I've only just started using G9 for my characters. While the transition works fine for the most part, I find the face looks a bit strange when trying to create a male character. It still looks very feminine despite morphing the body and head base. I'm hoping to purchase the G9 face morph kit in the near future to compensate for that ...

If the face looks too feminine to you, try taking the Base Feminine Head slider in the negative direction a little. Sometimes that works.

oh oh ... a 5.99 G9 bundle ... but you have to buy a new or still new release...or the SPOTLIGHT item works. How can you pass on this? laugh The car is pretty cool at least.

if I can get a Spotlight item I don't already own tomorrow and the offer still stands then maybe, indecision

I could have bought it today with the other stuff I bought and the Spotlight item if DAZ had worded their sales page correctly

I only really like the car but not enough to buy the Spotlight item twice angry

I wonder how memory hungry the car is. That vendor has already stung me twice with sets that leave no RAM for characters.

I would normally not have bought a product from that PA, for the same reasons you mentioned.

It has 1.7 M polygons, and take up 5 GB VRAM using an HDRI for lightning.

    It uses 42 4k textures.

is it not possible to reduce the texture size?

Of course, manually or with Scene Optimiser or a similar tool.

Of course it is. The textures does not seem to be optimized.

I might try to take it into blender, and look more closely on the mesh and surfaces, and see how it could be optimized. It annoyes me when there e.g. is a metallic map with a few items, when the PA could have made these items its own surface, and then avoid that map. Anyway those maps can be reduced in size with absolutely no impact.

I'm sticking with Genesis 8 because I've put a lot of time and development into it and I honestly feel like I'm just scratching the surface. I am jumping on the Genesis 9 train, but only when I see things I want that can be transferred to 8 such as poses, maybe morphs and hair/clothing.

I got to where I can create lots of stylized characters the way I used to with G1, so I'm pretty well happy staying with G8 too.

i did some test renders with that SUV and by itself it renders in 34 seconds with my 2070 Super. A scene with a building HDR 1 G9 figure from the bundle, with the dress and hair took just over 10 minutes. Onless I'm missong something, it seens to work just fine on my system without optimization, as is

Still waiting for more masculine specific stuff for genesis 9. Still can't replicate stuff I could do easily with genesis 8. Not enough content at all.

  • Sven DullahSven Dullah Posts: 7,621

To each their own! But I can't help wondering why oh why you would  buy the whole G9 productline just so you can replicate stuff you already did easily with G8 (and still can do, obviously)?

No reply needed, I'll see myself out through the back door...

    Agreed.

I did not buy the $5.99 G9 bundle. The character looks bored (a bored V9 & Josie 9 hybrid) and I'm bored too. And I don't need another SUV, so pass. I so far am not wowed by many G9 characters so I just bought a few.

For me, the G9 face controls and eyes are a real improvement. The male presenting body shape is a downgrade from G8/8.1 and the new clothing created for it is a lateral move.

Because G9 is all about the face. Like the first generation of Meta Human. Great for portraits only. The rest of G9 is a huge step back.

I think it's about the eyes only. Looks superb when your G9 have minimal expression. I dig G9 for that and basically only that.

I like the new trend of including alternative shapes with G9, don't know if this has been mentioned here before. It's a neat new way to create relations and general variations of a character, I appreciate that. I'm also very happy about the G9 clothes being so much more light-weight than G8, most of them at least. On the other hand, I found that I could just delete almost all the character adjustment morphs from G8 clothes and hair and trim them down much that way. Since I never use any extreme body morph and don't even own many of the characters usually included, it just didn't make sense to keep them. Maybe G9 clothes are trimmer because there's not so many G9 characters yet to include morphs for? Sure hope that's not the case.

To be fair, I wasn't convinced by the unimesh approach to begin with. However, I bought some G9 characters to judge:

Victoria 9 (beautiful face, strange breasts)

Freja 9 (more realistic than Freja 8)

Olympia 9 (better than Olympia 8, close to Olympia 7)

Kiri 9 (not as good as Mika 7 or Mika 8)

    Angela 9 (not bad, but I prefer Monique 8, Jada 8.1, ...)

Michael 9 (better than Michael 8.1)

Nathan 9 (ok, but not Dylan)

Lawrence 9 (too short, not as good as Trance 8.1, Tyrone 8, Lewis 8)

What has been suggested with G9 being unimesh was more male clothes, but except for the Eldritch Seeker and, with issues, the Adventure Style Outfit, there haven't been any outstanding ones. I have issues with the Adventure Style Outfit because of the zippers on the boots.

dForce hair for G9 - not a lot. But a lot of painted body hair with the male characters.

I made a decision to stop buying Genesis 9 characters. Hairs and clothing only if they fit G8 or G8.1 as well.

    Where do you stand?

I let the train miss me, and I'm honestly glad I did. The output of my kind of stuff was but a single, short-lived trickle by a lone PA.

I bought V9. And, frankly, G9 offered nothing new for me compared to G8F, except less good bends at elbows, hips and knees and an unwelcome slightly soft/ fleshy, padded look. I don't do portrait type images, so G9's serious strength is irrelevant to me.

As for sharing clothing between male and female.. why on earth would I want M9 to wear V9's bikini, or V9 to wear M9's Y fronts? Utterly absurd.

The argument about being able to easily get a family resemblance is, at best, pretty marginal. My daughters look to have so little family resemblance (one strongly taking after each of us) that people are often surprised to find they're sisters. That's real life, so how important is resemblance in digital art? Very minor I'd argue.

I actively like MSO Dola, the only G9 character I do like. But.. is one character enough to jump onto the train for? For me, the answer is no, helped in no small part by the size of the G8-G9 price differential for the equivalent items. Instead, I watch and wait for the must-have killer character. The longer the wait goes on for without approaching that point, the more I wonder if G9 didn't sacrifice something important for the illusory benefit of a unimesh.

    Regards,

    Richard
