My opinion only; I'd rather see all vendors use named subdirectories for their content than have to wonder who made it months later when creating a product listing for an image or something.
Ugh, please no. There is a place for author in the duf format (at least, when I hover the mouse over a duff, there is an author spot that can be filled...maybe it's meta data?) Stuff that is intended to enhance other products should be saved in the same directory as the original product (i.e. materials, props, etc), except in the cases where they depend on more than one, which is pretty rare from my experience.
(edited) No clue how to attribute that quote correctly. I was just responding to the portion of daywalker's prior post
And I find those pop-up thingies beyond annoying when I'm trying to select something, so I try very hard to ignore them. As I said, it's my opinion only.

Why would you want to create a product listing? Do you get some kind of affiliate points for doing that?

A couple of reasons, but not related to affiliate points or the like:
1: I like giving credit to product vendors when I post images that I've created.
2: A lot of customers here are always asking what items used in product salea renders are, so having the vendor name readily available is helpful to find the store page here so it can be included in the listing on the product page.

Ah I see. I never really cared much about all that I guess. I am just trying to make art, so the extra clicking around in vanity folders always annoyed the hell out of me. Also bad icons, because I had to load up many things, because the icon didn't show what it looked like. Like I know I want a dress, so I go into a folder named blahblah dress, but the load icon only shows some irrelevant square of a pattern. I don't know if it's a long dress, short dress, fantasy dress etc. I would get frustrated building a scene in an hour, that would have taken 30 mins if I didn't have to load delete a bunch of times stuff that didn't fit my vision for the render. So all the icons I make now show what the dress actually looks like on the girl. Installing takes 3 times as long, but I think I save more time in the long run when I am actually making art :)
This isn't a new set are they going back and starting to encrypt older items now as well or was this just something that was missed when it first came out and is now being found?

No, there were NO older items that were encrypted afterward.
The Bandolera outfit was released in February and was encrypted since release.
I think MistyMist thought that only Genesis3 items or some props are encrypted and voiced her unhappyness that you have to be careful too when new Genesis2 stuff comes out.

Ah OK I noticed that it didn't ahve the new tag on it so I wanted to ask before I said anything more. Thanks Kerya

The original plan was to encrypt everything; Daz changed their mind on that; currently only some new products are encrypted. (It's not speculation, merely what DAZ_someone said (or was provided as official info) in one of the official threads; good luck finding it though.)

I agree. Especially that icon problem is super annoying. I don't mind vanity folders as much.
I can't say that the introduction of DRM has influenced my spending habits a lot - other factors have, though. I just routinely check the "Install Type" when looking at an item, but I also ceck outher things when reading a product description, so that's no extra effort.
The quality/usability of items, and the fact that almost everything is G3 nowadays had a much, much bigger impact and brought down my spending by almost 80%. Most of what I buy is now wishlisted stuff, because there's still so much "old" stuff I am still drooling over. Doesn't mean I won't buy the occasional G3 stuff, but only if it really impresses me.
Of course, that might change when there are more DRM in a week than now, but as long as it remains low level...

The only time I buy G3 stuff is when I know it will fit G2 without an issue. Some of the Sci-Fi sets are the main ones, other than that I ahve been picking up sets, shaders and vehicles
Hair is often safe, since half the time it's better not to fit it anyway.
Short hair works fine with autofit, yes. Longer hair gets nasty distortions in the neck area if you try to fit it, and sometimes doesn't have sufficient morphs to properly fit it to the scull manually. That's why I'm really greatful if a vendor includes native versions for the "older" generations in their hair. However, that's a different discussion that doesn't belong into this thread.
Well, I find long hair can mess up even when used in the generation it's intended for, so that's one reason 'generation compatibility' isn't a huge concern for me. ;)

That's the one thing above all others I like VWD for, getting the hair to pose; of course, it comes with its own set of issues, but it does work.
Stragne, I see Drako for Ivan 7 is encryped only. I did a quick google search looking to look at the product page. I see it is listed in a pirate site. Was this another one where it was accidentally released with DIM downloads on then turned off when noticed?

The original plan was that there was no plan to release excrypted only content. That plan lasted only a few days. But is was a good plan in hindsight.
Damn, a full repurchase price for a convertible version of an existing product. Surprised it wasn't some sort of addon.
MattyManx previous release of the Amenazador Version 2 was also released as encrypted content.
(The cars are very detailled with quite a few moving parts, and IMO certainly worth the money, though.)
Yes but they're the same details and moving parts so far as I can see except now there's no roof. I'm not going to question whether they're worth the money but it does seem questionable to owners of the previous model, or to have to choose between one or the other.

There are differences, like the way the back window is made, and other details. But it's really up to what the buyer prefers, in the end, as you said.

I guess I will just wait for them to show up after a year during a PA sale now. Would have picked them both up without a second thought, but because they are encrypted, its a no buy for me now.

No, that was the new plan after the previous one was abandoned. Early beta, the info we were provided was that eventually all products would be encrypted. Including back catalogue items - all products.

Added - thanks for the release date!
Yeh, just used the script to hide it; very useful.

"Mark encrypted items" script updated to include today's item.
