Non-complaint:  Trip to eye doctor trip in Buffalo went well.  A friend drove me.  Weather was cool but sunny.  An unavoidable road detour made us late by 17 minutes but I was in & out of the doctor's office within an hour anyway.  Doctor is very happy, and said retina reattachment a year ago has healed properly and completely.  Happy happy, joy joy!smiley  They took my standard insurance co-pay as well, so the visit was cheap.yes  Got a little bit lost coming home but it took us through the fall colors of Western NY State forests & fields.  Had lunch at a nice little old fashioned ('50s style) roadhouse.   This trip even netted me a free, foam, medical grade, ice-chest complete with 7 freezer packets.  Doctor's office was giving them away, I got the last one.  It's big enough to hold my refrigerator freezer stuff while I defrost the freezer.  Cool!  Cheaper than buying a new one and freezer packets too.  A good day.yes  So far.indecision

Complaint:  I've got several relatives right smack dab in the hurricane's path.  (St. Petersburg, Fort Meyers, & Naples).   Beautiful homes on or near the shore.  They've all been lucky for the last 50 years, but this might be the big one.sad

Seven years from patent in 1930 to first running version in 1937, he had to whittle it out of wood as whittling metal is just to hard on the whittling knife, though the wooden version had a tendency to burst into flame when run, not ideal for any engine, and and serious problem on a plane. Apparently he couldn't afford the £5 patent renew fee in 1935 as the Air Ministry didn't think it a worth investing in, which is why government bodies are not always the best people to make technology and research decisions, this meant the Germans had a flying jet 9 months before the British, but the German version tended to overheat and had a very limited life span, 10-25 hours before burning out.

Complaint:  My Medicare "Advantage Plan" company just sent me notice that that my plan, that I've had for 13 years, expires at the end of the year and won't be offered again next year.angry  Oy, I hate trying to decipher and choose a medical plan that I can afford.sad

Non-complaint:  Although, there might be a silver lining to this cloud.  Perhaps, it's time that I got real, and admitted that I'm probably going to need better coverage soon anyway.frown  And at least, it was nice of them to tell me right at the beginning of the Medicare renewal season (now through early November) so that I have a few weeks to figure it out.  (*sigh*)  Time to start perusing plans & prices.  Oh, joy.indecision

But at least I'm not running from the ocean tonight.  Good wishes to those that are.

Non-complaint:  Finally, a version of "Hamlet" that is not terminally pretentious and boring.  The 1996 film version.  I've tried several times, with poor success since high school to get through book or film versions of Hamlet and grasp all that's going on and grok the deepness of the words.  This version, updated to the 19th century, but with Elizabethan speech accompanied by (properly spelled, non-computer generated) subtitles is a long trek, but captivating.  Yeah, it's still a bit old-timey, but none the less understandable when accompanied by the excellent acting and presentation.  The sets, the lighting, and the list of recognizable, A-list actors is impressive and surprising.yes

Yeah, it's the full thing, and four hours long, but is an enjoyable check-off of a bucket-list item.  I found it through a recommendation via a YouTube brag clip.  Amazon Prime has it for only $4 to rent for 2 days.

And after watching this movie, addicted to subtitles as I am, I can also say that I have "read" Hamlet, albeit admittedly, an "augmented" reading.devil

Branagh's Shakespeare films are pretty universally good stuff. Not surprised you liked it.

I had to read Hamlet five times for various classes in the process of getting my B.A., and even 20+ years later I'm still quite over it.

Have you seen Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead? It's Hamlet, but from the sidekicks' point of view. Pretty sure you don't have to have as much (forced) exposure to it as I did in order to enjoy it.

    Non-compliant...

The northern lights over Connecticut (Bridgeport in the center) as seen from across Long Island Sound at Sunken Meadow beach on Long Island.

Note: it was not this bright in real life, the long exposure made it about 50% brighter.

This was due to a geomagnetic storm allowing the Aurora Borealis being able to be seen much further south than normal.

    ...nice,

People here in northern Oregon have also been posting images of them, but you have to head out of the city to get away from all the light pollution.  Being "automotively challenged" as I am (haven't driven in decades) wasn't able to see them

During the summer when they were supposed to be visible from here the sky was pretty washed out even at a nearby park along the river north of downtown. That's lfe in the big city for long time astronomy geek (even took a minor in astronomy in college).

I would post pictures but I don't know if they were visible this far south.  Also I think I went to bed early last night.

i wanted to get up at 6 but instead got up at 8 am.  I found my missing medicine at one try this morning.  I thought it was under the corner of my bed and it was there.

Complaint:  Well, THAT was scary!  I've been managing my Atrial fibrillation for many years without serious incident, but I ended up in the Emergency Room last night.surprise  Woke up to pee at 2:00AM and my heart went into Afib overdrive.broken heart  Had all the symptoms.  Pain in left arm, pressure & major pain in chest, dizziness, hard to breathe, sweaty.sad  The ambulance driver gave me an injection of something to calm my heart down.  I spent about 2 1/2 hours in the Emergency Room, getting blood tests & talking to doctors, and trying to get some rest.  But they sent me home at 5:00AM.  I managed to get 3 more hours of sleep at home.  I'll be taking a couple naps today, I'm sure.  My heart seems to be behaving itself today but I have an annoying headache, probably from the drugs they gave me, and caffeine withdrawal(haven't had my coffee this morning).frown  Fortunately, I have my GP doctor appointment already set for Tuesday, and will call my Cardiologist today.  I've had little discomforts before, but this was a biggie.  Gotta make sure I choose and renew my Medicare "Advantage Plan" policy.indecision  I'm afraid to see the bill for the ambulance ride.no  I should have recognized something was building up over the last couple of days, but I just kept shrugging it off as old-age weaknesses, infirmities and indigestion.

Not looking for sympathy, but 'tis a warning tale to listen to your body's complaints.enlightened

I couldn't find my work hat this morning.  I did a quick search and still couldn't find it.  I knew a deep search would be pointless as I had it yesterday.  But I couldn't remember taking it out of the taxi yesterday.

This morning my taxi arrived and I saw a hat on the back seat that looked like my work hat.  It was my hat!

Some might describe that as positive karma from some long forgotten positive energy of yours.   Or, you're just lucky.indecision  Or, there are still civilized people in the world.yes

So I had peered into ye ole refrigerator and did determine our perishable goods were at room temperature.  After others confirmed I was not crazy this time, I started browsing new refrigerators. After looking at their prices, I started browsing appliance repair companies. The friendly appliance repair man determined ye ole evaporator fan had perished faster than room temperature milk. After I paid $430 USD, he did replacenour fan. I assume the fan cost $12.95 to produce, the manufacturer sold it for $212.95, and the rest was a labor cost. I am confident by tomorrow our goods will be cold again.

Thanks.  Will do.  I did take a couple of naps but not enough.  By bedtime Saturday night, ye olde ticker was grumbling a bit again.sad  Moved slowly, avoiding further excitation of it and made it through the night with a good eight hours of sleep.  It's better again this morning.indecision  Today's schedule will be a lot of TV while vegged out on my recliner and will not include any outside activities, housecleaning, or long meal preparation, just a bowl of Campbell's soup or an instant meal like a Hormel's "Compleats" turkey & mashed potatoes.  Mmmm... yum.frown  And I'll try to wean myself off of coffee again.   Anyway, I usually only have one cup of real coffee per day, and two or three cups of decaf.  But I think for now, I'll stick with water.enlightened

I think what started the problem on Friday was that I had gotten down on my hands & knees, scrubbing the toilet, inside & out, and the floor around it.  Tight, limited, awkward space, overweight old man, not a good combination.
