Seeing it's the new figure and there will likely be some great things coming out that are G9 only, I am fully in the G9 camp when it comes to purchases and have been working on getting my version of G9 morphed to my tastes and using her in my projects, Luckily I have lots of other figures and assets to use when G9 doesn't fit the bill which is becoming less and less for me and eventually when I get a good base figure built, I will probably be using G9 all the time.
I am glad that some vendors chimed in on another thread saying that G9 products are selling well. Saves me from buying products I wasn't really sure on just to show support for G9 products and vendors I want to support. I already have to many products I haven't used yet for G8, LOL
Daz partly diverted the G9 train onto a siding due to the lackluster joint bends provided out of the box. I'm not sure why that decision was made, but, thus far, nothing has surfaced from the content creator community to correct this issue, if that is what Daz was banking on. If I were the Daz G9 PM, I would have insisted that the joint bend fixes were included in the base package, or in a Day 1 add.
Have you zeroed the figure? That will turn off the corrective morphs. Also, there is at least one character that causes issues with some bends.
Genesis 9?
Yeah, it is hard having to remember NOT to zero G9 when I am so used to doing that with earlier generations. I have a sticky note on my monitor to remind me to RESTORE not ZERO, LOL
V9 looks great, but she's not a phenotype I have much use for so I haven't purchased. Outside of her I haven't liked the characters and shaders released for G9. Others have mentioned some of the other problems with G9 that I've observed as well. Though people insist the expressions are better, I don't see it. At best expressions are about the same, though most of the non-neutral expressions I've seen attempted have been poor.
I've wishlisted some creatures, but for humans G9 is a pass for me. It's a step back from 8 in that area.
+ 1
Yesterday I tried to pose a Genesis 9 with arms crossed behind the back. The shoulders looked extremely weird and I dropped it.
It's been a year since Genesis 9 was introduced. I haven't bought more than one basic package. I'm still hoping that one day we'll get some Real World clothes for the Genesis 8 males.Oh and I'd appreciate it if DAZ created separate categories for Genesis 9 males and females.

I buy some stuff for Genesis 9 now and then to support the cause and give myself something to play with when the time comes. With me, it always comes eventually.
I waited for quite some time for some characters to be developed before jumping in too deep. After jumping in, I finally advanced from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 - so now I'm investing in that. Wow. I really like Genesis 8!!! I even like the monsters better!
However, someone mentioned that auto-fitting hair to Genesis 9 isn't supported? Well supported or not, the first thing I did was to auto-fit Linday's Long and Curly Hair with dforce and it fit like a charm. I might have had to use some of the morphs included with the hair, but hey... it worked great.
One thing that really troubled me (it's been a while... not sure if things have changed) is the fact that G9's sclera (eye whites) and teeth are so freeking dark unless... what? Pump light at them? That's not cinematic. I thought... maybe it's just me. Loaded up a Genesis 8 character out-of-the-box... beautiful as expected. I don't get it. It's not like just shadows either - it's like they've got a dark gray mixed into them.
I'm a big fan of Genesis 9 and all that it stands for. I just can't use it yet. Beyond what's listed above I don't really care for something about the legs. I thought the shins were too short, but I can't really put my finger on it. I bought the whole Essential Shapes bundle and none of those morphs helped. Legs Length, or whatever it's called - like I said... it's been a while - scaled the length of the whole leg, leaving the thighs looking out of proportion to the shins still. Maybe it's the fact that I Aiko/Kieko enhance my characters so often, giving them long legs, but... I don't know.
Genesis 9 also crashes my Daz Studio and/or PC far too often.
I still love using the good ol' original unimesh - Genesis 1
I still love using M4, V4 and that whole family
I still Love using Genesis 2, 3, 8 and I don't have any 8.1
I really love the amount of free essentials that Genesis 9 comes with!
I was onboard with Genesis 9 since I first heard about it just before release. Bought into it pretty heavy at first.
So I still support it but I can't use it. Some of my favorite monster vendors have made some creatures for it but I haven't bought them. I like the 3, 8, and 8.1 Genesis-based creatures/animals better. Maybe it's me... but I'm who I buy for so....
I bought a package for Genesis 9 (I forget what it was). I was all excited, installed it, and couldn't find the item. It was hidden in a DAZ Originals folder. I was afraid DAZ would continue to play Hide and Seek with their future products. Oh and it appears Genesis 9 men will be forced to wear fantasy clothes, or women's clothes....Even if they work in an office!
Hi!
Funny you should bring this up and I would see it, since I was just celebrating G9 in another thread:
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/665426/oakley-for-genesis-9-commercial#latest
The thing for me is, I wasn't around for G2, G3, or G8. I apparently bought a few morphs for G8 at some point but (Life) things kinda kept me away, so to be returning now just as G9 is taking off, is a no brainer for me. I will be focusing on G9. I have little interest in investing in G8, because for me, G9 offerings are more economical right now, and honestly, just seems like a better figure. Not only does it have the ability to look very realistic, if that's what I want, but it's versatility of being able to be either male or female means more options for the money I do invest. Male and female clothes, morphs, hair, textures - all of it go much, much further and just seems like a better idea to me. I'm definitely focusing on G9 and looking forward to what I will be able to discover I can do with it.
+1
it has autofit clones for genesis 1, 2F,2M,3F,3M,8M&F, 8.1M&F
YES! That's one of the BEST things about Genesis 9... Everything that comes with it "out of the box". Since I was gone for all those other figures, it is very easy for me to compare what comes "standard". And Genesis 8 came with ONE basic texture, and zero additional character presets and with all that confusion of 8 vs. 8.1, I find it more troublesome than anything. Genesis 9 comes with Three (3) Male and Three (3) Female characters, complete with textures ranging from light to mid to dark tones, a BUNCH of eyebrow variations, eye colors, and morphs that range from general shaping to expressions... oh yes, and the Autofit to all previous versions for clothing. I don't really get why some people aren't using it... It comes "ready to use".
Depends on what you want to do.
You can for example autofit a loincloth of older generations, depending on the legs pose it needs a de-triangulator. Same for some pants.
And the chest looks weird.
dForce hair/strandbased hair that grows directly from the figure geometry won't convert. That was the only geenral issue, I think, and it applies to any conversion route, not just to Genesis 9.
I'm buying and experimenting with G9 but am realizing that I'm starting to go back to using G3 a lot more and buying up more content for G3. The faces and body types fit my aesthetics a lot more. With G9 I always have to make the legs longer and body thinner (which can screw up clothing fits and poses) and the faces take more work to make attractive. G8/8.1 is really my favorite but I have so much content, it takes forever to load, sometimes up to 40 minutes! I still have those conflict errors I could never get rid of. I have that turbo loader thing but then it prevents me from being spontaneous and using all my morphs and still seems to take a long time to load. I do like many of the products coming out for G9, but I still don't like the main character and if I want to something quick and easy, I go back to G3. G9 is a creative challenge for me to make look the way I want which is sometimes enjoyable, like starting with a lump of clay, but for a "quickie" lol, I always go back to G3.
One thing I can say about outfit and Genesis 9:
While you're waiting for more genesis 9 to come out, most everything auto-fits to genesis 9 Really Well!
It's a great figure. They definitely put a lot into it and I wish I was using it right now - but I can't.
Today Studio had a nice update on the animation tools. Time for me to take another look at Genesis 9. Maybe the update allows me to use it? We shall see,
In the mean time, I have a fond appreciation for all of the Daz figure generations, so I'm happy no matter what.
Also, thanks Richard! That makes sense and is totally understandable.
I don't want to derail this thread, but I'm curious to know what the update is? Any info would be appreciated!
Daz Studio Discussion thread - I'm still waiting too.
I love it! The key frames are much bigger, easier to use/select, etc., the Timeline menu (right-click timeline pane tab) is redone > consolidated, made more clear, the Graph Editor now has a proper button on the bottom of the timeline "Key Graph", it's called. I have a feeling that's not all.
Very Excited = Me!!!
Awesome, thank you so much for the link to the other thread! I might update the general release then and check it out, I've been holding out.
I was very reluctant to upgrade to Genesis 9 for the same reasons.
After almost a year since the release of G9 however, I took the leap. A couple characters, such as Nosferatu, Midnight Bones, and Lahr the Lion convinced me to try G9.
A few months later, and I've purchased a slew of human characters as well.
I only use DAZ for art reference. That is why it took me a while to decide on G9, but once I did so, I can tell you there is no comparison with G8 at least for the human characters. The details in the face, the posing, the skin texture, just about everything about G9 is uncannily human. So I'm glad I finally came on board.
The only item I would critisize on Genesis 9 is the lat muscles leading up to the shoulder girdle. For some reason this area doesn't work well with overhead (stretching) arms poses (see attached). With clothing it's fine, but for non-clothed figures it looks almost rubbery. It just doesn't look natural. But otherwise, G9 is fantastic!
I've found that converting G8 characters to G9 looks much nicer than many of the characters that are created for G9. Here is G8F Tara converted to G9. Can you tell which is which?
Which converter did you use? I want to try this with several characters.
I stopped short of purchasing this one, because it says that material presets do not covert. But how did you get the G8 skin material onto the G9 figure?
RSSY Character Converter Genesis 8 and 8.1 Female to Genesis 9 | Daz 3D
Material presets are also not converted. Default materials copied to your new Genesis 9 characters may have ugly seams and/or misaligned features due to the different UV layout.*
To convert the shape, I used Manfriday's converter: https://www.daz3d.com/figure-converter-for-genesis-9
To rig the shape after coverting, I used Zevo's Shape Rigger Plus For G9: https://www.daz3d.com/shape-rigger-plus-genesis-9-edition
To transfer the skin, I used Cayman's Legacy UVs for G9: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-9-genesis-3-8-and-81-male
Is Genesis 9 the one on the left?
Alken's method looks like a great way to go. But I also wanted you to know that Riversoft Art and Sickleyield have a bundle that enables the convertor to also transfer the materials - but it needs Sickleyield's product to do so.
That is a wonderful conversion. Bravo!
