I stand corrected, I did find some 8k normal maps.
I've been using Studio since 2014, so I've been here for a few figure upgrades.
Others like me and some that have been here longer have seen this all before.
The new characters usually are better.Yes, there are things to fix with the new G9 characters. Nobody has it perfect.
G9 has better backwards compatibility than when we upgrade from G2 to G3/V7.
---
Just so you know. I don't like any of the new characters so far either.
I don't like the way the female genitalia deforms when the character is posed. ( yes I used to adjustment sliders, but they have no affect on that body region.)
I don't like the "beer belly" they all have. I'm looking for the toned "bikini bridge" tummy.
I don't like the masculine female faces.
I don't like the belly button. It looks like someone push a finger into a lump of clay.
I don't like that makeup is now LIE overlay only, or painted on to the texture maps. Lot's of issues with this, and isn't easy to work with.
There's a couple other things I'm not sure if I like or not at this point.Like HD only nipple morphs.
I do like V9 HD skins. They are the best I've seen or have been able to work with on any Daz character.
I will buy G9/V9 characters when someone makes one I find attractive or interesting, but so far that hasn't happened.
The skin detail, maps, which are optional normals that can be added on top of the main normals, are the only 8K maps.
So far the only character I've seen that I thought was up to par with their G8/8.1 content is bluejaunte's character. The others are, IMVHO, awful so far - other than the DO's Mike and Vicky. I bought the Bachelor and Bachelorette Mega Bundle, but not for the characters, which I think are terrible and I'll never use them. I apologize to the PA's, but I can't help how I feel about them. In my opinion (and it's just that, so take with a grain of salt...lol), I made better faces with a few small custom morphs and the G9 morph packages.
The last few generations haven't really bring anything new to base figure, and just made it more resource heavy to render. Even jump from G3 to G8 is questionable, since the only new thing we got was HD expressions, and those could have been made for G3 also. I'm sure that if person squints their eyes, wind is blowing from the east and it's full tide, G9 figure might look better than G3/G8 in certain lightset, but in reality very few could make a difference between G8 and G9 if they'd have to make a guess which one is which from just a rendered image made by a good artist.
That being said, I appreciate if some PAs still provide content for G8.X, but if they don't, no hard feelings. We all do what we feel is right for us. I can still buy stonemason sets and stuff like that from Daz store, but I have to move my business to that other store for clothing and characters.
not to repeat myself again, but i have now returned all products I've purchased for G9. Not going to get caught in the buy everything again path. Its not easy though when you always see the new and shiney. Will power is not my friend.
Hoping things will improve over time, but its time for me to use the ton of products I've already purchased. I'm not sure how anyone can ever render all the stuff we buy here. Anyway, discuss on but I'm going to bow out of this thread now. Enjoy your ride on the G9 train.
Excatly. I was recently asked to render some images for a project that is not my usual subject matter - sci-fi, gaming character type renders. I had forgotten how much of that stuff I had collected for G8 but never gets rendered. I tend to buy things when they are offered at huge discounts just in case ... well, that just-in-case finally happened and I was able to produce some nice images. That all reminds me that I have enough to keep me going for a long time - until we get something a little more revolutionary that G9, at least.
This is the result of releasing a new generation... that doesn't actually offer anything new. It's clear no effort was spared to make V9 a standout character... but with the same effort, she could have been an 8.1 characters. (Mike's nothing special in my eyes, he's on par with the last few 8.1 DOs... many of which I like much better.)
The G9 base however will not magically improve PAs skill overnight, just by being released. They have to put in the same effort that was put into V9 to get something comparable... which again, could have been done with 8 or 8.1. On the contrary, it makes things harder at first until they familiarize with the new mesh and UVs.
This, and I've only seen on set of G9 characters that's made me go "Oooh. I really want that!"(Toon Heroes)
I think V9, M9, and the G9 base exceed Blaujaunte's G9 character. Not that his is bad, but I think the DAZ Originals have lapped him. That's what you'd expect since they developed G9 specifically to be more realistic that all that was available in the DAZ 3D world up to the G9 release.
I am starting to lean into the "What's can this do for my workflaw that Genesis 8 cant?" camp. Observing a lot of "This really isn't a marked improvement over what I'm doing with G8!" comments, from people who plunked down money on G9 stuff already.
All they said was that the new products let them reuse more of their older stuff with the new figure. I can't figure out why you would respond like this to such a harmless post, unless you read it as them saying they had waited for G9 to render their content?
I have so much content that I have yet to use, I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to buying 3D content. With everything I have right now, I think I can put purchasing anything G9 on hold for quite a while.
I agree, and I would add that Stella HD (bluejaunte's G9 character)---though up to par with his G8/8.1 content---offered no noticeable G9 advance in quality or features. I'm not even downloading the B&BMB characters. Here's hoping Daz keeps its Core Figure quality as high as V9 on G9 rather than the regular lapses in quality of G8/8.1 Core Figures.
i think the advances will be easier to appreciate from the perspective of a creator and then to narrow that down still further the creators of monsters and creatures, also the customers of male content may benefit too in terms of the non gender specific products...
But what discernable advancements or benefits can we expect from the creators of female content?... for starters they don't seem to be putting much effort into the eyes and to be honest i don't blame them...the selections that come with the starter/character essentials are really good and easy to pop into any character (and i think that will stay the same for both PA and core characters for a good while to come). Also we are told that the expressions are better but that is probably more of an opinion than anything else.
Bluejaunte did say early on that the new generation wouldn't suddenly make them any better and not to expect it to.
A Creature Creator bundle would go a long way in getting me on board. That was one of my favorite non-anime/toon things for Genesis 1. A one stop shop to make all kinds of mythical beastfolk. Vampires. werewolves, goblins, trolls, shreks, zombies, etc. Now I understand why that's fallen out of favor: Its not as profitable as selling each of those things piece meal, this is a business after all, but a man can dream.
I just came here to chew bubblegum.
that's okay.. but don't start kicking anything. Especially no donkeys.
Sure. But how about a Piñata. I heard mexican vikings invented the donkey Piñata. It was splendid.
They could add subtle variatons in realistic iris patterns and colors as they are different between each person. The could add things to sclera like bloodshootness from being drunk, a cold, allergies, crying, and such things. They could add sclera that look like they've just had Visine eye drops added (they'll appear whiter and brighter because they fluoresce - although I think DAZ has that one already). They could do some research to do something unusual.
To use DAZ's great G9 base materials as an excuse to slack is a good way to loose sales. The PAs should step up their games to differentiate and improve what they offer to customers to make it worthwhile that we spend more money.
Yes, but it wasn't called Piñata then... They called it Olafr and instead of hitting something from a branch with sticks, they used the oars to try to hit the Olafr who ran on a circular patch of grass until he was hit often enough to spill the contents of his stomach. Only when many years had passed the festivity was changed to be done for kiddies, and slightly less bloody than the original one...
I won't believe your stamens until I have rendered visual proof. They did say genisis 9 could be made into anything. Where's the g9 piñata? How long til April?
Well, this sale just killed G9 for me. I purchased so much new G8/8.1 stuff at great prices that I don't see myself trying to struggle through making G9 look decent with all the issues it has with facial surfaces, navels and bends. I got Cayman's texture converter and will get a pose converter when on a good sale but just can't see myself buying much more. I have the morphs, some small intro bundles with a few hairs and clothes, but really doubt I'll buy much more.
Through the sale I discovered a bunch of great G8/1 stuff I missed or put in my wishlist and scooped them up at great prices. I think I now own every Mousso character ever made lol. I really don't see a need for G9. I even have those trans morphs and UV swap so I can already make females male and vice versa and auto fit clones for clothes. I often put male fantasy clothes on G8 F already. I wish they had just given us new eyes for G8.
I saw some complicated ways we can get G9 eyes to work on G8 but I really hope a PA comes up with a one click solution. Literally the only thing I like about G9 is the eyes. Victoria 9 is great but like V7 is so recognizable that it's basically unusable commercially unless dialed in at the smallest increments. I wish they had used that morph and skin on G8.1, called it the new Stephanie 8.1 or something and given us new eyes for G8/G8.1
Josie no longer labeled as "Teen," but still has V4 skin. MW Elisabeth, however, has crossed the valley to at least the foothills where V9 landed. I wonder if the extra polygons allow good sculptors to break the surly bonds of Genesis sameness, but average sculptors are left earthbound.
Don't usually get a lot of females, but Elisabeth is a strong contender ;). The Thorne character has had the same face since at least 2000. I can't bear another ;).
...well over successive generations Aiko changed from being a darling little Anime character to pretty much a more "occidental" appearance.
The A8 promo reminds me somewhat of Mary Ann from the old Gilligans Island television programme.
