Oh, fun idea to show our pets! So much cuteness and great stories!

As a child, I had black cockapoo that grew up to be HUGE and started humping all my mother's friends when they came to visit so she gave him away to one of them. Wait, that sounded weird. The woman did not take the dog because he was humping her LOL. Anyway, I was devistated! Then we got a small black purebred poodle, offspring of her friend's poodle (never a puppy mill!) who we had through the rest of my childhood. And then after college, I turned into a cat person! One cat a time though, living in an apartment in L.A. I'm with my second cat, Griffin now. Both were gotten at shelters and were sick and would have been euthanized but I was easily able to nurse them back to health and I was told cats bond extra strongly with owners who stop them from being sick, which is true as they both follow/followed me around the house wherever I go! My current cat might even be a Bengal, an expensive designer cat, he has all the markings and personality traits but I just love him for being him. This is my Griffin, the king of my jungle heart

    First is his headshot

    And now the action shot

I LOVE seeing pics of people's pets. :) @Firewarden, poodles are fantastic! I had one when I was a teen - he was very protective of me and wouldn't leave my side. Loved that dog. @Shadowhawk1, your boxers are gorgeous! sometimes i think our boy has boxer in him - he likes to jump straight up in the air - but not too sure.

So we have 3 companions - Woody (Woodrow Wilson Pig) is a small brown terror. He's a shih tzu/daschund cross. He's about 7 years old - we got him as a pup just before we got married. He loves cuddles and is an absolute houdini. We are forever trying to keep him contained behind the fence. He's a roamer - loves to go up and down the street unfortunately. He can be a grumpy ol' thing sometimes, and he thinks his "little" brother Donk is the biggest waste of space in the world. LOL. (click on all pics to see larger)

(btw, that's my husband's toe in the second pic - not mine LOL) That's Woody enjoying a day out in the boat.

Then there's Donk (Sir Donklebean Donklewurth). He's not quite 2 years old. He's a Mastiff x something or other. LOL. His father had staffy in him, and possibly boxer - no idea. Donk is my baby. He was about 6 weeks old when we got him, and he slept in a little bed on the floor on my side of the bed. I was the one who he would wake up during the night to take him outside to pee. And many a time I would lie back in the recliner afterwards, and he would fall asleep on my chest. My husband called them "mummy boobie cuddles" and even at 65+ pounds, Donk still wants his "mummy boobie cuddles". When I go to bed, he is there with me, and he's not happy unless he's sleepign with his head on my feet or legs or hip. He has to be cuddled up alongside me and touching me, for him to be happy. :) We actually bought a second hand 3 seater couch (instead of our two recliners) just so he could curl up with us when we are watching movies. LOL. (We need a bigger couch now tho). he's a definite lapdog, despite his size. Donk is the happiest, sweetest dog I've EVER had. He loves EVERYBODY and he loves every dog he meets. For some reason, little old ladies just adore him - they are forever stopping us when we are walking him to give him a cuddle. LOL. And there are still lots of people who give us a wide berth cos he looks like a "mean" dog - but boy o boy, if they only knew how desperate Donk is to greet them and play with them and have them give him a cuddle. He is spoilt rotten. LOL. (Can you tell how much I love my baby boy?) He's got this really great deep scary bark when someone comes into our yard - his "intruder" bark. It's great, cos the Jehovah Witnesses stand in the middle of the front yard and won't come near the front door. Haha. When he "smiles" his grin goes from ear to ear and he has that really wide head a staffy/mastiff has. When he's being goofy, his jowls hang down and he looks like a "hound dog". LOL.

And a final pic of all three - Woody, Donk and Skritty - and showing why I don't get to take naps on the bed. :sigh:

Why yes, our animals are spoiled rotten - why do you ask? :D :D

Oh ok, one more. Skrittor the Magnificent aka Skritty.

  • Love the pet pics!  This is Rex--a 14 year old Maltese.  He thinks he's tough (trying to live up to his name).  Here he's laying on top of his "mom".  She had been in the hospital for 3 days (has cancer and is fighting the fight) and he felt he needed to protect her.

Love all the pictures and stories!  Ella is in very good shape actually, I am grateful, I am not ready to lose any more.  Her momma was a black tri color and her dad was a blue merle.  Sadly her mom Libby died at age 6 due to a random, inoperable tumor.  This was 8 years ago and it still makes me cry, she was my heart dog and I miss her like it was yesterday every single day.  But Ella helps lol!  Dragon is probably one of the most loving cats ever, if you sit down, he is in your lap, he hugs you when you pick him up and will try and climb your legs to get up to your chest and shoulder. The vet doesn't believe Dragon is that old but since he has been seeing him since we brought him home he has to believe his own records lol. Drake was a bit more standoffish but loved to curl up next to you and be petted in bed.  I can't imagine my life without critters in it.

And to continue the Aussie saga, my son and daughter in law just got an Aussie last Sept. so he is just a little over a year now.  They are up for Christmas so he will be staying with us for a couple of weeks.  Excited to see him, he has a huge personality.  Although Ella is still the boss and he knows it lol. He is a black tri color. Also a super affectionate dog although I had forgotten exactly how high energy those Aussie pups can be.  Thank God we are super active people lol.

This was our fur-baby, Spaz, cuddling with my husband.

We called him that because he had Cerebellar Hypoplasia that caused him to sometimes fall over or run into walls if he wasn't careful. He was a stray we rescued from freezing to death one winter and due to his condition and his scars, you could tell the little guy had a hard life. We really fell in love with him though and he was our little fur-baby. Sadly we only had him for a few years before he got cancer. We were able to make his last few years very happy ones though and I'm glad we found him. :) He loved to cuddle and he was never more than a few feet from me. He'd lay on my feet while I worked at my desk. He'd even follow me to the bathroom then wait outside the door until I got out. lol I miss him a lot.

I highly recommend rescuing animals rather than buying them. As they say, "Adopt, don't Shop". :) And don't overlook animals with special needs. Cats and dogs with Cerebellar Hypoplasia may walk funny or fall over sometimes, but they really don't know they're any different and are wonderful pets. heart

@wonderland   You made me laugh out loud with the way you wrote (and clarified) why the lady took home the black cockapoo!  Those shots of Griffin are amazing, so clear!  Talk about great timing on a shot, licking the paw with such precision and no blurring. And I bet Griffin and Skritty @jakiblue  would make a fun team. Lookout world!  Skritty's photo, ready to pounce, is also amazing. Would be great for a calendar.

Yeah, I can see the thoughts ticking in Woody's head. "Where should I get out now?" The way we kept Geico in was buying marble chips and keeping them in the big plastic bags, so it would take weathering before the chips all spilled out. We plopped the marble chips in the areas where Geico liked to dig. The chips aren't sharp, but aren't pleasant to try to dig through, and because they are longer and flatter than regular rocks, they tend to nestle down together and not budge. Even in the hot Florida climate (not direct sun though) those bags have held together four years so far. Maybe that would work on Woody?  I love those short little legs and can see him jetting off down the street!

WOW Donk is big!!!! Hope Woody doesn't get stepped on very often! Gorgeous dog. Yes, I can imagine when he barks it must be very loud, with that huge body/set of lungs to put behind the effort!

@cookie514   Awwww! Rex trying to make the best of a situation, what a sweetheart. Sending hope and prayers for "mom."  He has a beautiful coat. I've not been fortunate enough to own a Maltese, but I always see them when I go to Petsmart in the grooming section. They seem really good natured and drop-dead gorgeous!

@divamakeup   It takes thoughtful people like you to make the difference in eliminating or reducing the hardship in an animal's life. Spaz really knew you were meant to be his human, and he your cat. Thanks for telling us about the Cerebellar Hypoplasia. Many people would think an animal with that was having a stroke, or rabies, and avoid it. He was certainly lucky to find you!

Yes, I'm sure quite a few of us open the bathroom door, only to find an animal staring at us like, "Done?"

Going exotic with this one. My son's Blue-Tongued Skink. They originate in Australia and are THE best reptile pets. Why? They do NOT have to eat live animals, Spots Stew is excellent for them, and they usually only potty once a day and usually when they wake up. So unlike other small animals you don't have the "pee on me" worry. They also are quite intelligent, this is Dundee and he nuzzles my son's hand when he wants attention while my son is playing video games. (And has been blamed for MANY video game losses, most unfairly.)  They are about 2 feet long.

They sleep during the winter, occasionally popping out to eat and drink. The breeder in Arizona that we got ours from, walks his every day out in the back yard, and it goes to the door when it wants to come in. I don't trust them though, they are FAST.  This video shows why you do NOT put two together (don't worry, they are "warning" fighting, neither gets hurt at all. They are not biting down, just wrestling.) Watch how fast they scurry off, and see if you'd like to be the one trying to catch them in the underbrush!

So this is my action shot, took a lot of them to ever catch the tongue exactly as it curled up.

@robertfriese  So lovely, I think the color of her coat is amazing (and looks very soft.)  So she actually watched all the movie? Wow, that shows patience. My golden retriever, when I was growing up, barked at the Star Trek episode that had the lightning flashing, during the shootout at the OK Corral with the Earps. That was the only time he showed any emotion toward the television. Now you have to show her the entire series of Indiana Jones movies LOL!

Emerald's first snow day, at least she looked more accepting of snow than @stormlyght  Reggie! Did she enjoy it and get frisky?

Yeah she sat there just like that through the entire movie ,she hasn't paid any attention to the other Indiana Jones movies ,but she growled at the English in Braveheart, and watched the desert pit scene in Return of The Jedi

As for the snow she looked at from the door ran over there did her business looked up just long enough for me to take that picture then she almost knocked me down getting back in the house.

Shes half Golden Lab and half Shiba Inu weighs 31lbs and is full grown and her fur is extremely soft it also blends in with the tile and gets everywhere

Yeah, this. One of the cats just comes in for pets, the other has trained me to let her on to the water fountain and turn on the tap so she can have a drink.

I can't remember who I was talking with last week, who said their cat had learned to move a door handle and let themselves out of a room. OMG. That would be a nightmare, wouldn't it?!!!!

WOW!! Those are some really amazing pets everyone! I am a dog and cat person but with my wife and daughters allergies we can't have cats in the house. I would love to have a Mainecoon or a ragdoll but unless I want to convert the garage to a small apartment I will have to stick with dogs. I really love the personalities you can see in all these images, you can really tell they are really loved. Like all of you I couldn't see myself without pets in my life.I can always count of getting knocked to the ground

    Novica said:

@shadowhawk1   Awwww! My goodness, it's hard to select a favorite image from those. I do love that your avatar looks like a great caricature of you, to start off with. The first image clearly shows the intelligence of the breed- so alert and attentive. The second one, not sure if it's the sea gulls or if they want to fish, but whatever is out there better watch their backs! (or fins, or feathers...)  The third one, if you hadn't posted that before, should go viral and clearly shows WHO owns the house. As also demonstrated by the fourth one guarding the toy LOL. The birthday one is adorable and so is the last one with you and your baby.

They love the water and chasing birds, heaven help you if you are holding their leashes when they see a squirell! I have actually been yanked to the ground by them when they caught me off gaurd chasing after those bushy tailed little teases!

I really love the variety of pets shown here! Its always nice to see that there is enough love in hearts to love all animals although my wife draws the line at anything with scales. :)

Okay, last doggie. (I live with three. You don't own them, they own YOU.)

Seeing as Geico is getting old, and there is such a big age gap between he and Duvee (age 3) I wanted to get another shelter/rescue dog close to Duvee's age. And same size. Well, I found one via internet and talk about one heckuva foster mom's residence!  I felt bad taking the dog away, LOL. She and hubby own WATERFRONT horse property, with a mansion with an elevator. Huge marble tiles for the floor (talking three feet each) and air conditioned horse stalls. However, once I got the dog home, he knew he was where he should be. I had first Dibbs on him so Dibbs it is. Dibbs is a Cairn Terrier mix, and he is HEAVY. Duvee is 16 pounds, Dibbs weighs in at a whopping 34 pounds. He is solid. The first time I picked him up, I went, "Ooomphh! Dang, fella!"

Dibbs and Duvee play like CRAZY. My neighbor is so jealous, constantly saying, "I wish mine would play like that!" She wouldn't say that if her computer chair kept getting bumped as the dogs frolicked into it, causing typos constantly. (Forget posing figures. They look like they're doing the Macarena after my chair gets bumped and my hand jostles all over the place.)  What I also love about getting Dibbs- Geico has started running and playing with he and Duvee. It's made him a younger dog, to have a trio instead of just him and Duvee.

So here's the last doggie rascal, Dibbs. Who is also an escape artist, and the marble chips stopped that. Worked with Geico, worked with Dibbs, that's why I recommend them.

DIbbs loves to sleep on his back, with a smile on his face!

Or in the rocking chair (the dogs have their own, they bring in waaay too much dirt and dust for me to want to sit in that thing!) and he sleeps sitting UP the back of the chair.

Dibbs left leg definitely bows out, and he may have trouble with it when he gets older. That doesn't make him a throw-away dog, but apparently his owners thought so. Dibbs was pulled TWELVE MINUTES before the scheduled euthanasia at the shelter, by the rescue group. Dibbs runs and plays as fast as any dog I've ever had, probably moreso.

    Adopt, Don't Shop!  :)

Sadly she's gone now, but if she played all the time on this and a little 8 note piano.  It usually sounded good.  She'd finish an unfinished bar of music like she did here where she must have been thinking. None of our other ferrets has ever shown any interest.

    Such a sweetie.

My kitty, Yoda, was seventeen in the picture. We had to say goodbye shortly after that photo. We miss having a cat in the house.

I know the feeling... My little kitty, Tisane, also left us after 17 years (the pic was taken a few months before that), and even almost 2 years after it still feels weird not having her around.

She was a bit crazy but totally adorable.

I thought almost all cats could do that.   Especially the lever handle type.   I had one cat who would jump up, pulling the handle down, swing in on the door, race across the bed (with us in it) ont to the window sill where he would stand up and push the curtains open.  (our bedroom window faced east-ish)   He wasn't the most popular cat first thing in the morning. Some how he managed to make the grand old age of 25 before we lost him, and moved with me to 3 different houses after that one.  He would also knock at the front door to be let in.

There's no such thing as bad dogs. there are just bad dog owners.  A dog, regardless of breed, does just what it is trained to do.

    Agreed 100% with this statement!

All the animal companions/family member ('cause they are!) posted here are really cute! I thought I'd post my son and daughter too, both rescued and lovely (I give them baths XD).

This is John Locke. I adopted him from a shelter when he was 4 months old and he was my first cat, so there was something of a learning curve, since I've mostly had dogs before him. Needless to say, he never used his bed and chose my bed instead... and I could deny him nothing (still can't and he knows it!).

The first picture is when I got him.

This is John now, 5 years later.

Maybe because I raised him, he loves using pillows like a proper human.

Almost one year ago, January 21 2017, we got Nikkita from a shelter. They told us she was two years old at the time. She was hunched over a corner, really thin and a bit dirty. Soon as I reached out, though, she moved forward slowly, craving affection. Though she did flinch everytime I pet her. We brought her home that same day, though. She does have a scar on her back and she walks a bit funny still... but she's adorable! And she's come a long way since then. She still doesn't like taking baths, but she does like the rewards after each bath, so she tolerates it a bit more now.

This is how she was when we got her (you can see how thin she was). She was also a bit scared.

This is today, almost a year later.

@chohole   LOL, no, I can imagine first thing in the morning would not be a popular time for the cat!  He was definitely talented though.

@giselle3000  WOW those images are stunning. You definitely changed Nikkita's life for the better. Her eyes photograph different colors, depending on the light (and so does the fur. One is a lot more gray. Either way, just an amazing coat. Looks soft as baby powder.)  John kept his fluffy coat and is just so cute!!!! That first kitty picture is calendar-worthy!

Thanks! Yes, John's fur is one of the things I love! After a bath, it's so fluffy! And, ironically, he doesn't shed as much hair as Nikkita (one would think he would). His fur is also water resistant, so it takes a while to actually soak him up. And yeah, Nikki's fur is weird. It photographs differently depending on what's around her and the light source (though she does have some brown in her, 'cause she's a mix of races. You can see some tabi marks on her face and tail). Her eyes are blue, but sometimes they look grey or green, depending (again) on what surrounds her.

Adding another photo of baby John! :D He is easy to photograph because his fur has such contrasting colors. Nikki is harder, because sometimes her face goes really dark, so better light is a must.

Here's the latest addition to our family. We call him "Fluffy." He's kind of smelly but loves my cooking!

Our barncat, Mr Mao, is not so happy about sharing the table scraps:

Hopefully Fluffy won't bother what's left of our chickens. They are five years old now, not too many eggs these days. These are pics when they (and the boys) were a little younger):
