Thanks.
@Barbult. I can tell you right off the bat that I love the IDG bundle. Not only does it really make the 3delight textures look good there are more coat options than is included in the pro pack. Horse 2 pro has 16, and the IDG bundle has 32. Plus more hoof and mane and tail colors.
Here is bay texture, default lighting out of the box. Both with the default texture and with the IDG texture.
This is the freebie mane for Horse 2. It only appears to hang to this side. It is 3delight only but takes iray shading well. For a freebie it seems a nice variant to add to one's collection of tools.
IDG essentials add a bump, and you can add glossiness settings to your horse's coat. Something you can't do with the regular horse 2... So it gets my vote. I don't have the other product though so can't compare them.
Thiis is excellent
Aww thanks! Now that I have horse pro I will do even more great stuff.
Here I had M8 with DAZ Lamb. Daz Lamb looks okay in certain types of lighting but its limits need to be turned off to get the pose to work.
Thanks for the update. I have Horse 2 Pro Bundle that I got super cheap in some sale in the past, but I've never even used it. I'll wishlist the IDG textures for now. It seems like they are on sale quite often - maybe not quite as cheap, though.
Some kitbashing and an experiment adding a cartoon character to the OOTS intimates product as a texture. Owen is wearing the Ready for Bed Genesis 8 female PJ bottoms.
Female pajamas with that motive? The cartoon pony matching the tank top colors good.
Yeah those pajama bottoms have a number of patterns anyone can wear. This is from the texture expansion. I wish there was a pants lower morph to make the waist go down a smidge
it is products like this that make me wonder why a male fit is not made.
The calf rescue pose/scene is awesome. Tells a story all by itself.
If they were in the Outback, they might have to rescue platypuses. Just sayin'.
Hah hah hah... now maybe I have to buy the platypus.....
I really tried with Daz sheep but I just don’t think I can do anything with him. Here’s my two my attempts with it.
I think the sheep turned out really well. The more sepia toned one does help hide the limitations of the sheep's coat and really looks natural.
I thnk the sheep looks good, too. It was recently shorn.
Hah hah! Well, I tried different things to make the sheep look less flat. I tried tweaking its BMP, then I tried doing a softer focus, no luck, I took it into photoshop and painted curls on it. I even tried making it black. -Nothing work. I even used fur shaders on it, and turned it into a chia pet!
There is nothing wrong with the base shape- I want to say. Just that its textures are very flat. Since its white, too it has a tendency to blow out.
The DA package also adds bump, specular and normal maps, as well as a white horse variant. (For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture -- because I don't remember, honestly -- I have both options. I think, though I will not swear to it, that the IDG package came into the store as a holiday freebie at first, then it left, then it came backa s a commercial package. The DA product was always commercial, I think.) I don't know if the IDG package adds normal textures, though I'd be surprised if it doesn't.
Thanks! I appreciate the update. The IDG package really helps make Horse 2 look so much better. I may get the DA package at some point and do a comparison.
There are some things Boyd does not do well.... Tying a tie is one of them. Fortunately, Owen is a pro. I'm not sure if Owen is helping him take it off or put it on though. =-) . I made the pose just for fun as I like tying tie poses. Unfortunately, there is a lack of ties to make stretch, and move in a believable way.
I realized that I had never rendered Casual Craze outfit. I had tried it once, found the suspenders went all strange and stopped. But, when I saw the texture expansion in the store I thought, it looked sort of cool. So Owen gets to wear it. For some reason, it rendered really light for me, so I added a brown color to the outfit to stop it from burning out. Its still very white, almost as papery white as Owen.
Boyd is wearing mostly female things. He has on the tie for G8F by Uzilite V801. He's wearing a woman's top from rendo by Serzart since I love the way it fits. It tucks well into pants. I wanted to put something in Boyd's right hand, but couldn't find a good prop. Like another tie-d-forced, but ran out of time. I will find one for the next time I use the pose.
Boyd takes his turn adjusting Owen's bow tie. Yeah, I ditched the hat. I will have to redo Owen's entry.
I tend to like my characters hatless and that hat looked a bit odd Owen... I agree...
Boyd likes to live dangerously. As illustrated by this specific pose. This is not the worst of his food-related offenses though. He also drinks whipped cream from the can, and sneaks food off Owen's plate to taste.
I've been wanting to use Maclean's grocery set for sometime for food-specific poses. So here is my chance. Since its my day off.
I am looking for a milk carton that opens though. If you see a prop that has this morph let me know. I may at last have a use for the Deviney's milk brushes and layer styles....
You can make the sheep fluffier by increasing the displacement and subD on the skin surface. This is Displacement strength 1, min displacement 0, max displacement 3, surface subD 2. Higher SubD makes a more detailed texture. Depending on lighting, you might need to fiddle with other settings to avoid the white textures from blowing out, as you mentioned. It still doesn't look very real, but it is a little better I think.
That’s an improvement for sure. Thanks. At least the fur isn’t flat. I may rerender tonight and see how the settings look.
I used the wooly texture preset as the starting point.
Weirdly, I think my sheep looks smoother... I had a pretty heavy BMP before. Does this look better? (Ignore the hat, I haven't done any phtoshop on hair pokethrough).
I think the fur looks good and somewhat matted like you'd expect. At least they were somewhat matted when I was asked to shear them.
It does look better. I wonder why you didn't get the same results. Did you start with the wooly texture? If you used the other one, it probably has a less dramatic displacement map. It looks good like that, though.
