...same here.
In the Gen4 era I often used Thorne character as a base to try and get more of a petite physique and bust
The trouble with using adult clothing content (as there is little in the way of clothing created for younger characters), is that textures are scaled for larger breast sizes and tend to look bad on a less endowed character Stripes and certain patterns are particularly troublesome.
And you can get an additional reduction in price by paying with store credit, since gift cards are 10% off. Even better if you have leftover credit from BF/CM.
So now I have my first G9 product. Unexpected, but an interesting turn of events. My only gripe is burning through a chunk of my store credit so soon. ;)
I'll be sitting and waiting for Aiko 9, Hiro 9, Mika 9 and August 9
I find it ick and so pass.
The parts don't seem to go together. She has the height and proportions of a prepubescent girl, the bust of an overly ample young woman, the eyes of an anime characters, and the lips of a 40 year old woman who had lip filler injections and now has duck lips
It's a bit Frankenstein like.
And Jayden 9 too
Josie 9 is lovely, but I immediately saw that she is too toonish to be useful for me. The skin looks a bit like vinyl, the backs of the knees and the bends of the elbows are reminiscent of a doll with bending wire inside. The lips are a bit exaggerated for my taste.
My decision to pass was even easier because the bundles, apart from P3D's Rowan character, contain nothing I could do anything with. Plus, like some others I don't feel well with characters that have the face of a child and an adult female's body.
I'm now patiently waiting for Darius and Monique 9, Mei Lin and Lee 9, and hopefully Alawa and Ashan 9....
The space/bend between the nose & the philtrum has always bugged me with this type of head morph. It's difficult to remove that bend sometimes regardless of how many septum/philtrum morphs I have. And I have very few since this is Genesis 9.
NOW the price is what others were reporting, so it's "ticket time" ... hopefully they're in a good mood.
Lol, "Egads!' The only time I ever heard (or actually read) that word was from Archie comics, usually said by Mr. Lodge, Veronica's father. Perfect word for Josie & the Pussycats, also part of the Archie comics franchise.
I purchased Josie 9 because she had HD presets in the previous description (DAZ apparently removed them), I just checked today and it's not the case :( I'm very disappointed :(
I just checked her normal maps and they have micro details included :( So with the other micro details they are added twice and I'm not sure it's what was intended...
For Victoria 9, the normal maps were missing micro details.
That would explain the awful textures on her face.
It looks like a generic noise map was used and the amplitude of the effect was turned up so high it ruined her skin.
Here's one of the promo renders that shows it. There are several more.
Why is her mouth so big in some of the promos, then so much smaller in others?
---
I've decided to wait for others to get any new G9 characters and post about them before I decide to get them or not. The cost is too high and I just don't want to go through the hassle of asking for refunds.
I've purchased the last three Josie characters(6,7, and 8). This one I'll be skipping.
That certainly makes her look like she needs straight up slathered in moisturizer, doesn't it?
This is what the Toon Heroes promo pics did right. They're toony characters, so their materials reflect that. For Josie, the artist tried to do realism™.
Daz Originals(An Alan Smithee at this point) are trying to have it both ways with their stylized characters, but they need to pick a lane.
Accidental copy and paste. However, Josie 7 & 8 dont have HD morphs either so Im not surprised that Josie 9 doesn't.
Yep, I also noticed that. But I wonder what is the reason about most of young characters not having HD morphs. We can't have high quality closeups of their face or hands :( For Genesis 8 characters, I used he HD morphs from Teen Raven 8.
Your guess is as good as mine. On the bright side we can use HD morphs from any other character. Though at this time, thats only a few.
Yeah, but Josie 9 is no "Teen" anymore. And other Teen Releases for Gen 8 like Jane or Raven had the HD. Sorry, but there was much fuzz about HD being included with the figures in G9 and therefore the higher base price would be justified. It is a major letdown to release a base figure without the HD so soon. And it is an even bigger letdown to publish a product page which advertises features not available with the product. - Buy a new Porsche with 5(00) horsepower to learn that the specs had been accidental copy and past. Not funny.
I see no reason to buy Daz Originals for (barely)stylized characters. PAs like JoeQuick are very much on my radar though, because this is how you make a toon character look! The faces, the hands, the skin, the eyes. Its gorgeous. Look at the sticker price too. $25 for multiple characters vs $60 for one.
...she almost looks like The Girl - Teen Version.
Yeah, she kinda does. I swear the names of these characters don't even matter any more. Aiko 8 for instance, looked nothing like Aiko.
Yes, they are great. Look at the drama!
..that's why Aiko 3 is still in my runtime
She is 5' 4'', the height of an average fully grown woman. Just sayin. You need to walk around a college campus on a hot day. Her head is obviously toonish, but her body is not at all abnormal for a healthy young adult.
Alright so this is the problem I believe Daz needs to understand going forward.
Josie is a full priced Daz core character, $60. But Josie has no HD head or body. Not only that, but Josie lacks eye textures. She has zero eye textures. She can use the 8k normal maps that came with Genesis 9 base...but that doesn't make Josie special.
Daz users are going to expect characters to have their own unique textures. All users have Josie's eyes already. If Josie is toonish, why doesn't she has some fantasy or toon eye colors? All users have the base 8k normal maps already. Josie needs to bring us something more unique to warrant her $60 price tag in my opinion.
People were hoping that Victoria 9 was the new standard...not the exception. While V9 also lacks eyes, she contains enough to demonstrate the value, like her HD morphs and custom normal maps, as well as gen mats for BOTH male and female.
Besides that, wouldn't it make sense for this character to be Mika 9 or something else? Previous Josies were not this toonish.
I will point out that the readme does list 2 HD morphs for Josie, she has a HD navel and her own HD nipple. So there's that. But there is no HD full body or head. So at least she isn't using the basic navel and nipple morphs. I don't think that is enough.
She does have a fair number of corrective morphs, much more than typical Thorne characters. Most G8/8.1 Thorne characters list barely any corrective morphs, most only have one for the eyes and that is it. Josie has a bunch. Again, Victoria also has these, setting the standard. Plus many 8/8.1 core characters had tons of corrective morphs.
I have always believed that Daz core characters should be setting the standard, setting a high bar that all PAs strive for, whether it be realistic or toon. With Genesis 9 being so new and prices going up, it is even more important to set this standard. Try to blow our minds, not our wallets. If you can set the bar high, the wallets will open, and people will move towards G9 naturally in order to get that quality.
The difference between Mousso Ravenna G9 and Josie 9 is just enormous. And Ravenna is less than 1/3 of the price.
Teen is not in the title, no, but it is in the product dscription: "Josie 9 is a teen pop star..." No one said HD would be with every figure, not all G8 or G3 Daz characters had HD. Someone made a mistake on the product page, and any customer who is not happy about it is allowed to get a refund if they so choose.
1) The "Teen" reference was a joke. Never mind.
2) Oh yes the "included HD" was an argument quite often heard to justify the major price increase of the DAZ base figure. And Josie 9 is no cent cheaper than Vicky 9.
3) Not all characters had HD but with Gen8 the vast majority had. And why should the new super shiny generation not include it with each figure.
4) That is what I will be probably asking for to correct my mistake of purchasing in the first place.
