...well summer here officially ended on Wednesday.  he high on Tuesday was 93° and by mid morning he next day it was in teh low 60s with rain.  Not the usual  drizzly stuff we get here but an honest to goodness soaking rain like I remember from living in the midwest which soaked completely through my jacket (which is nromally sufficient protection against the usual drizzle we get), my shirt, and heavy long-sleeved T-shirt underneath.

Basically in the span of less than18 hours we went from mid July to mid October.

Be thankful you didn't get the soaking they got in the south from Helene!  surprise

...true, just felt more like a midwest "gully washer" while I was waking, though it lasted iver 20 min..

I saw some footage of the flooding, even Atlanta and Tennessee was were not spared. The storm itself was 500 miles wide when it made landfall (that's 31 miles greater than the distance between Portland to Sacramento) and yesterday the leading edge clouds could be seen as far north as Southern Wisconsin.

Some of the far edge clouds got to Massachusetts, but no rain or wind from it.

Non-complaint:  Finally, a version of "Hamlet" that is not terminally pretentious and boring.  The 1996 film version.  I've tried several times, with poor success since high school to get through book or film versions of Hamlet and grasp all that's going on and grok the deepness of the words.  This version, updated to the 19th century, but with Elizabethan speech accompanied by (properly spelled, non-computer generated) subtitles is a long trek, but captivating.  Yeah, it's still a bit old-timey, but none the less understandable when accompanied by the excellent acting and presentation.  The sets, the lighting, and the list of recognizable, A-list actors is impressive and surprising.yes

Yeah, it's the full thing, and four hours long, but is an enjoyable check-off of a bucket-list item.  I found it through a recommendation via a YouTube brag clip.  Amazon Prime has it for only $4 to rent for 2 days.

And after watching this movie, addicted to subtitles as I am, I can also say that I have "read" Hamlet, albeit admittedly, an "augmented" reading.devil

...reminded me a bit of Hurricane Sandy which stretched from the east coast to the Great Lakes.  The outer bands of the storm reached over south-eastern Wisconsin on  the western edge of Lake Michigan where it was churning up "rough seas" and incredibly large waves along the shoreline.

I applied to a pizza place called Sbarro.  I went today to talk a little to the manager there.  I was nervous so I waited until right before my ride came.  I was nervously anxious that she would say no job for me there.

instead she said she will get back to me later.

well I'm watching a movie with a guy who has a nose like Adam Driver's.

Well, it does sort of look like an asterisk.surprise  And a bit of Googleing reveals that the root word comes from the ancient Greek word meaning star, so let's describe it, more or less, as aster-ish.smiley  Wheee..., I have a lawn full of stars.yes

Non-complaint:  Yay, 2nd eye has been laser cleaned.  Still dilated and blurry, but tomorrow all should be OK.  Wheee...

'Nother non-complaint:  Yay, I've arranged for a ride to Buffalo next Tuesday for eye doctor appointment up there.  Just one more ride to arrange for during this doctor visit season.  Then it's all over for a while, all the rest of my doctors are local can I can get there by bus or Uber.

    @ Sfariaza D: Here's a spare set of braces '{' '}', just in case.

Non-complaint:  Yay, it was cold here this morning.  This house only has one thermostat for both apartments and it's in the neighbor's apartment.  I have only one floor register that that I can open or close to effectively affect my heat.  The furnace hasn't run since Spring.  The old neighbors and I had worked together to figure out how to keep both apartments tolerably warm, but now they've moved out.  The new neighbors are still moving in, and I was afraid they would forget about me sharing their heat and start modifying register openings and thermostat settings.  But this morning, after I'd bundled up in heavy socks and flannel shirt, and huddled under a blanket, at 9:00 AM they finally turned on the furnace.  I have heat again.yes  Yay!  But it remains to be determined if the heat is balanced.indecision

Complaint:  The heating problem is confounded by the fact that we also share an electrical circuit.  Into which I have to plug an electric heater for additional heat in my livingroom/office/lab where I spend 90% of my awake time.  If they plug in a vacuum cleaner or heater into their end of the circuit while my heater is turned on warming my feet at the desk, the circuit breaker pops.sad  Over the 16 years that I've been here, the circuit breaker has popped so many times that it wore out and had to be replaced last Spring.  Landlord wasn't happy.  But I wish he'd realize that he really needs to isolate my circuit from the other apartment.  It's apparently easier and cheaper for him to tell me to run a 25 foot extension cord from an ungrounded (i.e. not 3-wire) outlet on a different circuit in the bathroom, plugged into medicine cabinet's lights by using an ugly adapter, not to mention the cord running under the bathroom door, preventing its ability to close, than do the right thing.angry

Non-complaint:  Yay, both my eyes are working at high capacity again.smiley  Clear images, no smudges, but...

Complaint:  Arghhh..., the light, the light, everything outdoors is so bright again, and my computer monitor is so bright, that I wear sunglasses to keep from squinting.indecision

Non-complaint:   I haven't been able to see stars in years.  But when the weather clears, and I have a clear night again, I might now be able to see stars again, and maybe even the comet that's putting on a show this month.yes

    Complaint.

...the sky may be falling but come this January my rent will be going the other way, again..  Received a letter in the mail from the management company who took the building over a couple years ago . This is the second rent increase in a row (usually increases occurred every other year)..

Next year's Social Security living cost adjustment will be a meagre 2.5% which will basically go to the rent increase leaving me with about the same income level as this year. It is the largest I've seen since I moved here over 7 years ago (this is supposedly subsidised low income housing yet I'm paying about 46% of my income in just rent alone)..

I think they're doing this intentionally. I suspect most of the people in the building have some type of "fixed income" that the slumlords can monitor, and they just increase the rent the same percentage as the income increase.

I'm at my friend's album release show, and the sound is absolutely horrific. I only occasionally hear hints of music through an oppressive wall of bass frequencies.

I woke up with a migraine this morning.  Those mornings with migraines are the best.  That is if I don't have anything to do that day.

Yesterday I filled out a ballot and gave it to a nice post office lady. Before I could give it to her, I had this nice lady at the bank see that I signed it so she can put her proof I signed it and I was me.

Not going into anymore details, but I think that is a reason I got a migraine this morning.  Who knew voting for cutest kitty in the world was so hard. wink

I saw ads for a sleep tracker.  It turns out to be yet another subscription based sleep tracking app.

I did the survey and it said I don't have any sleep debt but I require about 9 or 10 hours of sleep.  Not convinced I need to pay for the app or do the 7 day trial.

Non-complaint:  I took the one-a-day bus into my local city (Jamestown, NY) yesterday.  Went to medical area of the city for X-Ray and blood tests.  Then I toddled one block down the hill to a small cafe for breakfast.  Meh, edible food but greasy.  Eggs were greasy, bacon was greasy and overcooked, English muffin was cold.  Price was unwarranted.  Won't be doing that again.cheeky  I'll stick to TimHortons for breakfast in that area from now on.enlightened  After breakfast I steeled myself for the nearly half mile trek farther down the hill to the BigLots store.  Huff, puff, wheeze..., made it to the store and collapsed into a comfy chair on display for a few minutes to catch my breath.  After shopping for a few things, I pulled out my cell phone to call for an Uber to take me home... BUT...

Complaint:  Arghhh..., no connection!surprise  Why?  It's always worked at BigLots before.frown   A few experiments later I realized why.  No WiFi Internet connection, so my phone should have automatically switched to using Mobile connection through the cell towers, but to do that, the Uber app needs "Data-Access", I have oodles and oodles of Talk-Minutes built-up, but I had run out of Data-Access.sad  It's been a couple years since I'd needed to buy Data-Access and had completely forgotten about them.  (*Sigh*).  I solved the problem by toddling to the other end of the block to the TimHorton's where they had a free Guest WiFi that I could use (*Whew*).  Although another way to have solved the problem would have been to toddle even farther to the CVS drugstore and buy some talk and data access for my TracFone Android.  But the free WiFi at TimHortons did the trick and I was on my way home.yes  Unfortunately, by now, I was in the peak fare time of day.no  After I got home I sat down and fiddled with my phone for a while and finally was able to buy 3GB of Data-Access($10) to add to my TracFone Talk-Minutes subscription(about $11/month).  So, I'm all set for next time, I hope.indecision
