Yeah, they got me too. Big time. I'd got complacent that just about everything was available aas manual download as well as DIM and DAZConnect. So, okay I now have some store credit. That'll teach me to pay more attention.
I'm a little disappointed over the Drako for Ivan7' unavaiability. I'm a lot disappointed on the scooter's unavalablity. Don't much care about the Kenji HD. From the promos, it doesn't seem to do much. Wouldn't have bought it without the alert on the extra discount.
Does anyone remember just how long ago DAZConnect went into effect? I picked up some freebies when it was first introduced, and after a week or so of the uproar there was an announcement that after a year they'd be available unencrypted.
ETA: I went and checked my product library. Evidently it started in Febuary or maybe the end of January. So we're approaching the half-way mark.
Yes I was also particularly sad to find that Drako for Ivan 7 was encrypted content. If Daz and myself are still around in a 12 months time then I may be able to purchase this unencrypted. If I was a PA I would certainly be concerned about piracy of my products, However, I would be far more concerned about the loss of sales from my loyal customer base due to encryption, which a lot of us customer artists have voiced concerns about.
I must also say that Daz customer support was very prompt and extremely helpful about the returned encrypted items, and I too now have some store credit.
I had just gotten back into DAZ and I had not thought that they had DRM'ed anything. Now I'll have to look through everything I bought in the las month or so and return the encrypted stuff.
Companies only listen when they lose money. If there are a lot of returns of encrypted items *because* they are encrypted then the company may think again. If there are no returns and the sales keep up, then they will keep selling us encrypted crap.
I'm a Maker and live by the Maker Creed. To put it quickly, if you can't modify a product that you have bought, then you don't own it! If I buy a pose set, I expect that I'll be able to use a poser converter.
I can accept DRM only if it is automatically removed at a reasonable time after the DRM was applied. This gives the company time to make their money safely and me the ability to modify the pose files and clothing after the next new figure comes out.
DAZ has stated that any DAZ Connect only items will become available via DIM 1 year after it was released, assuming that DIM is still being used enough to warrany them maintaining it.

You can get a refund back to your method of payment (credit card or whatever) if you specify thats what you want. It doesn't have to be in the form of store credit.
Thanks nicstt and tl155180 for that info. Store credit will be just fine. I am sure (hope) there will still be lots of unencrypted content for the foreseeable future to spend my credit money on here in the Daz Store.

Sure looks like it. The first HD option to be released with Encryption, and it's not only a Male (which, as we've been told, don't sell as well as females) AND it's a figure that didn't sell well last generation we saw similar (Hiro 5).
Sad. I'd have been picking it up, but not with Encryption......
Again it seems the marketing department is playing games with the DRM and trying to trick people into buying it.
Pity they won't make it clearer what products are encumbered so there could be an honest comparison of sales rather than wondering how many were sold because the buyer didn't notice the DRM till they completed a purchase and figured it was too much of a hassle to bother with trying to get a refund.
Time for me to quit this store and likely this hobby I think. DRM has pretty much killed any fun around here.

Oh boy I have a personal offer for 30% off Kenji 7 HD. ...shame it's locked in Connect, otherwise I would 100% have bought it today.
This is a pretty important milestone for Daz since it's the first "core" product that's been locked away behind the 4.9 Connect wall. Might have to give up on further rounding out my Genesis 3 collection.
Took advantage of the personal offer and now horrified to find after a hasty purchase it's encrypted. So now contacting sales for a refund. I also stupidly added Drake for Ivan 7 to the same hurried order only to find that's encrypted too, so needs to be returned. I feel I'm gradually looking at the end of my 3d hobby. I also feel the fact that something is encrypted needs to be made more aware in the promo images. I shall be mentioning this to sales.
I Wholeheartedly agree with the above comments that there is this constant retoric that male things don't sell as well as the female stuff, and then when some good male items come along, they're encrypted. Beginning of the end for me!
We've asked again and again for it to be more clearly displayed but it's been ignored every time.
Personally it's inspiring me to devote my time and money towards other software such as Blender and Marvelous Designer - making figures is really hard, and Daz figures are great, but they're really putting me off buying more at this rate so I'll stick with the excellent parts I have and move into making more of the additional content myself.
I have looked at blender, but like most new users, wish that the program was more user friendly. I don't seem to get my head around all the keyboard short cuts.
I have also requested in my 'encrypted product returns letter to Sales' that encrypted content be made more aware in the promo images, and I also feel there should be a warning that you have encrypted content in your cart before you make the payment. This is the first time I have ever had to return products and I understand Daz''s return policy is extremely good. I will certainly now be more vigilant!
Blender did take me a bit to get started in, but the biggest thing I realised was that despite most tutorials or guides only giving key shortcuts, every command that has a shortcut IS there in the menus below your screen. If you start slow with using menus and then if you use a feature repeatedly let's say scale then you remember that one key, and pretty soon using the keys becomes really natural. The jarring thing with Blender is that it's designed to be efficient rather than to be like other Windows programs - that said you can rebind everything with a little work, which I also do v.v
Is there some way other than buying and returning a product to indicate that you are not buying a product because it's locked to Connect? I have this orange banner that is really annoying me right now but no respond button to tell them I won't be buying because of their bad practices.

I've been thinking about it, but honestly I don't like wasting the nice support peoples' time over something they have no control over. I'm a bit bummed that I bought the Kenji pro bundle and am locked out of the HD part, but oh well. I don't like the lack of clear explanation that a product is locked into only Connect, and I don't like the additional complexity and many required bandaids that Connect has added to the program, so I'm not going to swap to them just because products move there. It's fine saying "I'll wait a year and if it's on special then..." but then will there be content on sale for another year that I want to keep me around in the meantime? I don't know.

Um, wasting their time is exactly what you want to do if you want to pressure them to stop with the DRM items. It might not be their fault that items are being returned, but their paycheck comes from the same folks that do and it could impact the management making that decision. Of course, if you really wanted to hurt DAZ, you would have to request a true refund and not store credit. Those charge backs do cost DAZ money, whereas the store credit does not. It's just a few minutes of an employee's time.
But, that said, if you know already that it's DRMd and buy it just to make a statement by returning it, that's pretty tacky.
I know that the Encrypted Connect requirement for the two new G7M products cost (or, at least, delayed for a yer) one and probably two sales from me. Since the stated purpose of encryption is to avoid lost sales due to piracy, I really wish there were some way to register this fact with the sales department.

If they are any good at statistics, they'll see it in terms of sales made, and probably even identify those who are not purchasing and can determine which of us spend a lot of money to project reasonable estimates on future risk. I imagine management would have these tools in place and are watching carefully. If not, someone probably needs to be replaced:)
It's not wasting their time. That's the "official" way to let them know how you feel about it. You should not feel guilty letting a company know what you like and do not like, what affects your purchasign deciions, etc. Would you feel guilty letting them know you loved a product and want to see more like it!?

It may *say* that, but all that was in my product library was the template files. And when I checked the page again it said connect only. If they've changed it since, that's since. It didn't show in my library. And now I don't trust it.

And I would imagine that if they act like a *real* business, they are keeping track of how many people are asking for their money back when they can't get access to the product. It doesn't matter whether the money spent returns to the store eventually. It is indicating how many of the customers either can not, or will not utilize this option.
Man, how long has it been now since Connect launched? I had expected to come back here and find out that all new products were now selling as Connect only, but instead its still just a small handful of products they appear to be stealthly trialling still. They ain't alf being cautious. Feels very much like their little DRM project hasn't been very popular.
Daz - I say just go all-in and just see if your business fails or not ;) Only way to be sure!
they are offering all 3 download methods so people can choose how they want to download.
Doesn't that kind of defeat the entire purpose of DRM-ing the content though? They ain't gonna be stopping any pirates that way.
Just a small misunderstanding/miscommunication... Not all items use DRM. If they do, you can only download via DAZ Connect. If they are not encrypted, you can use Connect, DIM or manual download/install. Hope this helps.

You can open a ticket and select Sales as the department. I have done this before and they did in fact reply.

You can also download the encrypted package and install that through Studio/Connect (even if you are offline, as long as the computer has gotten your personal encryption key). So encrypted only content is installable through more than just online-only Connect installs.

Deleted. I misunderstood.
Connect download method is different than DRM. Encrypted content can only be downloaded with Daz Connect, but Daz Connect can download unencrypted content, too. So when all three methods are offered, that is only for unencrypted content.
I think everyone is missing the point I was making. I understand the ins and outs - what I'm saying is that the original reason for encrypted content was to reduce piracy, but if they're continuing to offer all 3 download methods on almost all products (meaning its unencrypted content) then they aren't achieving their stated goal. I'm wondering why this isn't moving along faster - why isn't every new product becoming encrypted content if it was such a great idea?

Since he is encrypted with DRM I will never purchase him.....
I probably worded my previous post poorly.
