...appropriate title considering what the Cardinals did to the Packers Sunday.
...or maybe what the Packers did to themselves as they haven't looked in sync since the bye week back in October.
I'm sure that must be a Murphy's Law of some sort.
...kind of works with Troutface's piece
..looks really good, particularly like the courtroom.
...yep the forum gremlins are back. Still subscribed to the thread but no ebot since Caturday..
...yeah, the configuration for my next system requires a lotto win.
...better head down to the corner store and get a ticket for tonight's draw.

commiserates. wantz an i7, but i5 the best i can do
My roommate is not getting the idea that I am busy on my computer trying to look up info on towers.
Too frozen. It definately would have been nice to send some of it to you guys. Put out your fires while simply leaving us with a mere snow storm.
Apparently the Governor declared Eastern NM a disaster area yesterday.
According to a volunteer from the Dora Fire Dept we nearly had a number of people die from exposure Saturday night. He said he didn't get any sleep that night and they had people sitting in stuck cars for up to 10 hours waiting for help. People were running out of gas and their cars starting to cool off. One Fire Dept's (I forgot whether it was Dora or Floyd) command pickup was stationed in the parking lot of Wells Fargo here in Portales as a communication depot.
...best to get a custom build if you can afford it. Most off the shelf systems at the big electronic stores have barely adequate power supplies (so if you are looking to upgrade the GPU you could end up blowing the system up), and are often in cases that have poor airflow and cooling.
I'd also stay away from Alienware as they were acquired by Dell and don't offer near as good a system or oprions as they used to, yet still charge a premium price.
If you have a Fry's nearby, I read in another thread that you can purchase the component's and have them put the system together for something like an extra 100$ The downside, they may not have everything you need in stock at the same time and their "in store" GPU selection is not the always best.
Make sure to get the best Nvidia GPU you can afford, 4 GB of video memory is the minimum, 6 GB is optimal for rendering with Iray for most scenes. Only those who create very demanding scenes (like myself) need the power and memory of a Titan X.

You could drop snow and ice from aircraft I guess :) Occasionally people want to park an iceberg in the bay to use the water for fire fighting, don't know how practicable it would be to tow an iceberg up the coast to a wildfire? This year there are aircraft picking water up from the ocean to drop on burning scrub, seems to work OK so far...
Tragic & so sorry to hear you are losing people, the (new!) strategy of evacuating fire grounds here seems to have worked well so far but a lot of houses were lost Christmas day, is a bit of a thing right now. We're on standby for next weekend when more northerlies are going to blow, amazingly hot winds like standing in front of a Pizza oven when the door gets opened. Everything in the sun is tinder dry. But somehow it doesn't feel like a bad year, I dunno, the week before the last big fire it was so hot and dry all the trees dropped half their leaves one morning as if it were autumn. We had some rain since then, things feel less fraught this year :)
what's the difference ?
...i7 has hyperthreading, i5 doesn't.

Is a site my friend directed me to. Don't mind the exact page it's showing, that's just what I had bookmarked at the time :P
There was another site I had bookmarked before that had a loooot more options, to the point it was confusing to navigate - plus there was no "I'm new to computers, what does all this jargon mean? Why is this piece important?" help overviews to the parts like on this site - so I picked this one over the other one.
doh, is pouring rain out
Temp (°F) 39°

but this is my i5 paycheq haz to make it to work >.<
pain in my feet bones been throbbing all night. Advil fixer upper.
Dell is trying to sell me a tower with two monitors. I am not sure if I like the specs. They are trying to sell me an i5 cpu when I have an i7 cpu currently. They are saying it is the new version while mine is the old version, or something like that. I want something better than my current one but within my budget range of course.
There are many versions of the "i5" processor. I was led to believe that i5 is a quad-core processor but there are several versions that are only a dual-core. I know because I have one. . (i5-2390T) Bought under the illusion that all i5 processors are quad. You have to check some site that lists all the i5 processor types and know the features of each and determine exactly which version is in the machine you're considering buying.

I found a free chess set model and spent a little time playing around with it hehe. The rooks were way heavy in polygons though - 107,000+ each! Sticking a Polygon Reduction object onto them reduced that by 90% and still made them look good, as well as making nagivating the viewports bearable hehe.
Quick render of it after playing around moving the pieces ^^
Tuesday, 42F, going to MAYBE hit 55F. Thinking of spicy Chinee for lunch, if I get the courage to go outside.
Will make final bank run tomorrow, it's supposed to get into the mid-60Fs, a far more acceptable temp for running errands.
A Xeon?
I guess I read the above conversations about processors and started writing... its not to anyone in particular... I guess... I didn't have my coffee yet and it was like 6:30 AM... I guess I put down the iPad and never hit "Post Comment"
The whole thing with the i5 and i7 processors having very different specs between the versions was a huge pain to me... A few months back I finally bought a new computer and the worst part of the purchasing process is finding the actual specs for the unit you are looking at. It was very annoying because many sellers leave out so much vital info... Like LG said, not all i5 and i7 processors are the same and what I kept coming across was store selling machines with processors, two or three versions old, as brand new... One of the big tricks to make people get all excited over a unit is to offer a bigger hard drive... It was like almost every time I saw a large capacity HD, the processor were older, it's not a rule but overly common... the moment I saw a good price I'd start checking and cross referencing and more often than not find the processor was versions behind. After a while, I gravitated towards Dell because their specs were easier to get a hold of... It was easier to check a model number from a vendor and find out the specs for that models setup... Dell itself is terrible has terrible sales, but I think that's true of any manufacturer... Going to a brand's store makes you wonder why anyone would do that... Nothing is close to reasonable priced, I really think only rich people with no time waste shop at those... Or possibly folks who are shopping for their business... Anyway, that's irrelevant, eventually I came across some site that had a really well laid out cross reference chart for processors... Wikipedia has an okay one, but this was very easy to use... I eventually bought a Dell XPS8700 (I think that's the model, I'm not near it now), from Costco... Even though it's Costco, they had a very thorough spec chart and the sale price was good... About $350 below any price I could find for that exact same setup... The OS was Windows 7 pro (that actually was a bonus to me) and the HD was only 1 TB, but a parakeet can change a HD (well, the new parakeet friendly HDs)... Overall, my point is the actual model number is the most important thing to find out, because for example XPS 8700 means nothing... It's like "Ford F-150" or "Honda Civic"... What year? What engine? What interior package?... Many manufactures will have an Ultimo 37000, UberCore XZP200 or CompuTron 3Z... But if you can find the actual model number for the unit on sale, like say UCXZP200-B10005D, you'll find out if that UberCore XZP200 is worth it's price or two years old.

how many cores in a Xeon? does it need special OS version to recognize the cores?
