Chief Warrant Officer Langford, Astrid :
Entered service when she turned 18 and quickly advanced through the enlisted ranks.  Applied for Warrant Officer school with a waiver at age 23, and went on to become the youngest Warrant Officer in the fleet at age 24.  She came to her current duty assignment shortly after Cpt Sladen assumed command of the ship.  Initialy she is assigned as the officer in charge of ship security.  As she proves herself time and time again she assumes the aditional role of Ship Weapons Officer, and becomes Cpt Sladen's most trusted bridge officer and best friend.

As 2017 comes to a close, I think it's time to reflect on how much I've learned about this fun world of Iray rendering.

Over this last year I've posted three "couples" renders.  These are a good example of how we grow and advance our craft with practice and.. not being afraid to try new things.

    01 July 2017 :

    25 August 2017:

And here is my most recent render

And another couples render to finish up the year.
This one took 6 hours to get to 63% on my GTX 980M

    01 January 2018!
This is as good a time as any to start diong something with the characters that I've created for the "Sladen Stories" universe.

I have no intention of doing any full blown web comic, just a series of fun comic style panels exploring whatever comes to mind during Clara Sladen's tenure as Captain of her ship (That I have not thought of a name for yet...)

    So....
Here is Cpt Clara Sladen and Security Chief Astrid Langford staring in the first comic!

    Dforce in use:
    Bed and blankets

The bed and blankets where simulated in layers:
1 - Move blankets out of the way (up)
2 - Move bed down enough to not be coliding with the character, and back to zero at frame 20
3 - Set the Bed as a dForce object
    4 - Change Dynamics Strength : (Bed Frame = 0)(Sheet/Matress = 0.7)
5 - Run simulation (Character is now pressed into and deforming the bed
8 - Set bed Simulation to Freeze Simulation = Yes
7 - Set the Lower Blanket as a dForce object
8 - Place main blanket to a location where it will fall where you want it draped.  (Just high enough to not colide with character.)
I ended up moving the character forward a little then having her move back to start location as the blanket fell (on the final version of the drape)
    9 - Change Dynamics Strength = 0.9 and Collision Offset to 0.5
10 - Run Simulation (Character is now upder the blanket)
11 - Set blanket Simulation to Freeze Simulation = Yes
    12 - Now repeat steps 7 - 11 for the Top Blanket

    More Sladen Stories content:
This is a card from Space Fleet's Collector Card Series.
In this universe, starship crews are held in the same high regard as celeberties and athletes in our universe.

*edit* Fixed text typo (maybe the version one card will be worth some money one day) lol

You've been busy!  I've been busy too and am trying to get caught up on everyone's threads lol.  Love your idea for random comics of their life, and they look great! LOVE the mermaid conversation!  And its amazing what a bit of practice will do! Your couples poses improved rapidly!

Here's my most recent renders, and one of the few times that I've done extensive postwork an a render.
This is two renders stacked.  The background is the first render, but the dress was taking forever to de-noise and I didn't like how harsh the hair shadows where on the face.  Because of this I made most of the background and her hair invisible, then redered again.

The two renders where layered in PS, then carefully merged keeping the best elements from both.
There are four spots in the image that had visual issues that I fixed in post processing. (five if you count the fixed shadow on her face)
***  Bonus points to anyone who can find any of the four fixes!  ***

Here is a diagram showing all of the fixes that I did from top to bottom.

    1. The biggest and most complicated one is the armpit area.  because of how far back she's reaching it caused the are area to distort and get clipped by her torso.
    2. The dress folded funny because of her hip and legs shaping morphs and the dForce simulation didn't manage to completely un-folf it.
    3. The back of the dress decided that it wanted to go through the railing and I didn't notice till I was done rendering.
    4. I missed on lining her up with the floor so her foot was floating a bit.  I added some extra shadowing under the foot.

I think all your renders are amazing!!

Really nice job on the fixing!  I doubt I would have figured that out on my own.I hate when I get to like 92% and I see something going through something its not supposed to.  Gotta love photoshop!

This render is the product of a figure shaping practice that I did based on a live model photographic turn around set.

This character is 5' 5" tall and has the proportions and shape of a real person.

My trusty old Precision T7500 Workstation has retired from processor intensive workloads.

It has been replaced by a Dell Precision T7610
Thre is one really cool feature on this motherboard:
The PCIe slots labeled 2, 3, 4, and 5 use PCIe lanes from the first CPU
The PCIe slots labeled 13 use PCIe lanes from the second CPU

    Onward to the system specs:

    CPU:   2x Xeon E5-2650v2 (8 Cores 16 Threads each)
    RAM:  64GB 1600 MHz REG ECC DDR3 (8x8GB + 8 empty slots)
GPU 1:  Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080ti 11GB (Primary CPU lanes)
GPU 2:  Nvidia Quadro K4000 3GB (Second CPU lanes)
    Power Supply:  1300W Server PSU
    SSD 1:  Crucial 525GB MX300 M.2 (SATA)
    SSD 2:  WD Black 512GB M.2 (PCIe)
    HDD: 1TB WD Black

More playing with "Octiana for Genesis 8 Female"!
This Image falls in with my "Sladen Stories" series.
I reworked my character "Astrid Langford" from G3F up to G8F.  The face is not exact because the original version used Sunny7 as a base.  The body morphs transfered prefectly becasue no named character shapes were used.  (Though she is heavier in this render from a combination of age and her transformation :P)

She is wearing "Aeon Soul's Helix Alpha Outfit".  I added dForce to it, and it drapes nicely over Astrid's new Octolegs.

    Story time:
She was in the Rec Room enjoying her free time in her usual way... (eploring life in a veriety of other humanoid forms, both real and fantasy).  ***The "Rec Room" functions simmilar to Star Trek's Hollodeck except that it creates real cellular structures as needed, and can temporaraly change the users cellular structure as needed for the simulation.  When the program closes or you exit the room, it will undo any changes it made to the users.***  When Astrid asked the computer to close the program, everything faded to a blank room.  Well, aside from a message floating in the air in front of her face.

       DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK)
            //USER/LANGFORD_A/DNA_CODE.RRD

As Astrid raises up one of her Octolegs into view, she sings out in a whimsical tone "Oh no! How long will it take to fix it this time?!"
Hmmm, I wonder if these will fit into my cloths.

Clara is going to be sooooo mad when she sees me!

Awesome but also kind of terrifying octa lady renders lol.

And now for something completely different.

I picked up Body Diversity Morphs for Genesis 8 Female(s) and here is me messing around with the morphs.
    From left to right:
    1. BD Figure Apple
    2. BD Figure Curvy
    3. BD Figure Pear + BD Proportions Bell Figure
    4. BD Figure Sumptuous + BD Figure Voluptuous
All characters have extra fine tuning morphs

Just a little Star Wars fun.

  • JamesJABJamesJAB Posts: 1,760

This is a test render where I turned up the Render Quality to 8 just to see.
This also has dForce applied to the hair and dress. (The hair is just enough for it to ber moved by her hand and hat)
