Mind saying what the hairs you used on those 3 are?
More frames - I'm slowly, oh-so-slowly, working out how to use the pen in Ps :)
For Minto I used Classic Bob Hair

For Ahura I used Bendine Hair

And for Noemi I used Mercedes Hair

I really miss the gallery. I started posting my stuff up on deviantart just as an outlet for expression.
I've been splitting my creative time between writing and building rough scenes, or just messing around with contest entries to help learn the tools and craft. Just finished this one, inspired while planning out some backstory.
thanks
I bought some year end conversion and morph tools to start making the move from G3F to G8F...yes, I have been going backwards until now. This was a Lara Croft render in G3F (about to migrate to G8F) that I posted in the Lara Renders thread, before I saw the Mini Gallery. I do miss the old galleries, just for the point of seeing if I want to buy something based on actual user renders.
OK, strike the 2020 set, and let's give this 'year' thing another take, OK?
That is a great scene, and your set really captures the front hall from the games.
I caved on buying Skin Builder 8. First attempt with it. I think I'll have to play with the setting, but I'm liking the luminous quality (I offset some of it in Ps)
Sunny Side Up
Humpty Dumpty: Mind if I have a seat?
Joe: Sure, make yourelf at home.
Humpty Dumpty: uhhuhhuhhh. mmmm, wellllll....
Humpty Dumpty: You know that's rude?
Joe: What? Sorry! You want it?
Humpty Dumpty: No! I fell off the wall not 5 minutes ago! You could of waited.
Joe: But they're sunny side up! Should I of scrambled them?
Humpty Dumpty: huuuuuu....what?.....nevermind....
I got the Daisy and Kanade pro bundles and here's Daisy unchanged except for adding Minto maps and adjusting the skin settings. I adjusted the hair's tint too
And a Kanade
Karni Fort in India

Not sure if I posted this or not; been a while since I did it and don't recall anything used. Just uploaded to DeviantArt as I am really pleased with it - which is unusual.
My first render of the year was just an experiment with Iray and godrays. I tried a few ways but ultimately settled on a conic primitive parented to the lights with sickleyield's free godray SSS material. I had to add some opacity, but I'm happy with the results.
Playing around gave me a chance to test laying out a city with assets I bought months ago. I have no idea how to make that process more efficient in Daz. I might need to shift to Blender as moving large objects in Daz is... frustrating.
I got Honey Bolt and she takes getting used to since her base and armor move seperately. I used some sci fi shaders on her and Aiko
I just got back to Glamour but this time a little bit more vintage.
Thanks! There's a whole lot of "personality" in the environment and character; my contribution was pretty much just banking the camera. :)
So I spent some holiday money and decided to do some renders with them. Picked up the pro bundles for Tasha 8, Silas 8, and Robyn 8. I also picked up some clothing and iray lights from the other store, which I needed to figure out how to use. So some glorified test renders below!
I like Tasha 8 a lot more than I thought I would.
And I really like Pandora Hair. It has a 1920s vibe to it.
Silas 8 and dForce Saul Hair
Robyn 8. I tried to redo this with the long dForce hair that came in the bundle but the simulation was taking forever, then froze, and then crashed DAZ. So no dForce long hair. Maybe I'll try again.
Used the Mars holiday freebie.I download them, I should try to at least render them...
And...Freak 5! I think this is the first time I've ever used this character and so of course I just turned him into a giant, muscle-bound Space Cat. Just because.
That's it for now. :)
Suburban?
@mmalbert - Amazing renders. What is the feather fascinator you used with Pandora Hair, please? It looks awesome.
My new obsession with Skin Builder 8 continues. Should've grabbed SB3 when it was so cheap! lol
Thanks! The hairpiece is from an old outfit - Performer for V4 with the City Nights texture expansion.
Thank you very much, At USD 1.99 per item, I bought both immediately.
I love this style for portraits, so I will try to make one per day for this month. Does anyone know a good prop for a Clark Gable/Gomez Adams moustache?
Whoa! I really love the way you made those Vintage portraits! How'd you manage to achieve that, if you don't mind me asking?
Oh, and here are my renders:
I just recently upgraded my rig, so I'm finally able to 'actually' use Daz!
(also how do you post smaller thumbnails? I wasn't tryna take up the whole screen... )
A couple of Silas renders
Silas is a cutie! :)
Still doing renders with the PA holiday freebies. Lots of excellent goodies again this year.
First up, Mousso's Vernon with the Metal Choker for G8M, Arix Hair G8M, and one of the male makeup presets from Freedom Shadows.
Then the Holiday Hallway environment:
And.finally a bunch of PA freebies in this one, including a couple from last year. Cute Reindeer, Festive Balls Deco, Xmas Logs, Champagne Christmas 2020, Turk Light, Build Your Own Sitting Poses G8F, Cat Plushie and Lil Gnome. From last year, Christmas End Table and Little Seasonal Shelf.
Edited to add that I scaled up a few of those props.
Yours aren't bad either. I like the way you use DoF.
And no, I don't mind. ;)
Obviously, you don't need a step by step guide. But I will write a small one nonetheless for those who are interested.
01.) A basic scene. I prefer a sitting or standing model. So I got away with a vintage sofa and a plane with an applied drywall shader.
02.) The model. I have to consider two things here. First, colour doesn't matter in the same ways as in other portrait styles. Second, Glamour! This means Very strong makeups with a nice dark/light contrast. No everyday clothing or casual hairstyles. I like the MDS for its versatility here.
03.) Posing and simulations. I need control here so I go for the animation timeline, this way I can choose the exact frame where the simulation looks the best. Also, the battle with the hair starts here.
04.) Composing and camera. 40's Glamour means 8x10 ratio. Also, I have to keep in mind that my lense settings will distort the image. The expression for males and females is always between dreamy and alluring.
05) The Lighting. 3 Lights are typically used in this kind of portrait. Key, Hair and Background. or the Key light you can choose between Loop Light, Flat Light or Paramount Light (hence the name: Paramount Studios). The hair Light needs to produce strong and somewhat blown-out highlights in the hair. The Background light illuminates the wall and I like it when it shines through an object for its shadows
06.) Postwork. I guess this is the part is the most interesting. I prefer Krita for its Layer mask system (somewhat similar to Ps adjustment layers). The first step is the b/w transition. Many ways lead to Rome here. Currently, I'm experimenting with a gradient map combined with other methods. After the transformation, I correct render mishaps. In this case, stray hair, poke throughs etc. The old masters were strong in retouching, they used quite some dose of postwork without our software. So I don't shy away from heavy either. Two dodge layers and one burn layer for selective contrast. Here I emphasize the highlights. Focus are Nose, Lips, Eyes and Hair. To get the airbrush effect I use a very slight blur and mask the lips and the eyes out. After that, I create a vignette and if the skin is a little bit too dark I create an overlay where I use a white soft brush to brighten the skin up. And last but not least, somewhere down the line, it is important to reduce the dynamic range of the whole image. I normally flatten the contrast through a curve layer.

This is a result of a random need to have a pendant. I don't even know why as I have no planned scenes beyond this one where it would be necessary. The muse is sometimes fickle.
I had an idea for this scene but could not find any jewelry (in my admittedly limited library) to suit what I wanted. After some research I found a very rough guide to making a simple dforce flat necklace. Playing around with that I managed to find a setting that worked and made a dforce enabled prop from it. I added a gold shader from AllenArt's freebies, a rigid follow node and the pendant from a free V4 necklace by EILee. I added a gemstone shader from AllanArt's jewelry shader set and set some emissives with a ghostlight primitive. The rest was just fiddling with settings and finding a set I liked.
The figure is one of Lyoness': Every Girl. I have a few of Lyoness' figures now, and all of them are fantastic quality.
