agreed on both counts. dforce Corporate Does look a bit gappy from the side. Looks good from the front. I wonder if an addditional hair cap might work.
It has a hair cap, but the surface is set to a high refraction value. Maybe try setting that lower???
I'll check it out tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.
That's very dynamic.
I don't know if you've had a chance to take the rest of the Jonathan 8 bundle out for a test drive yet, but I have some time this weekend and I'm going through everything since I got burned on the Landon 8 bundle.
The Iron Wasp suit looked like fun, but when I place it on a default Michael 8 (a supported shape) and his arms are near his torso, the material on the inner arms and the torso sinks into the figure. I had to raise his arms almost to the point of being horizontal to the ground to get it to disappear. Morphs don't really address this issue. Yes, I can fix it in post. Yes, I can try to use morph grabber to fix it. But I wish this simply worked out of the box.
Now the promos with the weird arm/chest poses make sense.
Iron Wasp top loads with smoothing off by default, for some reason. Mind, smoothing doesn't get rid of the issue completely at its default setting, but it helps. I had to turn smoothing and collision up to 9 and 13 respectively, and use the top's Expand All morph up to 33% to make the issue disappear. (On Kai. The scrawny guy in the bundle. OK, then.)
I wish I understood why quality is getting so incredibly slipshod. It's one thing to be in the end days/months of the generation (one can but assume) and be trying to shove as much stuff out the door as fast as possible, but letting quality slide this far is going to screw their reputation. About the only thing that's making this work is that they're almost the only place in town to get this stuff. And if they blow up their reputation shoving Genesis 8 stuff out, Genesis 9 is going to be a very hard sell whenever it comes out.
Also, kind of baffled as to how that is even possible.
Also, kind of baffled as to how that group of people produced an item with that issue. Bobbie25, Moonscape Graphics and Sade do better work than that normally.
@ Phoenix1966 We all felt burned by the Dain 8 Pro Bundle. What burned you about the Landon 8 Pro Bundle? I don't have it, and I'd like to know what to avoid or watch out for.
I haven't tested the rest of the Jonathan bundle as of yet. I've tested two hairs, and the tux. I... Will check that set out. I must say that is disappointing. body suits are usually easy to make.
And just to make things more fun, it turns out that Kai has a texture issue. In this case, I know it's not his default shader settings because I changed them, and I know his face and torso are using the same settings. The issue shows up with his default load, but much less strongly.
EDIT: And I just figured out what the issue is. His default load wasn't put together correctly. He has actual SSS maps, but for whatever reason, his diffuse/base face map was put into the SSS slot instead of his SSS face map. Simple error with a simple fix. It would have been hard to catch in QA.
I don't own Kai to check, but did you verify that all image maps are using the correct gamma setting? That has also been a problem in the past.
After seeing Phoenix1966 post decided to see how bad it was. Pretty disappointed. This is default I looked at the smoothing and it was turned on in both surfaces and parameters but I did not see anywhere to set collisions? (something new to learn) I did Darius 8 and then dialed him out completely leaving me with default G8M and it was worse!
@barbult, I picked up Landon either the day of or the day after its release. I tried out the Alpha Team outfit right away because it was something I wanted to use. The shirt has a odd seam down the middle of the front and if anyone other than the default G8 male wears it, there is stretching and a weird pattern that appears.
Well, I took a look at the files and the problem is with the normal and height maps for it. So I documented all this, including renders of the shirt on various morphs, and submitted a ticket the next day. The problem shouldn't have been difficult to fix (and it extends to the add-on texture set because they share some of the same normals/height maps). I could have done it myself. But part of why I buy content is to have stuff that works out the gate correctly. I also know the PAs would fix this quickly if they knew of the error. But I am also a PA and part of the broker fees we pay tp Daz is to have CS deal with this stuff, so I filed the ticket instead.
So I waited. After about a month, I pinged them again to see where they were on a fix and was told it hadn't been addressed yet. Then, two weeks ago I realized it had been ONE YEAR since I submitted the ticket (it was my oldest outstanding ticket). I decided it wasn't unreasonable to ask them again where anybody was on this. CS told me they'd ask QA again about it. And when they got back to me last week? They said there were no plans to fix this.
Over a year later, well past the thirty day return window and I now have broken content that I know Daz doesn't care about fixing.
Thanks, that looks familiar. I probably read your message at the time. If you reported the product error before the 30 days was up (and it certainly sounds like you did), I would ask for a refund anyway.. See what their response is.
Sorry, there was a crosspost with the edit. He had a misplaced map in his default load. It was using the diffuse face map in the translucency color slot instead of the SSS map that actually is present. Swapping that out fixed the issue. I suppose i should file a ticket, since it would be a simple fix, but ... well. See below.
Click on the Iron Wasp top in the scene tab, then over in the parameters, there's an option called Mesh Smoothing where smoothing and collision are set.
That one almost -- almost -- surprises me, only because I actually remember Daz_Steve popping into the thread and flat out saying that it would be fixed.
"Almost", because I've filed tickets about a couple of regressions to Studio itself, and jumped through the zillion hoops they made me go through to document it, finally got the front line people to agree that it was a regression and hand it to the developers to fix, only to have the developers basically say, "... We don' wanna. Not going to happen."
Armpits is the most common problem I have with G8M too.
I did mention to them that I kept the product in good faith that it would be fixed and therefore missed the 30 day cutoff. CS refunded me for the bundle and the add-ons, but I was so genuinely disappointed in QA (and Daz by default) for not wanting to fix it knowing that it is defective and happily continuing to offer it for sale in the store.
Well, I'm glad that at least you got your money back.
I don't have the smoothing options for that outfit? I even deleted and reloaded to make sure. So then I loaded another outfit to make sure I was looking in the right place and it was there, listed under Mesh Resolution.
That and how many people actually return the bundles? I bet it is a low number, not because they are happy with the product but most of us get it on discount so if to return and just buy what you wanted you pay just as much if not more then the bundle price then why would I do that? I don't, yes, I am upset because the outfit doesnt work right, but I didn't buy the bundle for the outfits. to me they were just bonus content.
Thank you nemesis10! I knew it was probably something easy I was missing!!
Owen provokes this guard in an attempt to distract him from Boyd. Boyd is none-to-pleased.
How did you color mask to so cleanly deliniate between the red & blue light on the ceiling?
Sheer luck. Behind Boyd's head, and the guards, there are two security cameras both with lens. I colored them red. The roof light was colored blue. It just worked out that way.
On the subject of women's clothing/bits for men, this is Itsy hair. https://www.daz3d.com/itsy-hair-for-genesis-8-and-genesis-3-females
To be fair, Boyd makes most things look good.
That works good on him.
I am trying, using the SBH Editor & PS Elements 9, to color some cat fur a deep cream blond color, like a Siamese Cat, but it's always turning out much too dark colored when rendered.
On the subject of Men's new releases, we have Dzheng's latest release FaZhion07 Gatsby, included are pants, shoes, vest, and a scarf. There is also a beanie, but, It didn't work well in this image.
I like the set, it conforms nicely to the male figure, the shoes look realistic, and the vest is nice. It is short on the midrift area.
Next up on the men's clothing scene are these useful S3D Casual Sneakers for G8M. The tennis shoes come in 3 colors, have a lot of detail (as you can see by this closeup), and are reasonable texture size at 2k. There is an included foot pose. Given the stunning lack of detail on a lot of men's tennis shoes, I hope people will purchase this product to show support for men's content that is made correctly.
So, someone in the Jonathan thread was commenting about using the Tuxedo for Genesis 2 male on G8M. I never had much luck using that using autofit, but I took it out to play, and tweak. First I converted it using the clothing converter. I think the conversion for the suit went better than most I've tried. The shirt I thought was rather dull, so I opened up the suit (the shirt and pants are one piece), and pasted the texture of the Groom shirt onto the shirt for the Tuxedo to give it some details. It was a rough retexturing, but I thought the results looked good. I still had some trouble with the suit, primarily the hem of the jacket clipping Boyd's thighs. The included adjustments didn't do much, so I fit controlled the pants and shirt. I played with the fit, until I got this. I could reduce the s houlder pads further, but a suit like this will have a squared off look, and this is the closest I could get.
I then adde some more gray to the shirt to texture it. The shoes I just didn't like they were 1980's pointy, so I took them off, and just added the ones from the groom set. If I find nicer ones, I'll switch them out.
I also opted to replace the Tuxedo's tie with the classic tuxedo tie, which didn't distort as much.
