Cowboys are going to be next, and thanks to youtube and Daz instructional videos I am finding it easier to learn posing. I'm still working on Car Crush as well.
I'm taking a bit of a break from babies, but I will be back. May also try a child, since I think it would be cute to do some cooking daddies.
The issue with cowboys is the horse saddle and bridle really don't work, so there is only so much I can do with it.
If anyone knows of a good old fashioned kind of cowboy fence... Like they have on ranches in the old days made of wood I may add some cowboys on the fence.
Nice work!
Thanks. These are coming along well I think. With me getting some time off next week, I'm going to have some fun posing away.
I'm wanting to do a pose where the cowboy carries horse 2 saddle over its shoulder. I realize there is only so much flexibility here, but every time I move the fenders the whole saddle jumps partly off the character's shoulder.
I realize I can't do the straps since they don't have flexibiltiy on them so I turned them opaque. But any idea why the fenders do that? May have to try millenium horse saddle. The pose is not done, just trying to rough it out.... With the saddle and figure sorta.
Maybe have him rest the saddle on his shoulder while holding it by the saddle horn. For the fenders & reins you could make the all the saddle surfaces static except those two & run it through dForce simulation. Too bad you couldn't share that simulated data as a saddle pose though.
It may or may not be related to the fact that the centerpoint of the saddle's axes is nowhere near the centerpoint of the saddle itself. When it's unparented, the centerpoint of the saddle's rotation axes is on the floor, even though the saddle comes into the scene more or less at the default height for the back of Horse 2. For the Y-rotation axis, that doesn't matter, because that one axis goes through the center of the saddle anyway. For the X- and Z-rotations, it's a problem becuase you wind up with it moving in huge arcs around that point.
From the look of the image you posted, what happens when you parent it to the character is that the axes (including the Y-axis, it looks like) move to the end of the saddle, so all of the motion will be in a sphere around that point at the tail. It may be that when the saddle is parented to Horse 2, those axes wind up centered inside the barrel of the horse, which would make sense of a sort.
Also, the saddle is kind of weird. The areas where the fenders and saddle come together are very flexible. I didn't think a Western saddle was supposed to bend there. I mean, the fenders themselves, yes, but not the actual saddle.
For western style fences I'd suggest either Ranch Road Path or Ranch Environment Prop Set, since these were both PC+ freebies at one point, so you might already own them.
I took Nonesuch's advice and it looks a bit better with hand on the saddle horn. I still have to hide the rear fenders though...But if they don't show they don't show. Wish I could undo the straps and make the saddle kinda flexible since its not going to be open like there is a horse inside. You can kind of scale the width but it behaves wierd when you do.. I may just leave that up to people who download the pose set to mess with.
Did try the dforce, but....
Thanks, Ranch environment looks good, and people may have that.... So I think I'll use that... Here's one for the fence! Any sort of fence like this with scaling should work though.
Bummer!
That's classic old west pose. Good job.
Thanks! I’m going to try messing around with the saddle more but for now I’m going to consider that pose a wip.
This image suggests that if the person is carrying the saddle by the horn, the bulk of the saddle will be behind them, not to the side. From an image composition point of view, this would keep the saddle from blocking the view of the person carrying it. Makes sense for balance, as well; he's also leaning over a fair amount. https://image1.masterfile.com/getImage/700-03407355em-cowboy-carrying-western-saddle-on-shoulder-stock-photo.jpg
Unfortunately, the straps on the Horse 2 saddles aren't flexible enough for the most logical one: https://comps.canstockphoto.com/bronc-rider-stock-images_csp0764025.jpg
This looks ... awkward, but maybe manageable with the saddle as it is. https://image1.masterfile.com/getImage/819-02122158em-man-in-cowboy-hat-carrying-saddle-and-rope-stock-photo.jpg
I like number 1 I may give that a go. It also has the benefit of being partially concealed when carried that way. So it’s missing pieces may not be so obvious.
The saddle itself is not smooshy enough really so it permanently looks like a horse is inside. I may see if I can put an invisible horse inside the saddle and see how it poses. I can distort the horse chest to make the straps look better... when I’m feeling masochistic enough I may try it.
oddly the. saddle does have pose controls so you can move parts of it but it looks bizarro. I tried making it a little less broad and small since it’s quite huge when Michael carries it but no real luck changing its width scaling.
thanks for your suggestions though. I like them.
If there are any other cowboy type poses people want to see speak up. No gunfighter stuff though. There are plenty of armed men poses in the store already.
The 1st photo is also what I've seen. I've never seen the 2 variation, but then a bronco rider isn't using a off-the-shelf saddle anyway.
When I google cowboy carrying saddle there are so many ways this appears to be done. I chose the shoulder method due to it being rather hunky.... I also can’t do the strap carry and the forward front looked pedestrian. The side drag is common but I don’t want to reveal all the fake unmoving gear and I still don’t have straps and the side carried saddle seems compressed. so the shoulder carry was what I opted for.
im not married to the idea though. I also intend to try the other saddle in my runtime.
I could use a coiled rope. Lots of the cowboys have a coiled saddle rope so if anyone has seen one let me know...my cowboy needs to conform to the cowboy dress code...
The other common way I've seen is with both forearms brought together about at stomach height with hands joined while the saddle is draped over the forearms or holding on to front and back of the saddle. It's awkward though and for example saddle's hoisted off a rail or shelf lugged a short ways and then hoisted up on the horse's back.
It’s probably realistic to do it in front but given the.. lack of realism of the saddle bits dangling beneath I’m probably going to pass on showing the ugly truth that it’s A bit stretched out and funny under there
it would be cool to have the character putting the saddle on the horse but I’d want dangling straps...
Its possible straps can be made in dforce or an easy pose like prop... but that’s probably more than I’m willing to do
Sometimes cowboys actually have to do some work! like rescuing this baby calf here. =-)
Its noggins calf. I had to increase the length of its legs so it would look like the calf and cowboy pics I can see on the net.
Ha, great!
Not exactly the best saddle to get to fit. I had to hide a few bits :)

That looks pretty great though! Nice job on that.
When I saw beast hd I immediately thought of beast man from the he-man tv show. I liked the mix-n-match options... he’s also got a nice pelt of chest hair and scars. So he’s sitting in my cart while I check out the free items.
I do have to say that everyday is Victoria 8s birthday in the daz store
Western Saddles weigh about 32-40 pounds, it isn't fun no matter how you carry them :) The baby poses are so adorable!
That's the weight of my rucksack when I go into the hills for five or six days :)
Yeah. I have to say that most DAZ poses are largely fantasy. Just as women go into combat with their spines bent and their boobs skyward, males can heft a 35 pound saddle and look hot quite easily.
I'm really liking Noggins cattle. There is a nice variety of the breeds texture expansion.
Owen has a thing for Cowboys. So, I used him to test out the pose with the calf. I'm quite impressed with the little Noggins calf. Quite nice given its age.
I think that's my new favorite of yours.
