A lovely picture Illys :) as for displaying on the page. When you are on the page for the picture (like in the link you gave us) rightclick the picture and open in new tab. Go to the new tab, which should say something like the name on the file_full and the file extension, you copy the address to that picture and than use that to add in the image box, and moreo ften than not change the width to 800.
Though, I also see that your picture is in .png which means it is likely too big/heavy to be put into the image box. I don't remember what the filesize limit was, but I think .png are generally too big. I would suggest turning it into a .jpg in photoshop or another similar program, that way it would be smaller (especially if you also comprimizie (probably spelled that word wrong) the picture when doing so.)
@Carola O, I found it was user error. I was using the wrong link. Got it set. YAY
Chances are, the LIE wasn't applied correctly to the translucency texture. Older LIE tattoos -- either designed for 3Delight or early Iray -- didn't have to or their creators didn't know to deal with the translucency layer. Unfortunately, apart from putting the diffuse texture into translucency color (which may noticeably alter the skin color of your character), the only other thing I can think to do would be to take the translucency strength and/or color map (depending on which one your character may have) into Photoshop or a similar editor, and overlay the tattoo texture onto the translucency texture manually. And even that will probably only work easily if the tattoo texture is PNG or TIFF; with JPEG, you'll need to convert the background color to an alpha channel, however that gets handled in your graphics editor of choice.
Thanks Wwrangler, I don't know which file format it is but I'll check that and try to see what I can come up with :)
It just occurred to me that if the tattoo itself is either a PNG or TIF with a transparent background, if you're using the most recent version of Studio and you're working with Iray, you can put it in the Diffuse Overlay texture slot for the template where it would be. That's more or less what Daz did with Owen's tattoos. (... more or less.) That way, you don't have to deal with graphics editors at all.
The downside is that you can't see diffuse overlays in the workspace, so you can't tell what's going on unless you either render or use the auxiliary viewport for Iray preview.
If you're working in 3Delight, then you're probably stuck having to edit the files together.
Love this render, thank you!
Thanks for letting me know. :)
As for the tattoo, as vrangler said-it would depend on how old it is. I would check the texture folder, find the tattoo and see if it a .png file. If it is LIE it probably is. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to select the translucency layer, use the LIE editor, and add another layer and select browse to find the .png tatto and simply add it onto the translucency map. I would lower the opacity to about 80% at first. You can always go back into the LIE editor and up the layer's opacity to darken it further until you get what you want.
@DarwinsMishap, I got to playing around with other options for the Kyle character you created and found that my Bren has evolved. I do have a question about the tattoo's. They show up in my renders as more platic looking than on skin. Am I doing something wrong (as I was with the eyes)?
Plastic looking? You mean the gloss on the skin when the tats are applied? If so, that can be how black out tattoos work (in the areas where the black is thickest). Can you post a render of what you are seeing?
Here is an example of how skin can look shiny with blackout tattoos:
It will depend on the lighting, of course, but at times it can be really evident.
@DarwinsMishap, this is what I'm seeing. Comparing to the images above, it must just be my eye and lack of experience with some more extreme tattoos. I love this guy! I really do. I wondered if there was something I was doing that wasn't giving me the intended outcome.
Really nice tats there Dar, though I admit I'm more interested in seeing the other sleeve than the black out one *smiles*
And... I also finally made things work for my picture, after a lot of trial and error with translucency and such, I gave up on that and just for fun put a LIE layer of the tattoo in the Glossy Specular map.. and it WORKED *happy dance* my hawkmaster got himself his tattoo at last lol
And here's a little look at what I was working on that needed the tattoo help :) I stil lcosnider it a WIP as the idea of this pic is far from finished, and even this portrait is not really done. It only rendered to about 5% which took a little over 2 hours, so might end up having to change lighting and such. This actually started as a fun experiment of mixing together Christian and Kyle, in the end it became Christian ( 50% ), Kyle ( 40% ) and Giovanni ( 30% ) using Christian's eyes and eyebrows with Giovanni's skin.
Hawkmaster - WIP
It's getting a little hot in here...
*big smile* only a little? Just wait and see what i have in minds for this hawkmaster *smirks*
He turned out really well! Kind of an Errol Flynn vibe for me. Where did you get the hawk? :)
Thank you Odaa :) the hawk is from one of Ken's Songbird sets over at Hivewire, this one - SBRM Birds of Prey Vol 3 Mini-Set - Hawks of the U.S.
I really love the birds he make, but that is the only set I have so far :)
*snicker* We've left hot far behind
Hawkmaster is an awesome render - and it's a WIP??? My goodness, you are aiming at perfection!
I thought it might be Ken's work I have one or two SBRM packs I bought when he was still selling here. Guess I need to take a look at his newer work.
Love the Hawkmaster render- what a great combo. You did very well with that one, the lighting is spot on as well.
Thank you everyone! I truly do love that one, I even ended up putting the hawkmaster as a character preset *smiles*
@themidget Not perfection, but it is a tad too grainy and it actually only rendered 5% so I wanted to see how it turned out when I let it render full.. which actually took all night lol. Need to do some light postwork and than it should be good to go :)
The lighting is one of the desert sunsets in Terradome 3 Iray, plus a little postwork in topaz studio :)
And here is now the final version, a slight change in his eyecolor (still Christian's eyes but I added a little orange/yellow to the iris), rendered until it was finished (took whole night for some reason) so less grainy :) Christian 50%, Kyle 40% and Giovanni 30%
Hawkmaster portrait 1
That is so beautiful. It was well worth the wait!
