That might be the one I saw.  Some of those movies were very similar.  I guess nothing changes.  frown

  • A question for the car experts here.  I'm looking to do a series of images from the 50s through early 60s using DS and am looking for garden variety American cars. There are some candidates over on Renderosity, although they are a bit spendy and it appears that there needs to be a lot of shader work to get decent Iray images. Are there preferences for any of the three "brands" - DreamlandModels, adh3 and Nationale7?  Should I be going somewhere else?  I just have DS .. I don't know about converting other models.

    thanks for any comments

Dreamland Models are decent meshes, yes, you will need to reshade them, a good set of shaders for Iray would be from Tom2099, they are avalable at both sharecg and Renderosity, and they are free, most of the colors are GM colors, but then again, so are most of the cars, adh3d is most cartoonish, so I would bother with them, Nationale7's cars are great, and I use them all the time, yes, they are a little expensive, but once you figure them out, are a joy to work with, mind you, when you load N7's cars, you cannot have anything else in the scene highlighted, the car has to load without anything so that it comes out right, otherwise, you will have problems loading it everytime, when you go into the surfaces tab, you will always need to do the various parts of the car, some of his older models require much of this, once you start using his cars, you will eventually figure out what I'm talking about here, but Nationale7 is one that personally prefer most of the time, especially when doing 50's and 60's scenes.

Thanks!  This will be the first Renderosity purchase in years.  And thanks for noting Tom2099's shaders.  My collection is small and not exactly persiod.

Don't be afraid to use some of the many free cars out there also, of course you have to be careful on some sites, but there are some cool freebies out there, in fact, the shaders from tom2099 were created simply because of a free 53 Cadillac El Dorado convertible, I don't remember the link to that one, but it is in our archives somewhere in this thread or the previous car and bike lovers renders thread, this one is like the fourth verson of this thread.

...there are a number of good ones on ShareCG that are set up for Poser or are textured .objs.

Those in formats like .3ds or .lwo will need converting in a modelling programme first.

There's a really nice Merceds 300 SL that's recently been put up at Blendswap...

    http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/86023

This is a straight export (didn't bother doing 'parts') so the doors don't open or anything.  And I should probably break the headlight lenses off from the rest of the glass.

Did another one...in the 'classic' Silver Grey.

Also found out it's going to be a bit harder than I thought to do the doors...the creator included the 'plungers'...they will be pretty hard to rig properly.

    Nice Mercedes

I'm doing another one now...I broke down and exported it without the door stays, so it's a lot easier to rig the doors.  Although I screwed up with the interior on this render.  Most of the silver ones had red interiors...so I'm going to change the color and re-render it.

  • I just picked up Nationale7's Scenicruiser on the other site... they have a 35% off coupon good through the 30th bringing it to a price I could live with.  It's sizing is a bit off, but easily corrected.  I'm still sorting out getting the right Iray shaders ..  the Tom2099 set goes a long way, but I'm still trying to find the right aluminum..
