Yes, if you open a ticket they can check the offer is working as intended, fix it if not, and give you an answer in any event.

They did and it was fixed.  Now if the PA can just get Ghost lights 2 done.  I have a bunch of sets lit with the Ghost lights 2 light fixtures and need to update them. laugh

Got it! Glad it is working for others too.

The Help Desk manually fixed up my order... and I was told to let others know that the discount was intended to still be available for those with the older product.

Can we get clarity on which older product(s) exactly qualify?

Iray Ghost Light Kit (SKU: 36389) qualifies for Iray Ghost Light Kit One (SKU: 85078).  Eventually, replacements for Ghost Light Kits 2 & 3 will also be made available with qualifying discounts for existing customers once they are released.

  • K.A when do you plan to update Iray Camera Light? Because it still doesn't work with daz 4.20. You updated the ghost lights, but you forgot Iray Camera Light.

I hope it will be updated soon.

I'd also like to know about the Camera Light, is there an update for the ghost lights settings coming? Thanks and cheers!

Just my two cents: I'd strongly consider releasing a new version for 4.20+ and leave the orginal product as is for legacy versions of Daz Studio. Many users continue to use them, and updating the product would break it for those. Better to make a clean cut and have both options available, like you suggested with a generous discount for current owners. Another option would be to have 4.20+ and 4.16< versions in the same product, but that would make it a bit cluttered and might make for confusing user experience.

I'm following along with this thread and i know things are getting a bit heated. I think Jay sums up my feelings on the issue though. The truth is that i made the original ghost light kit very early on in my daz career, and these days i wince every time i see it because i know i could have made it much larger, much more comprehensive and of significantly more value to the end user. If i'd have known it would be so deeply embedded in peoples work flows, i would have invested more time in it. Now that a lot of new users are getting directed towards IGLK, i'd like to make it as best as i possibly can.

I know i can't please everybody, and i respect all of your input on the issue. I probably would have gone a different way if i hadn't put up this thread. I'm going to leave the legacy products untouched in peoples libraries, so you can still use older builds without issue. I will release an updated version at a significant discount to legacy users. It won't be a simple port of the old set either, for a couple of dollars you'll have access to a wider range of lights, utilities and helpers to make your lighting setup more efficient.

Even though some of you may disagree with my decision, I'm going to suffer paralysis by analysis if I don't make a move soon. I'll keep everyone up to date with the methods i'm using so you can mirror them in your own scenes should you wish. Right now I think i'm going to go for a mixture of primary ray culling along with the old low-cutout method for the legacy sets. This should give the best of both worlds and limit noise/fireflies.

Anyway, thanks everybody! I'll keep checking in.

Iray Ghost Light Prop Kit is now released and appears to be similar to Ghost Light Kit 2. Should those of us who own Ghost Light Kit 2 receive an extra discount?

Not necessarily. I was asking if there should be in light of Kindrad Arts' earlier post.

Ok, I'm glad I asked. I don't need the product, but it would be nice to have.

Did anyone ask Daz support if there's supposed to be a discount on Iray Ghost Light Prop Kit for those who have Iray Ghost Light Kit 2 in their library?

Still carts at normal price for me, so I'm curious whether it's discounted for anyone else, and if not, whether a discount is in the works.

somehow the way things are going around here these days I doubt it, it looks to be different enough from the Kit 2 to claim it is a totally different product

  • I can't speak for anyone else, but as a Ghost Light 3 user I'd be perfectly happy with a Ghost Light Kit One discount so I can move on. We're 7 months into the Nvidia/Daz changes to mesh lights and I'm missing my Ghost Lights - such a useful product.

Any possibility of expanding the discount to include 2 & 3 users?

My Iray Ghost Light Kit didn't want to work like I'm used to
Fortunately, I first searched here in the forum and found this thread.
Many thanks @ KindredArts for the generous update. yes

I got it without any problems for $ 2

We're you ever able to get a discount on the new Prop Kit. I own the old 1 and 2 but only able to get the discount on the new "1"

If its the new Prop Kit you're thinking of, then it does at least run on my Macintosh in version 4.21.0.5.

Ghost Light Kit One–the newest version–works with 4.21. I just used it. (PC)

I have that newer version but that's not what I'm asking. I'm simply asking if the product I linked was a release after the change to Iray and works with Daz 4.21, or it's an older KA product that won't work anymore with newer Iray.

  • If it ain't broke don't fix it.

The Readme states that it was released on 2022-08-15. http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/86954/start

So its a very new set.

Great, thanks, I should have checked the docs, I wish Daz would have a link from the product pages to the docs but I know how marketing loves to obfuscate details.

It was, in nVidia's view, broke and that is why they fixed it.

It appears that NVIDIA may have changed their mind and released *another* fix (which is currently in the private build channel of Daz Studio) that may restore the rest of the old functionality for Ghost Lights. The current version of ghost lights cause unwanted reflections. I presume this new version offers the option of suppressing that.

If you install the Daz Deals extension for your web browser, you'll get a link from the product pages to the docs, and other cool features like links to artwork in the Gallery that used the product. Only works for browsers on your computer, not mobile.

Actually it will also work with the Kiwi browser on Android devices including mobile phones.

Yeah I'm aware of Daz Deals having link to docs, I used to use the plugin but disabled it awhile ago. Thanks though.
  • So, should the old Iray Ghost Light Kits work as intended again?
