There is a great little videogame/action movie crossover based on a novel All You Need Is Kill with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt called Edge Of Tomorrow where I thought the gamerr thing made a neat contribution and is not a real bad action movie either so I guess there is room for the different worlds to if not buddy up at least make a bit of eye contact :)

...we also had films based off of games like Mortal Kombat (including a couple sequels), Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy, as well as ones where video/computer games were part of the plot like War Games, Last Starfighter, and of course the 80s classic, Tron, so the marriage of gaming and film has been around a while.

...gah I dislike this spell checker, keep having to go back into edit mode way too often.

an unhappy marriage of two styles though on the whole, like characters in a David Hockney painting. The Tom Cruise movie uses levelling up and "lives" - a bit like pacman -  to drive the narrative, haven't seen that before outside of arthouse shorts so am feeling optomistic. Again.

eta darn the editor is giving me a hard time !

etta : one of the Hockneys

ettta: I'm sure you spell optomistic optimistic whisky tango foxtrot computer says no

Fruitbats like a flock of dark shadows in an indigo sky circling the full moon as the sun sets over our garden :)

Cool!  It will be interesting to see the results of the search. It would be great to see it proven.

So, in 30 years when they finally get a probe way out there in the dark to photograph it, let's hope it has two big moons so that it looks like this and we can call it "Mickey":

I've tried animation a few times, with Carrara, and DAZ Studio but it's a LOT of work.  I admire those who stick to it and get good results.

I spent most of tonight browsing around YouTube looking for performances of less well known classical music pieces.  I get side-tracked at YouTube as much if not more so as  I do in Wikipedia.  Listened to a lot of snatches of things, found a few more that I think I'll start collecting on CD.  I got into a bunch of Glazinov pieces and poked around and re-discovered his 2nd piano concerto.  I can't say the whole thing enthralls me but the first few minutes of the 1st movement are some of my most favorite.  Sends shivers up my spine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNYb21fZLPw and it gets interesting again about 14:00.  And the grand finish starts at about 17:00, marvelous.

Hey thanks for that, is on the studio monitors now and wow it is real fresh and retro sentimental all at once :)

...so 4.9 is finally out.  Need to see the system specs before installing.  Older system only 12 GB (11 useable) of memory, 1GB GPU, first generation i7 (haven't even installed the latest Reality 4 updates as the CPU doesn't support the Lux 1.5 speed boost).

I don't know about there being a blizzard now... I pretty much was prepared from a month or more back, all I needed was to fill some extra gas cans... Did that and covered up most of my outdoor stuff...  Plus I had to drive into NYC this morning and ended up in back of a brining truck on the Northern  State Parkway for about 15 miles, so my van is nice and briny ahead of time...  I suppose I could have tested my generator, but I have whatever I need to fix/start it,  so I'm not hauling it out unless my bones say it's a big storm... None of my broken bones are saying its a big storm, but they are not alway right... Stupid bones.

This stupid iPad, actually it's probably all iPads, but either most people don't notice crap or don't want to admit these things can have flaws... Anyway, I usually have to look at the keys on the iPad to type, but for whatever reason (though it seems to happen here 90% of the time) while I'm typing it just stops inputting what I've typed... On these forums, if you try to move the typing field, the cursor usually freezes and you have tap the screen where you left off... But every now and then it just acts like I moved the typing field... Annoying because I'll go a couple of sentences before I notice it sometimes... More annoying because if you look at the spellcheck suggestions, they show the iPad registered what I typed, it just didn't commit to to the screen.

Maybe one day I'll go to the Apple forums and mention this so that twenty people can tell me it's my fault for not knowing some secret feature existed and was in the default selection or I was holding the iPad in my left hand too long on a Thursday... Phfffft!

But anyway, my guess is the snow won't be so bad...

Also I'm having that feeling reinforced by News 12, they are making a big deal about it so I'm figuring it gonna be the opposite... In case you don't know, News 12 is Long Island's "own" news station (but somehow only available on Cablevision)... They are TERRIBLE at news, just awful... small children with a Fisher-Price fun cam could toss together a better report in five minutes... Like last week there was a hit and run and they forgot to mention the vehicle's description, but added "If you recognize this vehicle, police are asking for your help"... What vehicle?

Megh... I feel like I've been super grumpy lately.  Have I?   I hope this won't effect the collectibility of my limited edition "Me in a Viking helmet with a soggy collar" bobble head dolls... I already feel my recent comments about the volatility of the stock market may have put some people off...

...yeah local news has a habit of making big things out of almost nothing.

When we do get snow, it's pretty much nonstop 24 hour Winter Blast XX coverage or some rubbish like that. They tell everyone to stay home while their hapless reporters are outside freezing their bums off standing around on freeway overpasses, street corners, at the airport etc. Never knew why they don't heed their own, as well as the County Sheriff's dept and state DOT's advice to stay off the streets.

Most often than not, a storm here will drop what back in Wisconsin we would consider a laughable amount of snow, yet here they make it sound like the coming of the next apocalypse. Crikey one year the local media even went as far as using the term "Snowpocalypse" a few years ago for a huge storm they predicted would hit us. That much feared event (which caused market shelves to empty, schools to be closed in advance, and the transit system to chain up all the buses overnight) never even touched us at all as it pushed further north along the Washington coast towards Seattle.  In the end, here in Portland we barely got as much as a dusting that didn't even stick to the streets and by 10:30 AM it was sunny and in the mid 40s.

The local media was heavily criticised for whipping everyone up in a frenzy which not only caused a huge inconvenience, but also cost the county, city, schools, local businesses, and transit system money.

Blizzard is snow with sustained winds of a certain speed...I think 40mph or higher, I'm not positive.  But the result is snow moving nearly horizontally as it comes down.  It means drifts that can be quite deep.  It means the "wind chill" is freaking frigid.  it means one side of your house may be clean, the other side (being hit by the wind) may have snow stuck to it from top to bottom and maybe even a couple inches thick.  It means that if you are out in it, with face unprotected, it will feel like your face is being sandblasted...with ice rather than sand.  It means, stay home and drink hot chocolate!  It means perhaps you can find the front steps if you work at it.  indecision
