Love that, nemisis10
Always like storytelling shots like this.
Thank you!
This week I've been inspired by the work of fashion photography icon, Richard Avedon, who worked almost exclusively in black and white, high-contrast portraits and fashion shoots for Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar, celebrating figures in dance, theatre, film and fashion. This is my humble effort to emulate his work. There is an never-ending discussion on how best to achieve photo-realistic Iray portraits and renders. It's easy to get caught in the weeds, on the use of SSS, weight maps, roughness and translucency settings, Iray vs. Blender or Octane rendering, etc. I've tried to contribute to that discussion myself. But sometimes, it's best to just go with your gut. Achieving realism is subjective.
Hope you like it.

That looks great. It is always interesting to see something a little different than the ordinary portrait.
Those are some unhappy ladies This is a great shot! The table top grid reminded me of an old render I made using similar back in 2011...wow that is old. To make it real, we probably need some coffee mugs on that table, lol!
Hey @Ivy, this was great! When she kicked that guy out of the room...cracked me up! Well done
@3dOutlaw Thank you very much . I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Nice work here!
out with the pack
Not my usual fare, but I bought a G8M character from a chat buddy, and I thought I'd do a render. Friedrich for G8M.
I used the new Genesis 8.1 Male base, added Friedrich HD shape and Floyd 8 shape, used the new IRAYPBR shader that came with 8.1, tweaked it a little and voila.
This is Fred, the Hitman, Howard..having a smoke after a job... He started out as a tax accountant...
Still working on my platonic ideal of the elven knight:
The Last Empress of Ember. Something I threw together.
This render turned out looking so much better than I thought it would. A bit stylized but I'm happy with the results.
I think notifications on the forums is borked; I haven't had any for this thread in almost a week. Thank you! I think the 'leaning on the planning table' is a classic shot in sci-fi and military cinema, I'm sure that inspired my muse on that.
I miss the gallery terribly. It is really nice to see what everyone is working on. I've finished a few renders in the last week but I fear flooding this thread. Practice definitely makes the process flow better.
This one in particular I really was happy with. Of course I muddled with the camera angle and HDRI on it after finishing and now I can't recreate it. I'd love to fix the pants a bit as they are a bit to snug in the back.

These are all so gorgeous!
Here's one recent.
That's excellent in every way! I'd love too see more of your work.
Aww! Thank you barbuilt! So very kind of you!
Gou Luk - Queen of the Forest Fairies
I spend my time doing very silly things. This one is called "Whistler's Mugger":
And this one is called "The Clown Banana Custard band":
I'm so pleased to have found this mini-gallery!
It's a great idea!
Thank you.
I'll just post one more render for now. I've got lots which I've been posting on Facebook and Twitter in the absence of the Daz gallery:
Getting reflections just right is harder than I would have thought. I finally got what I was looking for here, but it took quite a few tries.
You might find Reflection Designer useful if you do a lot of scenes with reflections.
It's on my list! Unfortunately its a rather long list.
And a little video slideshow of renders from 2020:
I've admittingly forgotten this thread each time I've been planning to post in it, instead I've been posting my latest ones in various contests here on Daz, on my dA and on my art thread, but anyway, better late than never ;P here is a few of my latest with stories for some of them :)
Last Shuttle Out
Two men watched silently as the shuttle that had been taking off just minutes after their own exploded from the shockwaves of the last explosion that ripped Earth apart, making the shuttle they were standing in the last one out.
Faded Photo of a Farmhand
The Smugglers
Two smugglers sit down for a chat of information sharing, tales of thrills and some laughs.
His Quiet Place
This was a place he came to when he needed to get away from people, needed some peace and calm. He had found it when he was a child, seeking shelter from heavy rain, from that day he had often returned here. The old owner had found out one day but had never said anything, the man had even gifted him this place the day he turned eighteen. While few people ever came here, as most knew it belonged to him and that he disliked having others here, it happened that the occassional animal sometimes found shelter within the walls. Like the big snake that had seemingly moved in a few days ago.
