This pose came from the school girl pose set with the bike. I made the bike a man's bike by putting a cylinder Primitive on the cross frame and erasing the female bar. The HDRI came from HDRI haven and it is a scene from Oxford.
Here, I dialed in some more (?) musculature on Owen and Boyd and set subdivision to 3 so they could be seen, courtesy of Auto Muscle Enhancer. I also tested out one of the surfer poses for G8F recently released- turned out pretty good.
Caspian for Valentino is thus so far my favorite character. He has a nice rich skin tone, full body hair (including elements), and some really nice eyebrows.
I had some trouble with the armpit hair. It sort of renders off the side of his arm in the white space. For the sake of this render I removed it.
Kennen has a nice mid tone skin tone, a very youthful body, and a lined older looking face. The head for me, doesn't really work so well.... It's a bit big, and it strangely oversized on the slim youthful body. At default the character loads with a head prop of 1.4.
Renshaw loads with another larger-sized head. His eyes are high on his face which give him a more stylized look compared to the others. You can shrink the head and lower the eyes for a less stylized appearence which I prefer. One thing I should mention is he rendered with reddish nostrils. Overall, I like the figure, and the skin is nice.
Original Renshaw is on the left. Smaller head, and lower eyes Renshaw is on the right.
Romeo HD is so far, my new favorite in the set. He has normalized proportions, nice maps (except for a bit of odd darkness near his lips), and I love the anchor tattoo. He is fit, and would make a nice marine. In addition to this, the character includes some skin options including pox, wind blow skin, and facial hair. There does appear to be some (baked in?) hair on his legs which I think is fairly noticible. I'm not sure if that is particularly enhanced by my chosen blown out lighting.
And at last Valentino. Not much to say about the character. His body is not particularly remarkable, his head is a bit oversized and while there is nothing wrong with the shape, it overall looks a bit ordinary to me. The skin however is excellent. Racially, he could come from many different countries, so in that respect he is useful. I just wish he were more distinctive in terms of shape. There is nothing here that stands out in particular for me.
I think Genesis 8 has been a big win for DAZ 3D starting about the time they did the Ollie 8 & Edie 8 Pro Bundles. I don't know their sales figures but I like the choices available.
Sure, people like to collect gen 8 figures. I'm personally not interested in figures that I can dial-spin myself though. And I'm in the minority though, and am not really into Ollie and Edie.
The armpit hair thing is an issue that Hinkypunk has had with a few of her characters. The issue, as I understand it, is that the strand hair needs to be converted to dForce hair, which in turn will make it into a figure that fits properly. She had to go back and redo that with Kalen, which I reported as an error.
Which of these new characters absolutely require Valentino? Debating whether to get the Pro Bundle or just pick up the most useful/appealing parts. Funds are still tight, even with my more generous than usual tax refund.
I looked. I am going to say that the majority of these characters look better without Valentino. Sad I know, but I think Valentino is sort of a neutral influence. His face is baby-faced enough that any character could be blended in. His body ads a protuberant belly/abs region and he gets a bigger head, and rounder baby-face. But... I'm not a fan of Val's basic shape.
I'm tired of messed up male pro bundles. This is clearly not adequately tested.
Have you tried MIke1954 armpit hair? It's over at cgbytes and has a number of options and a variety of shaping morphs.
No, I'll check it out. Armpit hair is hard to do well, I gather.
Jepe's Roderick has SBH armpit hair.
You can comb/style it in SBH editor if you dont like how it is on autoload. Or just make your own in SBH from scratch, but who has the time.
I think Owen shaves his pits. he shaves most everything. I'm not sure boyd's blonde pits are worth displaying but I will try Roderick's hair and see how it works.
I'm a little late on this, but I love the PoV and how you placed the figures.
Between that, the wrong textures applying to the Naval jacket buttons, the eye morph dialed in for all G8 male figures...It's disappointing.
Aww thanks!!!
Yeah, not a fan of the bugs. I will add the wonky armpit hair to the bug list!
Okay, well, the Catholic priest robe was on sale, and I was curious how the boys would look in it! Perhaps an undercover job would have them use this as a disguise. Neither Owen or Boyd are religious and religion in the future is much different, but I think Owen might be able to fake it, given that Grandad was raised in a catholic orphanage.
The set is dforce, and needs it to look proper when the character moves. For some reason, the buttons did distor on Boy'ds chest during dforce. But not on Owen's. Go figure. Overall, nice set. Looks realistic and has a good flowing robe quality.
Dzheng released a nice expansion to his Jumpsuit, which adds some fun morphs to his thermal underwear set. Now if I could just convince him to make full-on longjohns/union suit, complete with flap! All the buttons open one by one! This I think was a neat idea.
Well ... can you show what you were talking about?
I finally picked up the guys from the bundle, and downloaded and installed. Caspian's armpit hair looks fine to me. The hair seems to be properly defined as a figure, and not simply as strand hair. I tried moving him around, and the armpit hair didn't do that thing that Kalen's armpit hair did, where it detached itself and went zooming across the workspace in front of him. This seems to be properly attached and in the right place. About the only objection I would have -- and I would say this about all Caspian's (and Kalen's and Levi's) body hair -- is that it's too long.
It may be that they fixed it in between when you said something and when I downloaded, since I was pretty late to the party this time.
It is possible. It was looking like this:
The new Long Wet Hair with dforce is quite a fun style. It dforces rather nicely all things considered. My ony peeve, is the blonde is pretty dark. I had difficulty matching Boyd's strawberry blonde, because it all had roots. It recolored nicely though.
I then decided I wanted to make a sand castle. I looked in my library but didn't have any castles to shade as sand....when I realized I had this freebie 'bucket list' Which includes sand for the bucket which you can flip upside down to make a castle. I recolored it, grouped 4 together and voila
Good to know, looks interesting.
I use Jepe's Bodyhair Geoshell, the armpits are hit or miss depending on the pose.
I mentioned earlier, Jepe's Roderick comes with armpit hair that is SBH (plus a whole host of other SBH body hair presets)
Would you mind posting a test render or two? I have little interested in the character himself and I wonder whether it' worth getting him for the armpit hair alone...
Here you go. Inset shows list of SBH items you get (i think these are all of them...)
You can change colour in surface settings, and change opacity if you want less intense. With SBH you have the option to comb/style them if you feel so inclined.
Oh wow, it looks really good!
