Fluidos II works with VDBs, but I don't think it can output them.
I think that Fluidos II automatically saves the vdb files (in the folder set for the simulation files) when you run a simulation.
...ah so in using Daz itself it's out of the question. I have the most recent version of Blender that still supports W7 so may have to give that a try. Would be great for creating elemental spirits.
being able to render "Motion Blur" would be awesome . right now the motion blur effect has to be done in pre production & it can be time consuming
This is a model i made of my car a 1998 - 3000gt vr4 I rendered these scenes in iray using stone masons urban future3 set
In order to make the motion blur look right it had to be setup in pre production first in 3DL and render with the motion blurr in the background. because 3dl can render motion blur, and I do not think no one going to notice much if the motion blur effect is iray or 3dl . So then I rendered everything in the scene in Iray to bring out the details. its time consuming when setting scenes up for animation, so a built-in tool for motion blur would be great addition to daz iray.
This set up took like 15 mins and about 5 minutes to render in 2 layers to make the motion blur effect. these renderers are in 4k sizes so if you click on them you'll see the pre production technique gives good results
Looks cool!
Is motion blur related to volumetric effects in some way?
There is also a feature for using inhomogeneous volumetrics without having to use a VDB. In the Render Settings, under Environment, there is a new Atmospheric Ground which uses the volumetric MDL on a dynamically created cube aligned with ground. You can use this without needing to create and import any VDB files. Here are some examples.
It doesn't generate any wisps but I think it is better than the SSS cube trick we had before.
Not as I understand it, no.
No it not , its 2 different things. Motion blur is effect to give the viewer the feeling of there is some kind of rapid motion. Its something to add to the wishlist. Iray does is not cable of motion blur as far as I know.& motion blur is a popular effect in most other 3d software. as is volumetric, particle & physics . its very useful for animation effects
How fast is this implementation if I may ask? Does it take up a lot of cycles?
The ground fog doesn't seem to add much extra render time. I didn't save those scenes so I don't have the redner times. Using a VDB is going to really depend on the size of the volume and how it is lit. If you have a light inside a volume it's going to be more slow because it has to calculate the light interacting with the different densities. Probably best to wait until the official shaders are released to see what the speed will look like.
...so which beta is this available in? I'm still on 4.16.1.40
It is available since version 4.16.1.21: Environment -> Ground Fog -> On
..thank you.
Next question, which release introduced the volumetric effects?
My main fear is that the volumetrics will demand a version of nVidia gfx driver that is not supported by Win 7.
The Iray update thread lists the minimum driver versions. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/529616/daz-studio-pro-4-16-1-was-4-15-1-nvidia-iray#Comment_7277511
..yeah I'm on the last driver available for W7. Will be a few months before I can upgrade to W11 Pro (still no Retail version available).
Here is my second image using Daz Studio 4.20, loving the new ground fog option..
So is the ground fog all that us non-PAs have available or .. is there a button somewhere in 4.20 that I have to press to add Volumetric loveliness ???
The basic ground fog option is a part of the environment tab.. And the settings I have in that image will give a nice knee high pea soup type fog..
Yeah, I saw that .. I take it that's all we get then? And any VDB in the shop is just something that gets added to the scene?
How do I load volume? I am not seeing it anywhere.
Pretty much yeah, a best guess is that the tools to do the fancy stuff will be PA only..
Oh right .. I think I'll pass then .. there's only so many rocket launches I want to render (... about 1 .. for the record)
well the shadermixer options are available to all, as is the Nvidia MDL stuff, it is more brains only and I missed out on that plugin
the blessed ones brainswise not just PAs, could cook us up an animated VDB sequence using a job file like Casual's Texanim does with images maybeas animated is an option in shadermixer, I just don't now how to do it
I can make my own VDB files, Blender can do it as can Houdini Apprentice I believe too
Same here.
Have Daz put out any basic instructions on this?
I see Sales have got Jumbo's flying though clouds etc
But a simple tutorial on how you make a smokey cube wouldn't go amiss
some more free ones
https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/game-dev?q=VDB§ion=free
The problem is that there seems to be no information on how to import VDB's into Studio.. We know it can be done due to this product https://www.daz3d.com/ka-rocket-launch-vdb but that is it..
I've managed to load a VDb, but the onscreen version is nothing like the example image.
I get a blocky white cloud, instead of round and fluffy
on their own they sort of work but in scenes I am not getting good results at all, tried a sphere as well as a cube, there are actually 2 cubes in the second one but because it is obscured partially by the cauldron (supposed to be fire) it vanishes.
they don't seem to like intersecting stuff or each other at all
I cannot colour my Octane VDB's but they don't behave like this and do accept coloured emitters inside lighting them, the tiny emitter under my cauldron ignores the fire VDB you simply cannot see
