    Meh, meh, meh. indecision

Was just about to give up hope when the phone started ringing - looks like this years budget is getting approval at some companies, so some hope returns.

Going to move out of the expensive place during the job search - need to make food money stretch before I end up renting my body out on the street! surprise

Lunch time - hamburger and beans!

Been back working pickups the past couple of days, bit of a shock to the system :)

any plans to release something on bandcamp meantime?

enough water to use a boogie board is a real novelty and something they might have to travel 100s of miles to do usually altho it does flood quite often there, land of drought and flooding rains and all that, iz monsoon season right now the further north you go the more wet there is :)

Nope I cannot imagine it.  I am guessing it will be more headache than it is worth.  Anyone and everyone would want to be my friend until the money is gone.

...pretty much the case.  That's why I only play the Megabucks as you can actually opt to not have your name be made public if you win.  Yeah the payouts aren't as ludicrous, but heck at my age it's still more than enough.

It doesn't bother me that people would know my name if I win.  With (now) $700 million I could hire a whole law and accountancy firm to take care of issues, and a second firm to keep an eye on the first firm. enlightened And I'm real good at saying "no" to people I really don't care about.  Let them win their own lottery. cheeky Oh, I'd set up a few Trust funds for a few people that mean something to me, but with $700 million I can hide really well from the rest.  And besides, I've lived long enough to know that yachts and mansions and jewelry and drugs and cars and art and things and fake friends and lovers in excess are not worth blowing all your money on.  A nice car, comfortable travel, good doctors, and time to figure out how to spend it all with meaning would give me pleasure.  And if that gets boring I'd spend the rest of my life figuring out how to take it with me in the most annoying way possible. devil

Flood waters aren't safe under any circumstances but water is a real novelty here especially in a long drought so....

...still sounds like a huge hedache though having to maintain a leagal wall around yourself.

Also, if you take the lump sum you only get half the advertised jackpot (before taxes). So that 700$ million would actually be around 200$ million after taxes.

For myself, 5.4$ million paid over 25 years seems so much simpler.  No investments to manage, no accountants, brokers, or lawyers to hire.   I'd still be able to take the European trip I planned (via train and ship) and build my new workstation (maybe with dual 12 core Xeons and four Pascal GPUs)

Friday, Friday.  Low on cash so moving out tomorrow to drop my burn rate WAY down.

3 calls scheduled from recruiters, had some dude call me from NYC asking if I wante to move there.. uhh, nope.  And at 8:35 in the bloody morning!  Geesh. indecision

Cutting back on my Web presence to save money, and will likely sell my Win 8.1 tablet and field recording gear as I've used neither in a very long time.

Downloading as much content as I can before I move.. gotta have things to play with then I'm not sending out resumes' or fielding phone calls!

*edit* Aaaand, 4 more resumes' sent out.  Suddenly some interesting firmware work in Austin.  Also applied for an entry-level Java developer job, it'd be a bit of a career change but I'm pretty sick and tired of the whole embedded systems thing after 20 years... indecision

*edit 2* First call over.  Full-time perm job here in Austin, working on lighting controls (heh, done that).. worth applying for, the recruiter seems to think I'd be a good fit.  This kind of thing usually takes 2-3 weeks for a hire, so I don't expect anything overnight (although expecting anything seems to be hopeless as my life appears to be crawling chaos 24/7 the past few years).  It'd be nice to get a perm job and settle down, but I'm not sure that's my fate. indecision

Prepping the Win 8.1 tablet for sale.  I figure I can get $100 for the tablet, Bluetooth keyboard, Bluetooth mouse, and Koss earbuds.  I still neeed to set up the field recorder for sale, but that's not anything I need a good Web connection for - the notebook is.  Just charging the Bluetooth keyboard, then it's ready to sell once I move.

Content still downloading.. I'll be at that all day.  Urgh. indecision

One more phone call, then I get a break until 1:30pm.  Mrbl. indecision Looking forward to a few beers, chips, and dip this evening! laugh

Windows 8.1 on our laptop and it's not really all that bad.  I set it up to always boot into desktop mode. No issues.  People bitched and moaned too much about it at first, even me.  As long as it's in desktop mode, it's just like Windows 7...to me, anyway.

So much for the Silicon Labs job, the REQUIRE aBachelors in Computer Science and a 3.5GPA *just to get your resume in the door*.  The recruiter sys they've been looking for months, with no luck. D'oh!!  Well, I  have other prospects.

Almost time for the 1:30PM call.. I just want to put on some music and drink beer.  Le sigh. indecision

*edit* Geebus, light snow and freezing temps predicted for tomorrow.. right when I'm moving! surprise This will not be fun...

*edit 2* Well, that was a short call.. they wanted a pure object-oriented expert, application level, that's not me.  Off to visit a friend now! laugh
