    Luetinenant Naji, another character  in my story. learn how to do lips and hair. coming out better just a simple line for the mouth.

    Hey, MM!  Congrats on the staff pic for image of the week over at Rendo!

    I just got some cool news. My Ms. Marvel image was selected as a "Staff Pick" for "Image of the Week" over at Renderosity.

    Quite an honor, especially when considering the quality of the company I'm in.

    I'm actually amazed, as I didn't put in nearly the work on this that it desrved (I need more blue in the mask, hair and the line on the boot closest to the camera really needs to be thicker). Oh well! A pat on the back is a nice thing, especially since it happened on my birthday (...hmmm, wonder if there's a connection?).

    FYI: Just discovered that VSS will work in Iray if you convert them using the Uber Shader.

    Do you mean the Visual Style Shaders? While you might be able to convert some of the basic colour values like the diffuse colour, I don't think they'll work as intended (you'll probably lose most of the important stuff, like the cel-shading effect), so I really can't recommend that. If you want toon renders in Iray you're better off finding a pack of toon shaders that were specifically designed for Iray (such as "Sketchy - Toon Edge and Art Style Shaders for Iray").

    Pslocke from X-men. I had a lot of fun with combining sketching and digital art together. I have done several practices of drawing  the art based on manga style shaders and incooperate  it back  to do  the lineart and coloring in Clip Grab Studios, followed by effects in Photoshop.

    Good day all,

    I am preparing to do a series of videos involving the theme of the Righteous Warrior ... in both normal and Toon styles. I did a simple test using only Visual Style Shaders and ToonyCam at: http://www.zaqen.net/dtkidstoon/. I would appreciate critiques of the work and how to improve either here or on that blog page. Thank you.

    This is an illustration for a detective story; the first half of the story featured that guy studying (I posted it a few months ago), so I had to kinda match the style and colors I used then. This is for print, so the strokes might look a little thick, but this is to keep them from washing out during the print process. Last time I used a finer line, and it reproduced okay... but I wanted a strong stroke this time. Here's hoping it works this time.

    Any thoughts on these variations? (And these are just the top contenders, I've made several differentt variations, but can't decide what I like).

    I always loved Betsy! Great character, and for the time, a rather surprising design (anime was till new to most of us comics fans in the US). I really like most of what you've accomplished here: character design, colors, and love the butterfly effect. I'm not in love with the shadow and the purple glow. Whereas the rest of the image is heading into comic book territory, these look very much like Photoshop effects. Great start, though. I definitely like what I see here.

    Strong character design; good angle and use of lighting to convey that he's a strong character. The texture on the hat is too busy when compared to the rest of your style, though. Notice how it gets "spckled" when shrunk down to the smaller size shown here. Have you tried killing the texture and using just color? Nice job. Have you posted any full-body images? If so, I apologize for not remember them right now.

    VERY nice image. I like the subtle outlines. When using this technique, though, you're going to have to clean up your shadow artifacts (nose, neck, and the speckling on her ear). This is exactly the sort of space babe that Captain Kirk would love to spend shore leave with! nice job.

    Made in Blender with Toon shader. The character was made in Blender as well with a character generation plugin.

    This is the 1st toon render I've done in Iray (vs turning a realistic iray into a NPR).  When you say clean up the shadow, can you be more specific?  Too realistic?

    I like the shading of the character.  The fire may be too realistic though.  I don't know.  I don't feel I'm good enough to critique anyone else's work.

    I'm still trying to figure out what caused that.  It has something to do with how I applied the eyebrows while using the toon brows.

    It was intentional though. I generally dislike full toon scene. I tend to make characters cartoonish and its enviroment semi-real.

    This is the character I made in Blender. I originally started with Daz Studio.

    A redo of an ealier render.  This time, I did that line work myself, using Clip Paint Studio.  Also used CPS to change the background.

    All of them are great, but I will say the last one strikes me the most. I like the parrallels of the characters and the background.It sort of gives me a feeling that this scene is in the night time.
