I'm glad some people are getting the discount but I remain puzzled (and discount-free - as I only owned old set 3)
What exactly was the difference between old sets 1,2 and 3?  Were they substantially different i.e. more than sequential improvements?  The key features that I seem to have in old set 3 seem to be in this new set ONE but I'm not entitled to the discount.
It seems that I will have to purchase the new set at fullish price to simply replicate what I've already bought.

My understanding is that there will be an update to all 3, so if you own "old" 3 then you should get a discount offer when "new" 3 comes out.

Yes, that's what has been said, I think. But what is the difference between old 1,2 & 3?

The basic methods used were the same but they had different parts and presets.

  • Just bought the new version for $2 so all sorted. Nice one Kindred Arts

IGLK 1 is the basic ghost light set. IGLK 2 is a prop focused set with modelled lights that have ghost lights added. IGLK 3 was volumetric ghost lights, which was done with 2D cards, but the newer iteration will use VDBs. The new series will hopefully look more diverse than the previous one.

The discount for owners of the original Ghost Lights set 1 should be working again now.

Not for me. It's not a problem for me because I bought the new set yesterday at the discounted price; but I'm pointing it out because there may be some others who own the original ghost lights and still are not getting the discount

Not sure if this is what's happening here, but sometimes discounts can only be applied once, so trying to "rebuy" an item won't show extra discounts. It's worth people double checking, but I'm seeing the discounted price in my cart.

Maybe. Just curious could somebody else who bought the new ghostlight kit with the discount please test this by putting it in their cart to see if the dicsount is again applying ?

Got it for the special discount at $2.00, adding it again shows $13.97 (regular 30% off).

It doesn't work "out of the box", but you only have to reduce Luminance and Luminous Efficacity and it works perfectly.

Yes, you only have to change these two parameters until you find the good setting.

    Here is another exemple :

Thanks for the examples. Now, if I buy the new set, will the old set still remain in my Content? Do I have to rename the old set or something? (Probably still going to use 4.16.0.3 for a bit, due to other problems I've been reading about.)

The old set will remain and you do not have to rename it. The names are already slightly different.

Thanks NorthOf45. It looks like AlmightyQuest's theory is correct.

  • Discount worked for me.  I never saw a purple banner either, the first I heard about what was going on was coming to the forum

My biggest problem here is the lighting is not working that I just bought. I have the latest version of Daz Studio and I don't understand why this is not working properly.

I'm really glad to hear this because I got the second and third kits, but I never got the first one, and this time around it looks like it had a few more things than the original that makes me regret not getting it at the time. Still, speaking of ghost lights, any chance you'll also do an updated version of the "Iray Light Probe Kit?" It seems to have vanished from the store, so I guess it's because you're taking it into account as another ghost light product that no longer works, but I don't know what your plans for it are.

The new kit, in Daz Studio 4.20.0.2?

The new Iray Ghost Light Kit One is working well for me in DS 4.20.0.8 Public Beta. I only wish there were a preset to return the light color to neutral after experimenting with the color presets that are supplied. I have to reset it by going into the Surfaces pane and changing the emission light color. I'll just save my own preset from the original state of the light when it is first loaded, so I can apply that preset later. Perhaps the addition of a neutral preset could be a suggestion for future packs or updates.

Thanks for the incredible discount on the new product, especially when the old one stopped working through no fault of yours! You know how to build customer loyalty and goodwill.

I bought mine the day it came available on the store, and only got the big discount banner after I had already bought it and checked out.

I'm not TOO concerned (I just got paid that day), but I admit it was a little weird.

I didn't get a banner and I can't get the discount on the new product, but I only own IRAY Light Probe Kit... does this mean I don't qualify?

My understanding is that now, IRAY Light Probe Kit won't be updated after all? That's a bit of a bummer...

Or will there be an updated equivalent product for which I will get a discount?

Is there an easy way to update the old product manually, like "multiply lumen by factor X, opacity by factor zero-point-Y"?

I own kit 3, which doesn't work. Can somebody clarify this please:

    • Does the new kit offer what was in kit 3?
    • Will there be a kit 3, and if so, will it offer at least what I have in the broken kit 3?
    • What discounts are being offered?

KindredArts has stated in this thread that there will be an updated kit 3 that will use real volumes (vdb files) rather than the current cards and be offered with an introductory discount similar to what the buyers of kit 1 are getting, so it should cost around $2, not for the same functionalities in the old product, but for improved ones. It is a very generous offer on their part.

Thank you. That sounds very generous to me too. Let's not forget, this will have affected them most of all.

@KindredArts:  Do you also plan to replace the Iray Light Probe Kit?  It has been my go-to interior light tool since it was released and I have four years of scenes that are no longer happy.

Hey gang, i hope everyone is happy with the new set. I know i can't please everyone all the time but i think this was the best way to do it given all the moving parts. Just to clear things up, if you had the orginal iray ghost light kit you should be given a 90% discount for iray ghost light kit one that released today. You will also recieve a discount for follow up replacement products, so if you own iray ghost light kit 2, you will recieve a discount for the upcoming replacement et

@KindredArts: Will this new set work on version 4.16.03. of DAZ Studio, or is it intended only for vesion 4.20 and up?

It doesn't work "out of the box", but you only have to reduce Luminance and Luminous Efficacity and it works perfectly

Well, I bought it, but I don't see where these controls would be: Luminance and Luminous Efficacity. Is it supposed to be in the Parameters Tab? (Again, I'm on 4.16.0.3.)

OK, I found it. It's in the Surfaces Tab. Thanks for the tips about adjustment so that it will work in DS 4.16.0.3.

When the Ghost Light Kit Number 2 comes out, hopefully somewill note if it will work in DS 4.16.0.3 with the same adjustments that make Kit 1 work.

Also, regarding Filament, do Ghost Lights work with a Filament render? (Filament is not yet working on the Mac platform.)

Far as I understand it, Filament doesn't support ghostlights.  Or any kind of emissive-based lights, come to that.  You have to use pointlights and spotlights like in old 3DLight.

Ah, good to know. Well, the new Ghost Lights are working very fine in DAZ Studio 4.16.0.3, with the two slight adjustments mentioned above.
