...well just made it getting my second RRRR submission in...

...with about two minutes to spare.

Being sick all week made it hard to focus on just about everything until the inspiration hit while in the shower ysterday. So for the last day and a half been furiously working to get it done and submitted in time. Just before starting the render, I suddenly realised I needed a few more lights so several characters were not all in shadow. The tricky one was a character playing a video game in a darkened corner of the set. Needed to get a glow from the console's display on his s face which required a number of quick spot renders to make sure the positioning of the light was correct.

Finally saved, closed the app to clear all the memory buffers, reopened the scene, and launched the render (which had to go through a lengthy optimisation pass first) only to remember that I forgot to turn all the smoothing back on so the clothes would fit properly. Killed the render applied the smoothing, saved and launched it again.

That was at 10:22PM (11:22 Daz Time).

I was beginning to feel like the character Ted Striker in the scene from Airplane where he was literally gushing with sweat. Kept watching both the progress monitor and clock on the screen, feeling it would not make it because the scene had of a lot of reflection, something like 15 lights, as well as nine characters.Surprisingly it took only 26 minutes, leaving me ten minutes to do some quick postwork and add my sig and submit. Already had Gimp open with the signature layer set up and the submission post entered on the forum awaiting the attachment.

Then came the scare as I looked at the time stamp of the post and it read 11:58pm, not 10:58pm (which would have meant the submission was an hour late according to "official" Daz Time). After all that work and pushing to get it done in time, I didn't need to see that. Apparently it turns out the forum software is out of sync by an extra hour for some reason as I discovered in another thread.

I like that 2 of them are playing Foosball. I modeled a table years ago. I used to play and drink every Friday night with a late buddy of mine. Good memories. Love your render.

tsk, my passport is expired.

need to do another major closet clearing, get rid of all the stuff i won't move with me next move. no car to bring stuff to the goodwill. >.<

i tried to give my drum set to my youngest cousin, her mommy said, 'dear god no'. lol

I can understand the empty Holidays (sigh). Daddy's passed on, Momma's in the nursing home with Alzheimers, my Brother's in Middle Tennesse (double sigh).
I have a heart and head full of the most wonderful memories, though.
The smell of a real Christmas tree.
I used to get up at 5 am and plug in the tree lights and sit quietly on the couch watching the lights blink on and off, waiting for everyone else to get up. So excited. :)

Yes, outsiders coming to Texas need a passport.

Yes, outsiders coming to Texas need a passport.

We have a toll bridge connecting England to Wales across the Severn Estuary. One person did manage to persuade some visitors that they need to show their passports at the check-in desk, and the guy in the booth went along with the joke and mimed stamping their passports before handing them back and letting them into Wales.

PS they have to pay to get into Wales, we let them leave for free.

lol Oklahoma has a toll to enter from Texas then we get back in free. I would gladly pay to get back into Texas after being in Oklahoma.

complaint: every ginger cookie recipe has molasses.
what can i substitute for molasses? iz liquidy. can't recall ever seeing ginger shnappes.

I think molasses is an important part of the recipe. Do you have something against it? It probably doesn't use a whole lot of it.

Dana

not a fan of the molasses. needs like 5 glasses of milk to wash down the heavyness of it.

Well, it's not exactly the same when it's in a cookie recipe. If you've had ginger cookies and liked them, then you don't have a problem with it. Just follow the recipe. It's not like you'll be dipping the spoon in the jar and just eating it directly. I do love to do that, though. Haven't in a long time.

Complaint: I'm still nervous about installing the new Daz (though I'm really happy that I got in on the 'get Daz deluxe for free sale.) and the DIM. I guess my old computer paranoia is catching up with me. I can have all the security, firewalls, and virus scanners in the world and installing stuff still makes me nervous.

Another Complaint: So many free firewalls are so bloated and full of crap, it almost makes me want to go back to just windows fire wall. Might not be the best but it wont be begging me to buy the retail version all the time. >_<

...I've had a paid for one for a while (backed up by a few other malware/adware utilities), and still am always cautious. Firewalls are only as good how soon security updates are made available by their providers after new malware hits the Net.

The best firewalls are the hardware ones that they put in routers.

...thanks for the comments on the submission everyone. At least that gallery is open to all to view.

While both were a lot of work it was also fun to work up the story behind and see the end results. As I mentioned on the Jack Tomalin thread, he's probably not going to like what I keep doing to his sets. Two were turned into an interstellar diner while the other one into a pub.

...very nice wok there, down to the quarters queued up for the next games.

When I was searching for pub related items I came across the foos table .obj freebie and the cool futuristic looking pub table/chair sets.

The two video games were also .obj freebies. Finding one of them a Space Invaders game was just too perfect.

...yeah for me the whole job thing made it a bit of a downer this year.

Save for a federal job which I received an email last week notifying me that I passed the first screening for a clerk position, nothing.

Not sure what will happen when the UC runs out as the end of the year ends the extension programme as well. With my arthritis I really cannot do a lot of very physical labour (which is all there really seems to be out there) particularly during winter when it is at its worst.

Also don't want to go back to spending more than half as much time as I'd be on the job, commuting. It would be back to having no life again other than the job.
