Someone tell me again, where it is you can find your last render if one happens to accidentally close daz without saving said render?

Try looking in the yourname/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/Studio4/temp/render folder. Appdata is a hidden directory so you may need to tell file explorer to show hidden files to see it.

You can specify where to have your DAZ Temp folder, so whilst it is very likely it will be there, it may not be!  You can find where it is by lookin Preferences, under the General tab, toward the bottom.

Judging by the extension of the gift card sale, I'm guessing DAZ had sales numbers they failed to hit this month. :)

I personally don't think this setup of keeping new releases at 30% or 40% and lowering the price of featured stores when you buy one (or MORE) of those new releases is working for them. For example- Why would I pay for two new releases to get 60% or less off a store? With what you have to spend, that may not make sense. Particularly if there isn't any low priced new releases.  Unless you really need the two items, of course.

Edit- today is 40% off the stores with TWO new releases required, to get an extra 20%. That means:

Paying 60% (40% off)  x 80% (20% off and paying 80%) =48% paying, or 52% off. So not even 60% off. You'll have to spend a minimum of $19.20 (two cheapest products, the shelves and gothic outfit textures)

On a different topic: there are new figures coming up (Girl, etc) so if you're going to buy those, it makes sense to get a gift card today.

I've had days where the buy-in was two new items at 30% and nothing in my wishlist that was reduced. Not much of an incentive to buy new stuff right away.

For me it's reached the point where it needs to be real cheap or something that's really different just do to the fact that I've got so much content and can't find anything without hours of searching and that's if I remember the name correctly

@zombietaggerung  It's under File>Save Last Render but I'm not sure if that works after the studio is closed and re-opened.

Thank you both, That's where it was. :)

I have recently bought Fun with yarn - classic crochet

which is in Fast grab and used it to texture Lara's nightgown and the bed. I think there is a great selection of crochet textures in this set of textures.

I own the first but not the second. I also own another at rendo that has christmassy Nordic kind of sweater patterns I like a lot since it’s useful for winter outfits and the patterns are reflecting of my cultural heritage. All of them work fine and produce a nice textured result. I can’t see much difference and you should be happy with either.

I'm with Novica on this - I don't know whether this strategy is or isn't working for Daz's sales quotas :) but it really doesn't work for me, and I seriously doubt I'm alone in this sentiment:  discounting the Featured Artist Catalogs is okay, but having to buy 2 or more NEW RELEASES to get a steeper discount rarely moves me to buy.

The biggest problem is that some days there may only be a small number of new releases, which means the likelihood that there'll be even 1 I really want to buy is already low enough, but then to have to buy 2?!   I'm seldom, almost never, these days going to buy female (characters, textures, poses, morphs, outfits--excepting those rare few I want part of to put on a guy) stuff, I'm not likely to buy another male outfit that looks like the 2 dozen already on the market (T-shirt and bad jeans outfits, I'm giving you the stink eye, but you're not the only sinners!) or likely to buy another bland airbrush-colored male character with mannequin ears, arms and hands, or male poses that look about the same as half-dozen other, or another generic warehouse that doesn't offer anything distinctive or better than the several warehouses on the market I already have and so on and so on

For me and those like me with a bunch of content already and/or specific tastes for their purchases, having to buy 2 new releases for ANY KIND of EXTRA DISCOUNT is very difficult more days than not-- and to do so for discounts on back-catalog (which go on various sales anyway, on a regular basis, between Flash sales, MM, PAFest, Xmas sales etc) is not a very compelling motivator; Buying 2 new releases to get a better discount on the new releases would be more effective for me at least, but even that is still hamstrung by the fact that most days I'm lucky to even want 1 new release at the introductory price.

What makes a new release desirable for me at the intro is when a product looks distinctive and well done and imaginative and fresh, so that I'm slavering to get it asap, but too few new releases these days really stand out like this for me.  So much derivative, repetitive stuff for me kills the buy urge, and to me, this seems like a problem that pricing strategies won't ever entirely solve. I think Daz needs to look at content with the same attitude that they view figure and rendering technology: that pushing the  envelope (in the case of content, this means more imagination, inspiration and quality) helps drive growth.   Okay, that's my twopenny rantie for today. :)

Anyone bought that new release: EASY ENVIRONMENTS: CLOUDS?  Can you place objects IN and BELOW/THROUGH the clouds or are the clouds just part of the environment??   It'd be so cool to have things (ships, skydivers, planes cloud city of Bespin, whatever!)  breaking through the clouds or half-shrouded in the clouds.... but I realized that in EVERY PROMO IMAGE the objects added were ABOVE the clouds, which made me wonder about it.   Anyone know yet?

The short answer is no, not really.  Its a physical dome so its not really a prop.  The easiest way to do what you want is to use Stonemasons Clouds with this Environment and it will give you what you are looking for.

In case you didn't see this freebie (from back in April) it's a splash from Tako Yakida and it renders quite nicely (I tested it in the viewport.) Comes in quite large, I was expecting a little piddly puddle splash. Has a lot of possibilities. Easy to download and install as it goes into Props.

I have Splash and I've forgetten to use it. Thank you for reminding me @Novica :-)

I posted this one on DigiDotz's Freebie thread as a thank you for all the wonderful freebies. I'd been collecting them but not used them yet, so I thought I'd do a render to try them out.

This is Salem for Aiko 8, with Bronwyn Hair for Genesis 3 & 8 and wearing heels from the Beautiful Shoes Collectio for Genesis 8 Females(s). I'd have used shoes from DigiDotz for the render but I'm hopeless at transfering shoes between generations. For the render I used the following freebies from @DigiDotz, 'Dress for G8F', LIE Stockings for Genesis 8 female and the very first prop in the thread, the leather pouffe prop. The outfits and the prop come with a range of iray shaders. As you can see they are excellent! The dress has dForced used on it :-)

It's well worth looking at the thread, DigiDotz has some amazing props and clothes. The latest one is clouds.

THANK YOU so much for trying it out to see, IceDragon!  It's tempting, as I do have the Stonemason cloud product... ;)

Ugh! I've been wanting Romi for G3F for what seems like years so I bought it and except for the skirt & underskirt the fit for the clothing and jewelry items for Romi on G8F is a disaster. This is supposed to be the most compatible Genesis iteration ever!

I converted all the Romi pieces to G8F using the method SickleYield posted in her DA journal. I did this several months ago, and I don't remember all the details of what I did. I think I might have had to tweak the necklace with Blender. But that might have been just to fit Alexandra. Character morphs destroy that necklace and the bracelets pretty badly, but I imagine they would do the same thing with the G3F version on G3F characters. I added dForce to the wardrobe items and it works pretty well. I never could get the shawl to work decently. Here is a pretty challenging pose I did with Dorothea for Edie 8 and Romi with one of the add-on texture sets. The stairs are a recent PC+ freebie.

I'm just stunned by the new Aeon Soul "Helix" outfits. So many options, really amazing. I just wish it fitted in to the kind of stuff that I do. I did smile at this image though:

If he's behind her in the queue, I hope he's willing/able to wait. How does she take that outfit off to do what she needs to do through one of those doors? Good job neither of them seem to be in a hurry.

I second the being stunned by the outfit.

How she takes it off? Magnetic closings along the seams. It is futuristic after all...

I’m not sure I understand the excitement about the aeon soul outfit. It has nice textures but it’s like a short leotard with like a ton of textures sold in multiple packs ?  It is a nice basic but expensive... the angle of the cut of the thighs seems  improbable as it would roll and how many textures for such a basic item do you need. 3 sets seems a bit much.

The main selling point seems to be the geografted zippers and the idea of getting an Aeon Soul-modelled modesty layer to go with their other stuff, which often involves bare thighs or midriff. Metric crapton of detailed textures in an attempt to expand the usefulness of a fairly simple outfit is something they do from time to fime (Neo Ayane being the other example that comes to mind). I don't own a lot of their stuff, but it tends to float in and out of my cart during major sales, so I've taken a long, hard look at their handiwork at different times :)

For me it's the suffocating neck. Way too high. She wouldn't be able to bend her neck without chaffing. I definitely would be material-zoning inches of that to opague it out. It just looks downright uncomfortable and reminds me of those villages where women wear those metal rings/bands stacked on their necks to stretch them to awful proportions. I do like @chris-2599934  render though, particularly the muted lighting on an onboard scifi vessel.

This is a really cool technology feature, and I hadn't seen it before. The Hawaii lava as shown in 360 degrees as a video- not stills. What you do- if at first you can't click and drag (it hung up on me the first time) once the video gets started, pause it. You'll be able to click and hold your mouse and swing in 360 degree panoramic view. Then click again to start it and from then on, you can do the panoramic, and the scene changes as the video changes, with you constantly being able to see all around. Wow.

how many textures for such a basic item do you need. 3 sets seems a bit much.

One of their main selling points is how you can mix and match between their various sets. The different textures are coordinating styles to go with their other items, for example "Helix Tau Outfit" is meant to match the various "Tau Ceti" products.

I will try the same but I think that first I will try stripping the rigging as obj and then re-rig for Genesis 8 Female. It will be good learning.

OK, here is a render using Collective 3D's Neighborhood Block 1. I have to say I really like it and their other models. While pieces of it aren't quite up to realistic enough to do closeups of the neighborhood, it is great for mixtures of 'toon' and 'realistic' for a coherrant style.
