4.22 crashes when rendering

Anyone else having Daz crash when rendering since updating to 4.22? Or any ways to fix said problem?

 

Anything I render since updating to 4.22 just crashes Daz. Hoping I'm not the only one.

  • Having this same bug. Crashing when rendering, when using the Iray viewport, etc.

  • Out of Touch Hairs? Many have been updated to fix an issue with their custom shader, so check DIM/DazCentral/Connect for updates, but if you have one that is an issue remove any map from its Transmitted Colour proeprty (in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane).

    DS log is needed rather than couldlog. DS - Help - Troubleshooting - View Log File... From the log we may know what objects did you use in the scene..

    So, btw, I saw a few cases of crash these days... did you guys also happen to use OOT's hair in your scenes ?

  • You don't appear to have any Out Of Touch hairs, but you do have their Daily Casuals 0 it may be worth checking that none of those have a map applied to Transmitted Colour in the Surfaces pane. However, it does look as if memory is also an issue.

    You have GeForce GTX 1660 and ran out of VRAM. Usually one will get black render window with Nvidia 20 - 40 series cards when running out of VARM. But with 9 - 10 series, one usually ends up with Ds crash.

    Pls try to use Scene Optimizer to optimize the VRAM consumption of your scene, and install GPU-Z to monitor VRAM usage.

    I'm having the same problem.  This is ridiculous.  Some of my scene will render, while others crash now.  I'm running a GeForce RTX 3070, so don't tell me it's out of VRAM, the scenes work perfectly yesterday with Daz Studio 4.21.

    May I ask what the bare figure test shows me?  Some of my scenes render fine, while others crash... With the scenes that crash I checked the hair, no OOT hair...

    A successfull render with a pure bare Base Figure can more or less prove that you don't have engine / driver issue but probably asset issue that results in render failure or crash...

    If there's no OOT hair in the problematic scene, I think you may test it by a 'process of elimination'. For instance, remove all hairs first then test, then remove all garments, till you find the culprit.

    Incredible, so I have to go through my scenes prop by prop to find why it won't render.  How exactly is this an upgrade when yesterday I could open and run any scene I've created???

    Have you looked at the log file to see why the render failed?

    I have a similar problem when rendering. An asset which rendered quickly and well with 4.21 yesterday, won't render today. Daz doesn't crash, I just get a blank image. Can somebody explain, as mcgarhart_3bfd88cc5f said; not so much an upgrade as a downgrade.

    Hi

    I am getting crashes on some scenes that worked perfectly just before the update for example I have

    and it crashes now where as 4.21 had no problem with it and hour earlier.

    the log file shows a load of deallocation errors and i tried deleting items for the scene and found it was the Leony hair another thread mentioned the trans map and i deleted that in surfaces and the scene now renders. I did not update the nvidia driver so why did 4.22 crash on this?

    Also i noticed errors with Lyra's ears in the log is this something to worry about?

    Edit I have tried more hairs and it seem to be other OOT that crash very confused

    Are you using the updated NVIDI driver? This version of DS requires it.

    and it crashes now where as 4.21 had no problem with it and hour earlier.

    the log file shows a load of deallocation errors and i tried deleting items for the scene and found it was the Leony hair another thread mentioned the trans map and i deleted that in surfaces and the scene now renders. I did not update the nvidia driver so why did 4.22 crash on this?

    Also i noticed errors with Lyra's ears in the log is this something to worry about?

    Edit I have tried more hairs and it seem to be other OOT that crash very confused

    Are there hairsd in the scenes that crash? Which? You can try seelcting them and treat them as in my reply above, there is a good chance that will fix the issue. You could also, if you use an external isntalaltion method, try (re)installing a recent hair by Out Of Touch to make sure that the latest (fixed, hopefully) version of the shared file is on the system.

    Right to be clear :)

    This morning that scene and many many others as i use a lot of OOT hair rendered just fine but upgrading to 4.22 caused this issue to occur hence my confusuion.

    Leoony hair and classic bob hair crashed post update and were updated in january when the patch came out i am reinstalling the leony hair now but it might take a while on my tragic rural internet will update when its done

    Reinstalled the leony hair and it still crashes and shows no pending updates deleting the trans map works but this was patched ages ago

    DS 4.22 silently (no crash dialog) closed itself a few minutes after a succesfull render (which I did not save), in those minutes I did not work with DS or anything else on my computer.
    Feel a bit stupid now about always agreeing to the latest update. I realize I am relatively lucky not to experience a crash during the render process as so many of you reported. 4.21 was quite stable for me with (render) crashes being rare.

  • I've been rendering for years on 16gb of ram and it's been fine until the Daz update.

    Not every render crashes. A base genesis 3, 8, 8.1 & 9 model all render fine.

    Certain scenes render fine that have many models and a lot of props.

    Other just crash. I tried rendering a scene I rendered the day prior to the update with no luck.

    If I'm not mistaken RAM is used while setting up your scene. The larger amount of RAM you have the bigger of a scene you can make without lags. Your GPU and/or processor are utilized for rendering depending on your render settings.

    RAM is also needed to prepare the data for the renderer, since the working data is not what Iray wants (it doesn't need modifiers, it does need high-resoloution meshes)

  • Same issue today.  Would seem that DAZ needs to address fixing the issue. I managed a  software development shop or many years and this should not be the end users problem to fix. If its a Vendor issue then coordinate a fix with them.

    It seems that not all prodcuts were updated, though many were. Instalaltion order therefore matters, installing an unfixed product after the fixed will obviously rstore the problem. It also matters that there not be an older version of the file, not fixed, found before the fixed version.
