I certainly have found it an adequate substitutef for MS Office, as my version of that won't work on this PC.

Is Libre office math similar to excel?

edit: nope it is not.  What is the math program?

    I believe it's called Calc.

I am trying to render a scene with iRay but keep getting black renders.   I am also trying to render Dawn with SuperFly but keep getting white skin for her.

Be sure you have plenty of light in Iray.  For SuperFly, don't use the SSS skin for Dawn, it's not compatible right now.  You should notice better results with the standard skin textures.  If you have EZ-skin, I hear that works well with it, too.  I believe that's a script from SnarlyGribbly, but don't quote me on that.

Yeah, I've got a bunch of that white stuff filling the air out my windows too.  It's falling onto now rock hard ex-slush.  I don't dare try to take my car down the driveway because of the incline.  I'd slide right out onto the main road. surprise

iz a day to hunker down, or week rather, or month  lol

Real hot here again and heating up more today altho is bearable so far :)

...yeah, I see just in time for the Australian Open Tennis tournament again.

Tennis centre is two blocks away from our place, is hot sweaty and crowded here today :)

nearly had a heart attack, critter was at my window
first thought it was a cat, but it ran odd didn't move like a cat
coulda been raccoon or fox, too big to be a bunny
few inches of snow on ground was prolly feeling warm by the window
window sil is a few inches above ground level, from inside sil is about 2 ft from the floor
    mebbe it was a cat
was just not a graceful one

6 AM is probably too "late" for a possum... Also it's pretty cold and they are fairly shy and graceless, and they are a little bit slow and tend to waddle... A raccoon will watch you from a window, they like to just stare in basement widows in a very creepy manner, and they do run when startled... They have an old gait though, but can be mistaken for a cat in just a glimpse. A fox might peep in, but they are very cautious and don't usually go near windows... But that's all "usually"... almost any animal can act outside the norm, we had a fox around here that would sit on people's decks by the back door like he was waiting to be let in... Maybe he saw dogs or cats doing it and figured he'd get some treats... Just freaked people out though and a few screamed and panicked, not knowing what animal they were looking at.  A friend of mine in Coram was sitting on the couch (like two feet from the sliding back door) watching tv and he saw a shadow and turned around to see a deer watching TV with him... Like transfixed by it.

It could have been any of those, but I'm going with it being one of those north shore Chupacabras that have been showing up lately... Don't worry they are really only a problem for people who live on lower floor apartments. So far they haven't really attacked anyone that much.

Or it was a drunk cat... That happens too.

    Good morning everyone!

Wild weekend of football, wings, and pizza.  I think I'm finaly tired of wings.. uurp!

Got a job offer Friday, today it's paperwork and background checks.  Not sure if I'll start tomorrow, but it'll definitely be sometime this week.  W00t!  It's working on Windows CE, on devices used to test pipeline conitions so they can be maintained and repaired.  Fun stuff, and since it's not all firmwre it's a good career move. laugh

Will need to g out and get a bus pass today, there's a stop 1/4 mile from the office.  Commute will be cheap! Plus, there's a Sonic up the road so getting food will be a short walk, and there's sidewalk al the way.  There's a Medeterainian buffet about 1/2 a mile off.. hmm.

First paycheck, I go out and party, then after that everything spare goes into savings.  I want a fat nest egg ASAP.  This is a 3 month contract to possible hire, but it's best tp plan for another searhin in 3 months or so Just In Case.  Look what happened last time.. the company shut down. indecision

Need to shave and clean up in case I have to carry paperwork over to the headhunter.. meh.  Need coffee and brekkie to...

shave and a haircut - knock knock

    encouraging news, good luck

sidewalks!  wish had more of that here.  living in boonies cheaper they don't spend tax revenue on cement

....Panthers fared better than my Packers in spite of the incredible plays Green Bay made in the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime.

Thought the NFL revised overtime rules to allow both teams to possess the ball as it is a full 15 min period.  Not so, the first team to get a touchdown wins, so it's still pretty much a "sudden death" situation.

Yeah disappointed, especially given the effort they made to stay in the game and and take it to the wire. However, proud with the way they played overall and that they refused to give up. even when it looked as if the game was lost in regulation.

I'm not sure if there is a quarterback who ever thrown three successful "Hail Marys" especially two in the same game like on Saturday.

This is the best game I've seem in years.  Sunday's games were blah after this one.

...yeah felt the same way about the 2011 Rose Bowl when Wisconsin (behind Russell Wilson) met Oregon.  That one went down to whomever had the ball last with enough time was going to win. Even though the Badgers came up short, I have to say it was one of the best Rose Bowls I ever saw.  I may have lived in Oregon for over 26 years, but my heart is still in the heartland.

Regarding the game Saturday, I have to say, for a team that was banged up on both sides of the ball (losing their other best starting WR during the game), having a number of second and even third string players on the field facing the #2 team in the conference and not only hold their own but have a chance to win it, still makes me proud of my boys, especially considering the shellacking Arizona put on them four weeks ago. On that big 75 yard play for the Cardinals in overtime, if Daniels had just one more step, he would have sacked Palmer (who got tangled up with one of his one linemen) possibly even causing a turnover.  It was really that close.

...I'd say Hot Cocoa, but that's me.

If you were in Alaska or the Yukon, it could have been a moose.

Had a friend who was living in a small town in Alaska, and one warm spring day, he opened the window and shutters to air the kitchen out only to have a moose poke it's nose inside, scaring the living daylights out of him.

17F here right now (8:00AM, 60 miles south of Buffalo, NY) about 2 feet of snow on the ground and another 1-3 inches expected today.  Not really a lot, but the most this year.  Local high school is closed and they rarely close because this area is so used to heavy snow.  My driveway is full of snow, neighbors have made no attempt to clear it, they just park their two cars in the first 20 feet down by the main road and leave my car isolated 120 feet further up and around behind the house. I offered to split the cost of a plowing job but I guess they figure the old fart next door doesn't need to go out at all. angry  Thankfully, I don't for a while but will eventually need to go get prescriptions filled.

I surprised myself a little while ago.  I'd quit PC a few years ago but there was one of those "Everybody able to use PC for a day" sales and I didn't even bother looking because I've been down that road a few times before and bought nothing after looking through the entire catalog.  There's just nothing I need anymore.  Although, I'm sure some people were as happy as pigs in mud.

...well for Carrara a 1,000$ GPU is not really necessary since it's render engine is CPU mode only.  You just need enough video horsepower to run the viewport. The number of Cores/Threads is unimportant. You could get a 4GB Nvidia GTX 740 with 384 ccores for just 115$

More physical memory on the MB is what is important so it doesn't go into swap mode during a render process. I would imagine 32 GB would be sufficient for rendering most scenes and doing animation in Carrara.
