...ah didn't' realise you were looking for a system to support Carrara.
In that case choice of GPU is not as critical as it is with DAz Studio and Iray though still nice to have something with enough memory to can handle a "busy" viewport. If you plan to animate don't even consider a memory kit below 16 GB. I'm running with only 12 GB and have exceeded my memory limit on several occasions while rendering in Daz Studio. If you can get it, 32 GB is preferable (although you can always upgrade later) as the more physical memory, the less chance for the system to go into swap mode during the render process which can become excruciatingly slow. A good fast i7 (4.0 GHz) will help as well. For the GPU, I would say a 2 - 4 GB AMD Radeon would be sufficient (less expensive than Nvidia). If you do ever go with LuxRender, GPU rendering is supported by AMD's Open CL graphics language.
Again the Power supply is one of the most critical parts and shouldn't be scrimped on, especially if you plan to upgrade the system later. Better to have the excess overhead than to risk having your system blow up.
Unfortunately most off the shelf systems today will come with WIn 10 and a lot of useless bloatware. This is again why going ith a vendor/shop that allows for even a minimum of custom building would be the better route. Ask around as some places offer a "downgrade" (in my book, upgrade) to Win 7 Pro.
For drives, standard HDDs are pretty inexpensive these days and you can get a 2GB drive for around 50$. SSD's are fast but cost more (through prices have been steadily dropping) and I would suggest just getting say a 350 - 500 GB one for the main boot and application drive.
For cases, you want one that is roomy inside and has decent cooling. Getting a a good solid aftermarket CPU cooler would also be advised, particularly as you will be doing primarily CPU instead of GPU rendering. Sadly, the case that I normally would recommend (Antec P-193) is no longer available
...here's to hoping something comes through soon.
I've been in that boat before, not a very good ride.
Well that was enlightening!

...agh, character cross dressing complaint.
Was hoping to use Wanted DOA on the G2F of my KK character but even with the Michael 4 clone for G2M, I cannot transfer the fits cross gender as the clone only works with G2M. This is where the gender split killed Genesis' versatility. Hate it when you spend a lot of time designing a character and then can't give them the clothing they need. Feel like I'm back in the Gen3/Gen4 days again.
There is really no decent western wear for females. All of it, (including the Sharon Stone looking outfit) still bares the belly and too much cleavage. No self respecting cowgirl would dress like that.
It's less fun than I like. I have few resources available, and while there is a Plan B it's not a very pleasant one.
Moving Day! Final packing and clean-up, then I'm outta here. Should be back online this afternoon after football.
AuroFit to G2M, save as asset, AutoFit that to G2F. Or try using the Cross Figure Resource Kit on the G2M fitted version.
Last mad dash to download content before I lose the hotel's highspeed Internet.. gotta save bandwidth for emails, resume' posting, stuff like that.
It's not like I don't have gigabytes of content ALREADY, I just want to be preparedto spend some time rendering stuff in-between bursts of job search.
Ugh, time to clean myself up, get dressed, and haul out trash and recyclables. Then the 7-11 to cash in my $2 winnings for a cupof coffee..
it's been a TEA morning.
mebbe cawffee l8tr
haz to put christmas stuff away. hoover. take out trash. change dead lightbulbs. purge laundry pile.
need a nap. close my eyes, chores will disappear
Those littlw domestic tasks add up quick! It's like being eaten by ants, one bite is nothing but 1000 later you really feel it.
All packe except the lappy.. rental office opens in an hour and fifteen minutes. Will download content until the very last minute!
Slightly chilly here so it's coffee all day. $2 scratcher paid for a large 7-11 hazelnut coffee, with change back! Smells so good..
feelin for yoo, leavin your nifty place. mebbe you can go back when find some work
haz powerball tickets, no worries, i'll share
We'll see. If I can haul in a full-time position I might try for a cheap apartment, get a futon, flat-screen TV, and pretend to settle down (lol). I think I'm getting too old for all the jumping around I've had to do the past 5 years...
And thanks for the sympathy!
Ok, Visual Studio installed so I can teach myself C#/.NET/SQL, now downloading Netbeans so I can teach myself Java, Javascript, HTML5 and CSS.
I won't lack for retraining myself - I think that firmware development is dying as most chip companies and board manufacturers are handling that work and the few available positions tend to go fast.
I'm going to see if I can find a junior job in C#/.NET, or Java, or Web development, and jump specialities. It's a cut in pay but I have no debt at this point and can easily live on entry-level pay. Options, options, must expand my options!
Maybe I can get a job at Home Depot helping people pick out power tools while I take night classes.. lol..
Yea, I got a computer fix-it job! That's another $50 or so to help me through this month. Computer fix-it jobs are becoming scarce. I don't advertise anymore and I turn down jobs involving tablets and smart-phones and Windows 10. I feel like a radio repairman in 1970.
Set up my lab to do this fix-it job and turned on the music channel of my TV. Now listening to Rimsky-Korsakov's "Golden Cockerel" Hadn't heard it in a long time. Damn, some of his stuff is just so scenic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgFIQa98Znc
Another beautiful mind-scene is his "Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MAI2j3MpfI Whenever I hear this piece I remember the painting by Thomas Cole "Voyage Of Life - Youth" (see image below)
Another rarely heard mind-scape created by Rimsky-Korsakov is "Sadko" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zWKe-Jwucw Don't know what to call it, but it really sets a mood.
snacks, SNACKS!
vacced 2 rooms, washed 2 windows from inside and outside, took out trash, flattened a dozen amazon boxes, changed 3 ceiling lightbulbs to the led bulbs.
