Your welcome Dracorn, I know it is a challenge working with little sea creatures :D
@Llynara - I love the Sheriff George riding a slug image! It will be interesting to see where you go with that one!
@dracorn - That is looking amazing! I love what you've done. Is the final image going to be a close up or are we going to get to see the full effect with their tails, too?
@mosjeschwartzman - I actually like the pop of color that the lady in red has. I especially like the way that little bit of red is reflected on the floor.
Well, I finally got inspired and I'm working on an entry. I should have it posted some time tomorrow. Everyones' images are looking good!
I for one am so looking forward to seeing what you come up with!!
I'm thinking the same thing, thanks.
OMG, dracorn, those mermaids just get more and more incredible! Wow!
Thanks for all the comments on George and the slug! Needs work, but there's time. And look what just happened to come out today http://www.daz3d.com/sf-horrible-slime-iray
I could make a big ole slime trail with that for sure! Oh what fun!
Okay, inspiration for this came from watching the newest DAZ video on Emission Materials on their YouTube channel. If anyone hasn't seen it, it is definitely worth a watch. I even learned a thing or two I didn't know. DAZ has been putting out a lot of great little mini tutorials and I highly recommend them.
Anyway, that video sparked the idea for this WIP. I still have a lot of work to do. I'm going completely artistic and not shooting for any kind of realism so we'll see how it goes. So far, the only light I have in here is an HDR sunset and her hair. Everything else is reflecting that light. I'm using Eva 7 and I was actually a little surprised that the poses that come with the hoop geared for G2F actually work with very little tweaking. I'll have to fix her hands a little especially the right one, but not bad. Anyway, I would love comments and suggestions. I do see a little postwork in the future. Hopefully, I'm up to that because my attempts in GIMP still leave a lot to be desired.
Double check with the preview lights on...the ring may be intersecting her thigh (and that would be very OUCH!).
I had to look about four, five times but I actually think it doesn't (and she'll just walk home like always)
I think it is the angle that makes it look that way because I did have to fix it a couple of times with her clothes off. But, I'll double check just in case I goofed when I load it up again here in a minute. Just got back from seeing the Jungle Book my youngest so I've been afk for quite awhile!
Everyone has been doing great work this month.
oops quoted the wrong post.
This is really amazing and original!
Thanks barbult!
Here's the next iteration: It's not truly a kaleidoscope by the math; the curvature of the mermaid's tails set the sea turtles off. Also the other objects just aren't lining up by the numbers, so I am forced to eyeball their position. Okay, so that makes it organic, does it not?
I'm looking for Sebastian singing "Under the Sea" about now.
I'm just wondering exactly where the bar is resting. I would assume that her weight would be mostly on one buttock... if it's resting on her groin it would be just as much ouch as the intersection. I could see her right hand holding the ring for more weight support, unless you want to keep the esthetics of your current pose.
The lighting is very good, as we can clearly see her black outfit against the black background, and only in shadow does the edge become blurred.
From the beginning this image gives me a syncronized swimming feel. I really enjoy the colours and the fact that you have given each mermaid her own personality.
@Saphirewilds well, I looked at it, but I'm still learning about texturing, and I'm afraid adding a trim to her dress is still a bit beyond me at this point. I can see it though...a metallic gold trim to match the axe head...kinda like what Destinysgarden was showing us a while back...
Wait! That's it! I need to go back and have a look at that again, and maybe try to find a decent pattern somewhere!
Saphire...you're a genius!!
back later...
Well, I have it situated to rest in the crotch, yes. I'm not absolutely sold that this is the best pose yet. There are others that came with the hoop. This was just the first one I liked. I thought before I made a final decision, I might actually track down and watch a couple of these type of circus acts on YouTube so I could see it in action. I, vaguely, remember seeing an act like this years ago and the pose seems accurate. I'm amazed at some of the things that seem impossible that these types of artists actually do. I'd like to find some actual reference poses so that I'm not relying solely on the poses that came with the hoop. So, this is definitely in WIP status and I'm sure there will be a lot of changes before I'm done.
Adjusted the pose on the warrior, changed the bloom filter threshold and re-balanced color in the postwork.
I like the way this is shaping up. The expressions are very good and the colors are excellent. I like the way the redhead's sword is almost edge on, but I can still see the reflection coming from it. It's giving me the feeling of a movie poster or comic book cover.
It does feel that your ambient light is a little bright, especially considering the sunset sky behind them. The archer's fair skin on her right arm is overexposed and it feels like her forearm is melding with her upper arm. I suggest you bring down the lighting somewhat and this will bring in some dramatic shadows. Balance this with the light coming from the magic circle and the glowing sphere in the mage's hand.
I would like to offer some posing advice: The three of them seem off balance to me. There are a couple of rules I use and perhaps they will be helpful to you as well.
Shoulder in line with the weight-bearing foot or knee: If you draw a line from the shoulder to either the foot or the knee, it should be vertical.
Wide Stance with weight in the middle. Look at your figures from the top down. Draw a line or use a ruler from heel to heel - the weight should be in the middle of this.
To give yourself an idea, stand in front of a mirror and try to mimic your poses. Time for selfies here!
Lastly, if the mage is moving enough to make her hair flow (or it's wind), then the scarves on Fantasia should be moving to match.
That is partially due to the bloom filter. It tends to emphasize (actually exagerate) things like a bit of a bright spot on the forearm...and push it over the edge.
I would probably adjust the exposure settings a bit before sending it off to postwork it.
I've been distracted with other things for a while but now I've caught up with this thread again and it's been very nice to see everyone's progress.
I've come a couple steps further on my own project too. Attaching a few half rendered WIPs, so they're a bit grainy. I've tried a few different image formats too, but I think I'm sticking with "golden ratio - portrait" as I originally planned. This is how far I've come for now. Obviously it's all still a WIP, especially the poses.
So, I saw this earlier and got a bit distracted with other things. @Isidorn, I was going to tell you that the pose with your male's leg looks awkward and you should fix it. However, I took a closer look at all of the images you posted and I don't think it is actually the pose so much that makes it look awkward, but the camera angle. While it isn't out of the realm of possibility that someone would sit like that with the foot above the ground, that one camera angle makes it look awkward. Yet, the large middle image (larger one) doesn't seem to have that same effect even though it is the same pose. I think the different camera angle in that large one actually makes the whole image really stand out in a good way. I like the larger image and I would consider keeping that angle if you decide to keep the pose as it is. I hope that makes sense? I don't think I'm actually explaining this very well. I like the poses and they work well together. The rock they are on seems to accentuate the air between his leg and the rock surface, though, that is more distracting in that smaller image than in the larger image. I hope that makes sense!
isidorn, is the rock actual geometry or is it part of the backdrop?
The leg problem could be in part due to how things line up in relation to a shadow catcher...and in Iray the 'floor' IS a shadow catcher. So if the rock is part of the backdrop or if it is BELOW the floor, then the shadow is going to be 'wrong' or the part may appear to float.
Thanks for the feedback! As I said, the poses in particular are still very much wip. I haven't really done anything with the male's pose yet so that's why his legs are still up in the air. Sorry about that. The rock they're on is a prop and it's actually a bit up in the air so the "floor" is way below them. I'll continue to work on the poses and camera angles tomorrow.
@isidorn I am leaning towards the portrait version. It is more intimate and makes the figures the main focus. The wider angle version is suitable for an overall impression but unless you plan on adding more to fill in the background, with creatures, people, vegetation, etc. it might not be necessary.
Adjusted the pose on the warrior, changed the archer's pose completely, reduced the ambient light.
Well Dhandle I am not sure about the Genius part ut I was looking at the render as if I were doing it and I kept comming back to the dress and how white it was and that it so needed a it of color to it. I am glad I was able to help you with this Dhandle!!!!
I am still working on my Vlad scene, it is going to be a couple more days before it is completely done! But I feel that it is going to come out to be almost right out of the pages of Dracula!!!!!! I will be posting a sample soon!!
I've run into a snag with this.
First of all, I had to let it render overnight because of the feathers in the wings. They take forever!
So...I went back and looked at it, and discovered that the clothing had a 2nd texture set with it. (It's the Angel of Light for Aiko 3) The 2nd set is gold with red trim. Perfect! I set everything up, and tried to render it, expecting great things in the morning. But when I checked it the next day, my computer had tried to do automatic updates, and rebooted right in the middle of my render!!
GRRR!!!
So...I got nothing. I hadn't saved the changes, so I have to go back and redo everything. /sigh. I will...first chance I get; honest.
Just not tonight.
"It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh!"
Been there, done that!!! Sorry to hear it happened to you, dHandle. Have fun watching the game! Go Penguins!
