Anything can happen in the Why Are Crumbs Blowing Out of the Air Vent Complaint Thread.
Maybe it would just make the whole house smell like cookies when the heater turned on?
Tangent, but related, my elder kid at about age three was minimally supervised in the front seat of my car once and, for some reason, got into my bag of trail mix and decided to relocate just the sunflower seeds into the vents. For years whenenever I had the heat or A/C on and hit a bump, it'd bounce one up just high enough to catch air and go rocketing like a little missile into the back seat. Took me a while to figure out what was going on, but it was so absurd it just gave me the giggles whenever another one would shoot off. Only a Mom-mobile...
...don't give me any ideas.
I've been neglecting this thread for far too long.
...well winter here was indeed short lived. Lasted all of two days as it's already warmed up into the mid 40s today . What snow we had (which varied in depth from 1 - 4" depending on where you were) pretty much is gone. The one bonus this year, no freezing rain afterwards like usually happens..
Temperatures will rebound more to normal and then into the low 60s by next weekend
Meanwhile yet another arctic blast is in store for the midwest and east. Stay warm there.
Down here in the southern US it's been a steady 83 degrees, warm winter. We have a cold front coming next weekend where it'll get down to 58! And with rain. Freezing rain...
Thanks. High on Monday is -5 before the wind chil is factored in.
Minnesota: come for the culture. Stay because your car won't start.
This is why OT threads are the best.
Where are my glasses? Wo ist meine Brille?
Complaint: I just spent almost $200 to replace an APC backup power power supply only to find that the external hard drive that contains most of my DAZ items has failed and is no longer recognized by my computer. It will cost me another $250 to replace it.
Many years ago, even before this guy opened his ticket, I purchased a CyberPower "uninterruptable power supply" for my computer. It had AC outlets for me to plug in all of my computer components. And if the power failed, it would provide power to the computer long enough for it to properly shut down (which could take more than a minute back then). It worked nicely for a while. But one day it stopped working. I sent it in for warranty repair. They sent something back to me that looked like my device, and said it was fixed. When I plugged something into the outlet, a fireball immediately shot out of the outlet. There is no moral to this story.
Coincidentally, my UPS's have been clicking several times tonight. I think the rain/ice/snowstorm is playing havoc with the powerlines. Lights in my room flicker but my computer, monitor, KVM switch, modem, LAN switch,TV, phone, and speakers/headphones have been rock steady.
Y'gotta love UPS's,
but when it comes time to replace the battery after about three years you remember the price of security.
Weather report said 3 inches tonight. Temps were right at freezing (32F) earlier today, and now it's about 19F, consequently there's been a good layer of ice laid down, so I suspect tomorrow will be a baaad day for somepeople.
Snowing and blowing. Good ol'fashioned February snowstorm.
...
Complaint: They lied!
We did not get 3" of snow last night. First it rained, then it sleeted, then it snowed and blowed sideways, and my porch this morning is about 4 inches deep under the protection of the roof and about 5 inches deep with two inches of frozen slush underneath on the steps out from under the roof. Lots of porch sweeping and ice chopping to do this morning.
I remember back a few years ago when I was doing housecalls for computer repair during the winter. Some people didn't care about their entrance areas at all and would just trample the snow into a plateau of ice. Dangerous for 70 year old men especially when carrying a computer in or out. So, I keep my steps and porch clear of snow, just because it's the right thing to do,
as well as my porch being the place that UPS and FedEx and USPS drop off packages for both families in this house. (It's the only covered place).
Complaint: Egads! It's been over 5 years since I sold my car in Aug of 2019 and stopped doing housecalls, and yes I was 70 at the time. My, how time flies when you're having fun. Wheee..., I get to sweep my porch again.
Currently -27C (-17F) here with a windchill of -38C (-35F) supposed to warm up by Thursday.
I wouldn't go out until Spring!
complaint: The bright sunny skies are useless because it's bitterly stinking cold outside, and supposed to be like that all week.
non-complaint: After a few really rough days with a lot of meltdowns, today kiddo has decided that life is good as long as he's on my lap and eating cookies straight from the bag while he plays tablet. So he's on my lap eating cookies from the bag while he plays tablet and I have a fancy coffee I made for myself. Because that's how we roll in the Shire.
Why do I think of claws when I hear the word adamantium?
I just got out of seeing Brave New World. I wonder who will have adamantium claws? Hugh or someone else?
Henry Cavill would be fantastic. His cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine wasn't mean to be serious, I think. But he's eventually entering the MCU and he could make it work. Daniel Radcliffe is another popular fan choice.
I might have misspelled it?
You spelled it right
thanks!
...after a week in the 30s and lows in the 20s which ended in a couple days of light snow (by Wisconsin standards) it warmed up to 54°.. Will be in the low to upper 50s through the week warming up into the low 60s by the middle of next week.
This morning it's 3F here this morning at 8:30. My bedroom is upstairs and is quite a bit cooler than the downstairs (no heat registers up there). Last night I snuggled under two blankets and one of them was electric. Mmmm... snuggle.
"OT: The DAZ Weather Report and Complaint thread:"
Non-complaint: (Totally sincere & non-sarcastic, I swear by my beloved Chaos Hounds) Thanks to all of you trying to make me feel better about the -5 to -10 windchills & accompanying assorted cursed winter weather about to descend on my Arkansas Mountain.
(Should this be a) Complaint(?): Bear the Alpha Chaos Hound, who has never in 10+ years met a food he didn't gobble down (Lab mix, you know), refused (refused!!!!) a piece of my cheddar cheese popcorn! Should I be worried it's not edible? His cohort Gilly the ditzy border collie did like it.
Non-complaint 2: Bear & Gilly are keeping our bedroom warm & cozy this winter.
non-complaint: Indoor plumbing is awesome. Seriously. I would not want to go into an outhouse and sit on a frozen toilet seat lid in this, and I feel so sorry for the neighbor's dog every time he has to go out and do his business. I don't think I could relax enough to pee if I was standing barefoot in the snow with that sort of windchill accosting me.
That's why "Honey Pots" became popular ,get up slide out the pot ,take off the lid ,do your business ,put the lid back on ,crawl back into bed before the hot spot disappears ...... ahhh the good old days .... unless your chore was emptying the pot .....
Non-complaint: Another mini-adventure this week. Need to visit one of my "...ists" again. My bloody nose doctor, the Otolarygologist. I hope he does more than look at it and give platitudes this time. But at least I get out of the house for a few hours this week. This is the trip where I take the 8:00AM bus to the doctor, then walk a couple hundred yards uphill to the TimHortons for breakfast
, then across the street to the big grocery store, to pick up a bag of consumables,( i.e salad makings, eggs, milk, bananas, fruit), and take an Uber home before noon. A tolerable day energy-wise and expense-wise. As long as it's also weather-wise.
Complaint: I've got too many "...ists": My Medicare insurance requires a $40 co-pay for "...ists", but not for my Primary Care Physician(PCP). Over the years I've collected a list of "...ists" and many of them have me on a 12 month, 6 month or 3 month check-up schedule, and those co-pays add up over the year.
I admit that I'm an addicted collector but I really should stop collecting "..ists". So far I have a Cardiologist, a Urologist, a Dentist, an Opthomologist, an Optometrist, a Dermatologist, a Podiatrist, a Gastrointerologist, and an Otolaryngologist(ear, nose & throat). But, now that I have a young-ish, modern 21st century, PCP doctor, who has good lab facilities in his organization, and that I can get an easy bus to him without having to worry about a co-pay, I think I'll let him have first crack at determining and fixing what's wrong with me, and save all that co-pay money.
However, because of my wonky heart situation, the Cardiologist stays at first position on my "...ist" list. But since I don't like my Otolaryngologist anyway and he isn't doing anything that my PCP couldn't do, I think today will be my last visit with him, baring emergency or complications. Once an "...ist" gets his hooks into you you're essentially on a subscription plan for his check-up services, and his job is to find things wrong with you.
Non-complaint: No more scheduled doctor appointments until April when I have three, one in each of the first three weeks of April. (*Sigh*)
One more time: "Otolaryngologist": I've finally mastered how to pronounce it and spell it, I'm gonna wallow in it for a while. "Otolaryngologist"

When I woke up it was -1 degrees Fahrenheit. Then it went up to 0. Then back up to 1. Now all the way to 4. Quite a rollercoaster. Next week it's expected to be over 60 degrees. Perfectly normal.
