Of the muscular folk that DAZ has done Dain's most realitic in my eyes except for the trapezius muscles. If you look at some of the DAZ Store ad copy DAZ's other muscular characters it's pretty unnatural and weird as the characters look hard, ripped, and flexed no matter how they are posed.

Griff looks like a famous television talk show host I can't stand so I'm not a fan. Wrong of me, yes, but in real life I'd ignore it but buyng a DAZ model that irks me doesn't make sense. laughNot the Dain doesn't look like John Cena but I haven't watched Pro Wrestling since the 80s.

Griff's eyes look a bit too cartoonish.  It seems to be an issue with all of that PA hinkypunk's content.  (Im not sure why they look so far from realistic but to me it's really glaring)

I'm not liking Biogen University. It loads like a dforce item, super baggy. No texture in the pre-load. I have to click each texture manually. Did not dforce well. Probably looks better on a skinny guy.

Wow, mine didn't load in all baggy like that. This is it on Dain. But I do agree, the lack of default textures is kind of annoying.

Edit: I tried it on the biggest boy I have Maxx, and it's still not baggy like that. Maybe your install is messed up somehow?

I will try it on Owen. But I uninstalled it and reinstalled it a couple of times, and it still looks like that. It looks like a push modifier is on or something.

Here's Manu. I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't make this character work. He's got a duplicate navel, strange underam seams, a weird bleached out skin, Toon Dwayne pecs... And this weird lizardian neck. It just looks awkward and strange. Sorry. No like.

So I am not sure I understand the purpose of dforce hair. I picked up this hair: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-cool-hair-for-genesis-8-males   I tried a pose where the character had his head tilted. It ran through the simulation. Left it. Came back from dinner and the hair had snapped back into place. I consulted a friend who suggested adding gravity. So I did that. And the hair stubbornly conforms. I don't get why it is dforce. Am I doing something wrong here?

I do rather like the skull cap that came with the hair though.

In all likelihood, it’s just badly made, like the rest of the bundle.

I know a few folk like him. The 2 navels is just clumped hair / stomach muscles but what's unusual for someone that muscular is the fat under the armpits. Yes, bodybuilders are actually fat most of the year but most 3D modelers don't do 3D models of uncut non-competition bodybuilders. Maxx HD is a fat non-cut body builder.

I had made up my mine just to buy Dain 8 and the bundled military high & tight flattop but then the truth of the matter was I was only buying to get the tatoos so instead I'm going to give The AntFarm's store a visit as I want to collect about half of what it's there and got a long ways to go. laugh Oh well.

No. The two navels is a badly placed navel texture. His nips are also out of place. If you darken him back to his original texture it is easy to see the mistakes.

Oh, I can only see your renders and those look fine.

  • The quality of some of the clothes and models in this bundle- like Manu- are really worrysome...what is Daz thinking?

I know of at least 2 beautiful, quality male figures turned down recently by the store ( now for sale at the other place) And they give us this!

It does make you wonder if Daz made some kind of deal with that game co for these poorly made assets. Odd too, that Bobby 25- who I've rarely seen reply to a forum thread, is monitering the thread on this bundle. Taking off my tin foil hat now

Manu's texture comes from a modified version of the Kimo 7/Sanjay 8 texture. Somehow -- and I've no idea how -- they misplaced the nipples (slightly) and navel (a LOT) in editing. If you have the Sanjay texture (not Kimo, because the UV is somewhat different), and overlay the Sanjay and Manu torso textures together in an image editor, you can see where things should have been versus where they actually are.

I just don't understand what Daniel and Manu are even doing in the Dain 8 pro bundle. They have no Dain shape at all. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Niente. None at all.

... Well, this is interesting, sort of. Manu's and Daniel's product pages have suddenly acquired the standard-type Daz ad copy. No additional renders, just the text. Manu is a "Samoan Male character" and "his athletic physique is just a bonus to his down-to-earth personality." And Daniel "is tall and handsome" and "likes to go to the gym but prioritizes time with friends over gains". Nice to know, I guess.

Oh, really weird. I sort of guessed in the past the PAs take existing texture material sets and modify them instead of starting anew for each new character and I guess the you and Serene Night's sharp eyes have now confirmed that. I'm not a 3D artist but when I haphazrdly did a Dalmatian texture for DAZ Dog 8 all I did was select one of the eyes, remove all the color, and alter the contrast and then retinted one of the eyes blue and it worked pretty good although hard to see in a render when not close up with the render camera.

I think Daniel and Manu are included because it's meant to be used to build a realistic American style military elite squad, like Rangers, Seals or something not because their morphs were built on Dain's morphs. I can see the bouncer suit, as military are known to frequent bars and get bounced but I think they should of instead played up the elite military squad theme with more military clothing because a big market for such characters in video games is still thriving.

There are lots of prolific and talented artists selling clothing in either OBJ or Marvelous Designer format across various 3d marketplaces for very low prices.  I dont know why Daz doesnt just recruit those people or help adapt their products to Daz format for a cut of Daz sales.  (As opposed to offloading these shoddy items that look like rejected assets from a failed video game)

True but Luthbel is one person and can only release so much content.  I guess my idea of recruiting talent who are already selling the same high quality content on other marketplaces anyway allows Daz to increase their clothing library, particularly with respect to male clothing, fairly effortlessly.  Obviously modelling is only one part of the process, so me saying 'fairly effortlessly' might be an understatement of what is needed to bring this content into Daz.  But surely this would be the same amount of effort-investment on their part as their latest Daz Original content they bundled with Dain 8, which wasnt received very well.

I do agree the game hybrid figures are a bit strange. Unless the store was heading towards a dual purpose with DAZ releases.... The hybrid quality is not as good as conforming.

The add copy is more detailed than the figures then!

Did they go away and come back? I definitely remember that being there on launch day, specifically because I saw the promo for Manu, then read that he's a Samoan character, and was struck at how little he looked like a Samoan.

    Here's the bouncer outfit.

I know this is not a forum favorite, but I kind of like it. Mostly because most men's suits look bad on Owens. He's too  muscled, and the newer sets are all dforce which lack detail and look thin.

The Bouncer outfit needs to have some smoothing added to fit better I think. By default neither the top nor the pants, fit as well as they should, but with smoothing it improves the fit. I am not sure why smoothing is not turned on by default but there are some areas where pokethrough can occur if you use too much.

The tie, is the problem area. But it  does have some adjustment morphs.

I must have seen it very early then. When I first saw the pages, there was no text at all.

He really doesn't look Samoan, does he?

They have to create fit morphs for all the major DAZ (male or female) characters appropriate to which gender & generation the clothing is said to be for. That means no poke-through when using the named clothing fits for the named characters and a reasonable number of representative poses with morph fits. It means texturing in high res 4K textures. It means JCMs and MCMs. Sometimes I wonder how much effort some of them are at doing those things though.

I've bought enough clothing in the DAZ Store with newer G8 to know that the fits often enough aren't that great, the draping ain't that great, and there is poke-through that sometimes is hard to resolve when a character is posed with any pose that is more than slight pose movement. I wonder if the JCMs & MCMs are even messed with anymore other than a token transfer via automated tools or something. There are consistent exceptions by some high quality artists to those problems too so you can't put them all in one basket.

When I asked about making clothing content, I was told by PAs that we didnt need to make fit morphs for the major daz characters, just the base genesis character.  I think fit morphs and MCM are a selling point though, but not necessary.

Also to note that the new male outfits apparently didnt come with appropriate JCMs.  (I am saying this after reading the Dain 8 thread, where people have posted extreme poses that appear to result in very stretched geometry)

Samurai Style Hair for Dain 8. This is a simple hair style with multiple looks. This style is number 03. I showed it over the haircap that came with Cool Hair since I dislike seeing the scalp poking through on the fibermesh hair.

This set was recently updated, and I'll be honest with you- I don't precisely UNDERSTAND it.  It comes in multiple pieces, some are enabled others are not. The colors, and what to click on to apply them is mysterious. For example, I made the sides brown and they were darker by far than the top, so I insted applied Boyd's strawberry blonde hair shader, and it made it Owen's usual  reddish brown. I have no idea why, brown made it nearly black and blonde made it brown... No idea.  Since there is no single hair, the user will need to just keep applying textures to each bit until one is lucky enough to alter the correct hair. There are also hidden parts, that can't be shown or they show white. Very... Complicated.

The end result is pretty nice though. At least this style has a hairline and not the default shaved/woman's hairline. But I wish it were easier to use. If they are going to make it this complicated, they should provide color wearable presets for each shade. Not expect the user to guess how to apply the color.

I highly recommend picking up dForce Torn Clothing for Genesis 8 Males. Not only is this an excellently modelled item it is very useful. You could use it for everything from your werewolf transformation scenes, to your shipwreck survivors. The details are great and even better, you don't need dforce to use it.  Great set! A++ Product. Highly recommended. And yes, it fits nicely over male anatomical elements.

The rips and tears look good, I haven't played with it but hope there's a bit of moderation so all outfits don't look totally demolished. Is there somewhere in-between?

I bought smay's leprechaun at the Rendo Store last Thursday. I like his products' quality. I am going to try to get a G8M fit with them. I got G8M clothing to fit 3DU's Toon Mouse easy enough using DAZ Studio Transfer & Morph Loader Pro utilities so it shouldn't be too difficult. I am trying to collect a full set of different types of clothing for each (well known) traditional US holiday.

No, but you could probably mend the shirt easily enough in photoshop. The textures aren’t complex. And there is always raggerator.

That’s a fun idea. I picked up a kissing booth over at rendo last year. I need to make some poses for that before valentine’s is over.

On our favorite subject in this thread, Men, Here is the new released figure Randy by ColorGaleria. Randy comes with his own dforce boxer briefs, and includes, a shiny, and unshiny skin. Eyebrows are painted on, but there is a removal tool. There is no character preset that I could find.

Randy with the heart  briefs, includes original brows and shiny skin option.

Randy with the pink briefs, has fibermesh brows (not included)

I like this character a lot, and I applaud any PA which adds swimwear/underwar to their bundles. I can never have too much. Randy also has a fibemesh beard, however, I left it off- I tend to not like beards that much.
