hmm... time to see if one can create a softbox type light in 3Delight....
I think a meshlight would be the thing. Make a plane an emitter. I think I did that once, but I can't remember the specifics right now. It was way before we had Iray, though.
Dana
I'll give it a try.. I don't do Iray... I wish there was a DAz compatible version of Vray, though..
That's the way to go, make an emissive plane as long as the object of intrest.
To make the plane emissive, select the surfaces tab , give it an IRAY base coler and change the emissive coler in the surfaces tab to the desired color and adjust the luminance to your taste.
In this way i made this shot.
He doesn't do Iray. 3DL had a way to do mesh lights. I think it may have been the old Uber lights...not iray.
Dana
Yep. Uber Area light is the way to go.
This is a thread tutorial about Uber Area lights: https://download.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/14536/tutorial-uber-area-lighting-the-basics/p14 (sorry, this link brings you into the middle of the thread)
It may be part of the UberEnvironment 2.
Dana
@hacsart
Create a plane primitive with 1 division (one poly), select it both in the scene tab and in the surface tab, go to your content library/light presets/Omnifreaker and doubleclick the UberArea light shader to apply it to the plane. Go to the surface tab and activate shadows and fall off (if you want it to behave realistically), crank up samples to min 64, maybe even 256 to avoid noise, crank up intensity to 1000+, adjust light color, enable Fantom to make it invisible to the camera, and you should be good to go;) Remember that the light direction is same as the normals, so you need to flip the plane as the default is upwards. No need to adjust diffuse or ambient color if you want it to be invisible...hope I didn't forget something=) Well progressive rendering will be faster with the UberArea, but that will reset the pixelfilters to box= 1x1 so for best results you want to do non progressive rendering.
If you haven't looked into aweSurface yet, I recommend it. Those PT arealights render superfast compared to UberArea, and are compatible with IBLM if you prefer to use that. If you have questions, I'll be happy to assist;)
Here is and example of aweSurface with just an HDRI and IBL-Master, one of my first experiments with combining the two:
Nice.
Dana
Real nice
Thanks for all the advice.. time to play .. In the meantime, though:
Nice 56
Cool looking.
Dana
HAHAHA...he is going down nine mile road. He is nine miles long...lol.
" A keep away from runaround Sue!".....
At our house, it was wash hands before sitting at the table, everyone must be seated before grace was said to start eating, no hats or caps allowed at the table and you must have a shirt on to eat at the table. This was all require before every meal was served.
My take on this kinda scene......
Szark....thanks for posting this wonderful trike by our late friend Catamaran. He was a friend of mine, so if you don't mind, I am gonna post a full view pic of this beautiful render. This is in memory of a great artist.
I used to use the "Reality" plugin exclusively. So much that Hobby World magazine, a world wide magazine, asked me to do an interview and article on "Realistic renders" because they liked my renders so much. I did it for them and the released it in their Dec 2010 issue world wide. The featured a few of my renders with me telling them how I did them. Here is one of the renders I did using ONLY primitive flat planes converted to emmision surface lighting. No other lights were used. All reflective lighting.
1969 Dodge charger R/T....HEMI.
1970 Chevelle SS 396....four speed!
1937 Cord 812.
1958 Chevy Impala Continental.
Rolls Royce Bentley.
This truck was made in photoshop useing a current model chevy truck and the 59 Apache front and rear end.
Thnaks Mate.. might take you up on the questions when I start playing with AWE
...another awe render...
Sven, that is nice.. Just got AWE, any suggestions on getting started with it?
Tks:) Well I'd suggest you start with these=)

Just load a car you've worked with already, so the surface zones are familiar, select all surfaces and apply aweSurface base using the script found in content library/shader presets/wowie/aweSurface. In there you'll find a number of basic presets for glass, metals etc. Also load the aweEnvironment (smart content/environment/skydomes and load an HDRI into the environmental sphere diffuse color, with aweEnvironment selected, go to parameters/lighting and set exposure to max, that will give you sufficient lighting to start with. As to not derail this thread with all this tech stuff, feel free to ask ANY question in my awe testtrack thread!

Btw, did you get the commercial kit or the freebie stuff? The commercial one has and IRayUber to awe convertion script FYI. There are also quickstart scenes for both versions, the commercial one loads the aweEnvironment and an area light and the default G2F converted to awe. If you delete the G2F you have a nice starter scene with a pretty balanced lighting with a good white balance;) Just save as a subset!
