Excellent work on the lighting and I like her more buff. Speaking of shaders, it's funny to buy skimpwear (and I mean the REALLY skimp skimpwear) to see if shaders can be applied to some of the open areas to close it up. I haven't used the Supersuit in awhile, great reminder. Tori eh- will have to try her sometime. Good tip!

I admit, Tori's skin is one of my favorites skins. It has a very graphic-novel-esque appeal especially that one makeup and the dark eyes render well too. It lights well. I hope we manage to get V5/V6 skins working on Gen 7 so I can use some of my favorite skins.

Supersuit is one of my favorite packages for shaders. I don't tend to use it for superheroes but the shaders are very good. It has everything. I especially like the Supersuit Heavy Hitters, and the new Metallics one. Great shaders in those sets.

Here are a couple of pictures of Tori's skin for V5 applied to Victoria 6. I don't really use female gen 5 characters any longer, but I do like some skins. This is one of them.

Rendered in a bikini- quickly so you can see the skins.

She renders well too and has cute freckles. Also... A belly ring!

Okay, haven't done a Sarge image in a while. This one was fun. Some highlights: I really liked the headpiece in Code 246, which autofits nicely to gen 2 male. That outfit is showing 50% off right now, so if you like it, now is the time to buy. The location is Digivault's Hard Target which I haven't yet had a chance to use yet, but looks great so far.. One thing I like about Digivault's stuff, is you get detail, without it taking a super long time to render. The robots are cybermech4.1 which are quite highly detailed and look nice by dzfire. And the Little flying bots are an Easter egg in Interceptor set which I had no idea existed until I was looking at the promo art the other day. The little robots are inside bike's hatch. They are unfortunately attached to the bike, but you can remove them, by using the pixel editor.

Although sci fi is most challenging for me, I'm a Sci fi fan, all renders on this thread are fabulous, great job ;-).

Okay, here is another Sarge render. I like doing winter scenes for some reason. The challenge is the snow just is tough because feet would sink in, especially those with heavy armor on. Portraying that when the models are solid is a bit challenging. I think I need to buy Flipmode's new winter set, since there are some convincing foot holes in the set.

With this I added a smooth later using topaz, and used the screen filter to merge the two together. This gave a sort of more comic-book style render to the characters.

If you don't have Arcadia Rising the shaders that come with that set are wonderful. I used it to give a reflection to Sarge's winter armor.

Okay I was curious how long it would take me to render the latest edition to the Victoria Family.

For the renders I used my standard lights. The same hair, pose and accessories.

    Image 1: Victoria 7: 04 Min 49
    Image 2: Base Female Gen 3 02 Min 29
    Image 3: Victoria 7 Adaline 16 Min 12
    Image 4: Victoria 7 Summer 18 Min 39

I was surprised how slow Summer was to render, although I do like the results.

Interestingly, Victoria 6 renders just a hair faster than Victoria 7 at 04 Minutes 46 seconds.

The snow looks good- the dusty, light kind. The only thing I don't like with most snow is the really rounded, almost inverted triangle snows coming off the branches. I'm originally from Indianapolis (go Hoosiers! No underinflated balls...) so I do know snow and it has a variety of shapes. Some of those hanging from branches snow look redundant and frankly severely spikey to me. Snow builds on TOP of the branches, I'm having a hard time finding a photo of that much snow hanging BELOW the branches. It falls! It would take a severe ice storm to freeze snow into place like that IMO. I went through three pages of Google images and found nothing like these underneath snow mounds!

LOL. I never would've thought of the snow problem. It has been years since I've seen any real snow. Think of it as..... Cool whip ? Or perhaps snow on this planet that Sarge is on behaves differently... Because there is less gravity... Except... Hmm... Maybe the bushes would be extra tall then. Oh Well... The snow came with the model I'm sticking with that as as the explanation for that anomoly. =-)

Up next, I wanted to do some terminator fanart because, the terminator is pretty darn awesome. Here's a draft, but I could use some expended rounds for the mini gun. Anyone seen any? Oh and a modern sawed off shotgun would not be amiss. Yeah, I should've kicked myself for not picking up DZfire's Cyborg model 4 just about now. HAh.

oh, have to mention how much I love this outfit by Yura. Definitely gold here. Only wish for some rounds to the gun.

Here, we are getting closer to what I want with this. But I will likely re-work the exploding effect on Terminator's back. You can see how the point lights added accents to what I wanted to highlight on Terminator's face.

Okay, here I've found some ammo, and cribbed some from the antfarm M180 for the rounds for the mini9gun. I've also added some brushed metal shaders to the Robots, and altered the sparks and flame that weren't so flat and orange.

I may have gone as far as I can with this, but will try to perhaps do something with the robot optics. I did try before but found them a touch distracting although I have given them a red color.

I have tried adding some blur to the gun barrel, but, there are no moving parts as far as I can tell, and it is too difficult to get a fully Gatling-style effect going without the ability to blur the front section all the way down to the barrel clamps.

If you prefer one image or the other more, let me know. =-)

This second version has a more realistic explosion and you can see the bots more clearly which to me is a good thing, though the slightly larger muzzle blast for the distant bot is a nicer graphic. I think the red vision enhancement on the bots is a good idea. It's the small details that add to the production value of the image.

Thanks Firstbastion! I will see what I can do about the muzzle flash in the back. Sadly, there are so many muzzle flash images from the side- but very few from the front! I will look around and see what I can dig up.

I also received a suggestion that there is a wide variety of bullets included in: http://www.daz3d.com/the-armory

So if anyone else is looking there you are.....

Okay, the forums are... Different. Here is the latest one. I lightened it some, added more smoke, fixed the color section on Terminator's pants, and adjusted the size of the muzzle flashes, and added some glow to the red emergency light in the back.

Ugh. Well, one bad thing about these little attachment do-hickeys is this: how are we going to show side by side comparisons? I guess we'll have to do a composite in a graphics program and group the images together first.

I like the sparks flying on the one, the orange glow on the shoulder face of another..it's hard to say. Each one has different elements which appeal to me.

There is a very good tutorial on battle scenes called Epic Battle Details available on Composite Planet. It is a bit pricey, but worth it to me, since it shows you some great tricks to use with your Photoshop layers to make your scene more real. For fun, I will try some of the effects I have learned on the image above.

Also, I was pleased to hear that Deviney's set Ron's War Elements was being reworked with some even better PSD files. I hope we see that soon. =-)

Okay, today, was a great day. Managed to pick up some items by DZFire I don't currently own. (Yes there are a few), in addition to Yura's new soldier, and the two awesome weapons sets. Can't wait to have fun with those! =-)

This is a fun little test scene. I'm working on postwork and layering techniques. Novica requested a picture of Lazarus for M4 so I put the character in the lower left after gen Xing him over to Gen 2 Male.

One thing I really like is the Arcadia Rising outfit. Such a great set. Excellent shaders... And shocker- Looks pretty good On Gen 2 Male. Will have to try a closeup on a male figure after I am done messing around. smiley

I've been scouting for some good muzzle flash imagry, because making them especially from the front is a bit of a challenge. If you are looking for some images to use for your muzzle flashes and don't want to make from scratch. Detonation Films has a reasonably priced pack in png to be included in your commercial art. He does the photos from front and side, so you aren't limited to simply one perspective.. they are designed for film, but can be used in your photo editing program, and include rifle, pistol, heavy weaponry etc. Check it out.

The video I mentioned above had an interesting tutorial on making a muzzle flash, amongst lots of really great postwork goodness.  The gist of it was in postwork to create a layer of your figure with the pistol and a layer behind so you could postwork the flash effect to look like it was coming from the gun rather than simply on top of the gun or over the muzzle which is fairly typical of what you might do if you had only a single render. By rendering the top layer as the  figure as a  png with a transparent background, you could layer the figure and the firearm where you want, and give the illusion that the gun was in fact lit by the light of the muzzle and that the gun itself was emitting the light.

so in image 1, I rendered the figure as is, so you could see what the image was like without the light effects.

In image 2, you can see that I added light to the gun's laser as well as the scope, and lit the whole laser up with a nice overlay to give it a soft beam effect.

I should mention that Chace hair for gen 2 female looks pretty nice on male characters, and was worth the investment. I also really like Gun Gr15. I love the laser sight adjustment. It fits pretty  well on male characters as well with a few minor adjustments and the laser effect can be altered with any glow shader to change it's color- so this weapon isn't only for gen 3 female. It is a great purchase, and I would certainly recommend picking it up.

That really makes a difference. I know this is a funny thing to notice, but I like the blue glow on his thumb and the way the lighting stops at his bent knuckles. It helps to highlight the front part of his fingers which are holding the weapon. I wasn't sure if I would like that gun (seemed a bit clunky) but it does look good. I hadn't seen that hair on males and agreed- looks very, very good.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,647

The gun looks good and functional in the typical gun shades. I like the laser. The blue light you like is the result of a judiciously placed point light. I wanted to lighten that area up a bit.  =-)

I have always liked films with giant ants. Kind of a sci-fi staple. This is Antfarm's An-Terra or An Terra. I wanted to test out some brushwork on this image.

Nice!  Serene, do you know what settings you had on the Chace hair?  I tried, but couldn't get it to look like that.

@ Chris: Sorry, notifications appear to be have been turned off for me on this thread. So I didn't notice your comment until now.

This was was rendered in 3delight. The hair is the shade of black, It has a blue point light to the left . Otherwise the hair is default as applied out of the box. Lights are done with either incubus or sebastian character lights by FW art, I don't recall which.

    Glad you like it. =-)

@ Novica: That outfit is actually the lorez 14 MU worker. Very useful
