https://www.daz3d.com/penny-8 I also used the https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-audacious-outfit-textures for the dress.

One of the few times I don't save a project file and Daz crashed on me after almost 9 hours on this image that I started over night. Lucky for me before I started daz again. I looked in my C:\Users\MyFolder\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp\render and found the image. If this happens to you check that folder for an image named similr to r.png etc. You can copy it to another folder then start daz. So, here is that saved image. Opend in photoshop and saved as *.jpg. Zooming in you can see tonsils. :-)

What a lovely render of Penny 8!

Also thank you for the side note of where you found your "lost" render. I had no idea that you could recover a render in the temp folder. Studio crashed close to the completion of a render yesterday evening and I was resigned to the idea of rerendering the image. But I found it! Thanks to you! smiley

    Trish

    Thank you Stormlyght

This came up in the "Why has Studio Started Crashing So Often" thread, and @Taoz posted a script that will automatically save the r.png to a backup folder, if there is one, and then start Daz Studio. It's for Windows and does require Net 4.0 is installed. You can find the script here, if you're interested.

It seems like a no-brainer, to me, something like that should be built into DS

I agree would be nice two have builit an auto save feature and on app crash an auto copy or a versioning of the image. And, thanks for the tip. :-)

    You're welcome.

When Daz Studio crashes, there is frequently no more code processing to "auto copy" the image. Less than half of the crashes I experience result in a crash report. But a feature to automatically save at startup any r.png file from the temp folder into a folder you specify in the options is a must-have, IMO, considering how prone the software is to crashing. Super Save will give you the incremental and autosave functions. Unless Daz buys the product from the vendor, I don't see them building this funtionality into the program.

Cayley Character and Hair (Gen8F)      Cayley Clothing and Accessories (Gen8F)     Classic Bob Hair (Gen3/8Fs)

Although Classic Bob Hair is shown out of the box, see the promos for the varying lengths and fun you can have with the hair. Cayley is a cutie.

Ravyn Character/Hair (Gen8F)  Used Character Only     dForce Gored Dress (Gen3/8F)        Marigold Hair/OOT Hairblending

Ravyn is older than Cayley. Even in the promos, I wasn't sure I like the deeper hallows under the eye. The second one will show you that you have to watch shadows with this gal, or she looks more aged than IMO she should be.

The dForce Gored Dress has really nice material zones, even the trim around the chest insert is separate, and there's trim around the collar too.

Marigold Hair has a lot of sections to bend for the pigtails, should you need to do that. All I had to do was the front/back swinging and it aligned along her back.

Oh I really wish I'd checked out during that Flash Sale the other day - I had Marigold and the Classic Bob in my cart, went to watch a TV show with my other half, forgot and missed the sale. They look really nice there, Novica.

I did cave in and buy those ParrotDolphin shader presets though (I find shader sets so hard to pass by). So here are a few renders I did this afternoon.

First up is Ollie trying to decide which club to hit tonight. He's wearing the House Brownie outfit and Georgie Hair. I used some of the full presets in the Pd Two Tone Shader Preset set for his clothing and DIY two-tones on his hair (as suggested in the User Guide that comes with it).

Second is Young Minto in School Sports clothing retextured with the PD Two-Tones.

Third is LY Sorrell with Wild Wind Hair and dForce Eastern Nuance retextured with PD Two-Tones done DIY again.

Finally Anna and Awan with in Ochre City (with Iray AddOn) - she's wearing the dress and sandals of the Egyptian Mega Bundle and he's wearing the Ice Bandit outfit with Arabian Prince slippers, all retextured with PD Two-Tones.

Version 4.10.0.123? I'm using the Beta, same version. Most of the time, if DS crashes for me, I know what I did to cause it.  But memory issues are a real problem, and I have those with 4.9 as well. Perhaps I don't run into the problem as often as you because I upgraded my memory after Catalyzer was released. Catalyzer crashed DS consistently until I upped the RAM from 32GB to 64GB.

That's not to say I think Daz doesn't need to worry about it. They absolutely do. Free or not, they will make more money if the program works as it should. We are all more likely to cut back on spending as we fight with the program. Who needs more content, if we can't get the program to work with the content we have? (Rhetorical question.)

I hope you've been saving often.

    Hugz.

I don’t think this version handles memory allocation well and I also suspect we are getting hit with larger and larger textures for items we pick up in the store. Gigantic textures for eyelashes for example.  I find images which use hdri are more likely to crash in generAl. I’ve even been think of going back to 3delight because Iray seems to  really be chunking lately. There is nothing more disheartening than to set some renders to go while you are at work to find Iray has hung on a simple picture with hardly anything happening in it.

yes I also have plenty of memory but it seems Iray doesn’t access it and crashes. I’m not sure why.

This is part of my issues.  I have a real time display that shows how much of the cpu and gpu is being used.  Daz crashes consistently when it it switched from one to the other when it needs to grab more memory.  Something is definitely up.  I get crashes for scenes that have almost nothing in them that are older content as well.

So, I've been complaining about how the neighborhoods in DAZ all have a particular East Coast vibe to them. They're all ranch homes and split levels with wood siding and no privacy fences and lots of forest background... and South West US architecture is virtually non-existant.

It seems like the PAs are listening.

Dreamlight... who has a super hard-sell mail list but does offer great deals and has a bunch of incredible tutotrials and light sets for Stonemason sets...

Recently released Cottage House, which they promote as:

A suburban dream - Host an outdoor party or enjoy the beautiful vistas and Mexican inspired architecture. This beautiful and serene scene, of an exterior cottage house, complete with palm trees and 360-degree scenery, will instantly transform your renders with a feeling of freedom and timeless beauty with a modern touch...

Is a pretty accurate description of what you get.

It really seems like it might be Florida, not Arizona or Southern Califonia... but with some kitbashing, it is fairly flexible. It loads a preset suburab block with one main house and several instances. I added the cinderblock Arizona fence using instances (and Instances Plus) to make the fences.

One thing that bugs me about DAZ is that all the pools are square. I'm not sure why no one does a kidney shaped California style pool with rounded edges... but I think the one I used is a sometimes Freebie from Inlite studios. The only probley with it is that it is at least 11 feet deep and has no transition. I feel like DAZ PAs only are familiar with above ground pools. This isn't how an inground looks. They got so many things right, like the swim up bar, but the drop off is huge and the only reason there are raised hot tubs is to do a water feature with a spillway into the pool. Anyhow... minor quibbles aside...

Dreamlite's set is perfect, with some kit bashing, for making a Southern Californian or Arizonian master planned community. The back yard is wrong, but a little creative kit-bashing can fix that.

I got a good deal on it. I'm really happy with what it can do - but be prepared to do some afterwork to make it your South West dream destination. If you're in florida, add some aligators and a canal and you're in business.

The house is too big for the West Coast. This is a 1.5-3 million dollar home. If they had cut it in half, it is a typical, $400k upper middle class home. I wish there was more of that available for DAZ. This house is huge, by West Coast standards.

Shacks go for about 400.00 and they are snapped up quickly.  This looks more like a hotel than a home to me. I'm a native Californian.

P3D  Patricia (Victoria 7)        Lady Darkness Hair          Keres Outfit (Gen3F)      Sexy Skinz- Lace Bodysuits (Gen3F)     Sparkles for Studio

Wanted to show Lady Darkness Hair (not Iray) with Iray Uber Shader then Slosh's UHT shader, and also increasing the Opacity due to thin transparency for the ponytail. If your hair is too thin, undo the limits in Surface pane and increase the Opacity.

If you like the Keres Outfit but not the skimpy, this shows the Lace Bodysuit underneath. Also used the Sexy Skinz Gloves.

For the headband of the hair, I used the Sparkes for Studio shaders, and also for the ankle pieces and the pointy horn looking things on the outfit.

Serene Night... I agree, the pool is gigantic and so is the house. It does give it a bit of a hotel feeling. When I was shopping around for houses here in Phoenix, we saw one house with a pool and home this scale... and it was a $1.5 million dollar place.

When I was putting this render together... it reminded me of the neighborhood in GTA: Vice City where you end up owning a mansion.

  • donovancolbertdonovancolbert Posts: 1,421

Really, Michael's mansion in GTA V, too, for that matter.

I have had a free plugin that does incremental auto saves periodically for some time now.  I'm not sure if this is the exact one but take a look here:   http://www.pontari.com/Products/DazStudio/RecentFiles/default.htm

Note: edited for a more proper link to the latest plugin

Edit2:  OK, I was mistaken about the autosave feature but it does have incremental save (file001, 002, 003 etc.) which can be mapped to a hotkey.  Alternately there is a similar product in the store with more options:  https://www.daz3d.com/super-save

I agree. There were only two things in there that I couldn't use.

The V4 bundle was stuff I already had, but some of it I think I own through one of those "Poser content bundled on the cd for an art magazine" deals or the cd that came with the Daz Studio book many moons ago, so I put that in the cart.

Freak bundle, partially same thing, but caleb hair and the weapons and some of the clothes are new to me, so might as well.

Going to snag the shoes to see if I can get them to autofit forward okay, and maybe some of the clubbing dresses to see if they will dforce.

If you know how to get your preferred female figure into the V4 Zero Pose, how to run an animated DForce pose, and how to find props in the Poser runtime section of your content, here's a dynamic Regency dress for you, currently on sale: https://www.daz3d.com/dynamic-empire-dress-for-v4

Originally for Poser, but works fine in dForce. Comes with a decent selection of textures but you will have to apply them by hand in the surfaces tab. Default texture that it loads with is semi-transparent, so be forewarned.

    Globetrotter Mobile Home

This is to give you a quickie look inside. I hid the "body" and the glass windows to shoot inside, which could be challenging when moving the camera. I don't have the scene loaded anymore, I don't recall seeing cameras provided and they aren't listed. The vehicle focuses on functionality, everything opens and closes and the wheels turn. Great job!

I do wish the exterior had separate material zones so you could do your own decor. You get several options though already.

So keep in mind when you're viewing the interior, the windows are gone and so is the body.

    Sienna (Gen3F / Gen8F)         Quincy Hair (Gen3F / Gen8F)          Exotic Body Outfit (Gen3F)

Compare the opacity (1) when upped to 2, which makes the transparency less for the braids and they're solid (like they SHOULD be.)   If someone has the Exotic Body Outfit, would you check and see if you can get that little side piece to change materials also? It looks stupid IMO to have the surrounding sections in the given cloth preset zones, but not that one. Wondering if I've made a mistake somehow.

This outfit is NOT family friendly in the back. Very little in the rear.
