One last question please. I read that usual sizes for pictures are 800x600. My render is 979x979, does it mean I'm disqualified from the start? Thanks in advance for your reply.

I don't see a size restriction in the rules.

I found it in the general forum rules. Does the lack of it in the contest's rules mean I can post my render please?

I think that was when the forum wasn't auto-resizing. IIRC 2000x2000 and you're safe as it will auto-size down to the proper size for the thumbnail.

Other contests limit the sizing because 2000x2000 is a scroll-worthy size on most people's monitors. Keeping it to a smaller size allows viewing of the full image at once without the need to scroll around it.

Yes, and would appreciate a link to where you found that size limit, so we can get it altered. As Vaskania says it is out of date. Thanks

Not sure if it's the same one Cecilia saw, but it's in an announcement in the Welcome section.

Yes, I didn't specify a maximum size. I guess I'd prefer about 1200x1200 or under, but wanted to keep things flexible (since there's a fairly lengthy list of rules as it is), so feel free to post large sizes assuming the forum allows them.

Some exciting news: DAZ 3D is going to sponsor this contest! The exact prizes they are contributing are yet to be determined. I've updated the first post and will do so again when we learn what their contribution will be.

I've added the following to the official rules: Addition to rules (2013/06/03): By entering this contest, you agree to allow DAZ3D to use any artwork you submit in any promotional materials they may choose. Entering this contest is considered a commercial use, so you should not use any content that is not licensed for commercial use.

(In many of the contests DAZ sponsors, they reserve the right to use submissions in promotional materials...they don't always use the art, but they like to have the option available)

wha....??, I differ from being "comercial" because not all the submissions will earn something for just entering, man, this contest is getting more difficult to enter, now I need to audit my content, selecting what is/not commercial?

I'm preparing my next submission below, but, evaluating what items are valid for the contest, naked is an option? XD

Everything available in the DAZ 3D store (except this) is licensed for commercial use. That tends to be true of purchased items from other stores too, though it's always best to check to be sure. Freebies are where you have to be more careful and check the fine print...many are fine for commercial use, but many are not.

Yes, and would appreciate a link to where you found that size limit, so we can get it altered. As Vaskania says it is out of date. Thanks

Not sure if it's the same one Cecilia saw, but it's in an announcement in the Welcome section.

No, I found it under this link in Welcome section, basically, the thread contains the rules for the whole forum, I assume: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/6_98/. I'm asking to be on the safe line. After reading your posts, I feel much relieved. I think the size of 979x979 would still be okay. The raw renders are 1024x1277 and 724x728, but in my humble opinion I can cut them out of the "safety frame" (I hate when the model comes out half-headed) and it will do them no harm.

Scott-Livingston's Lucy looks great. Did you consider using some poses that come with The Chimp from ContentParadise?

ZilverGraphix, regarding your question: I'm afraid you cannot upload nudes in the competition, the forum aims to be family-friendly. Your picture looks nice as it is though, not need for less tasteful eye-grabbing :). Al the entries I have seen so far are very decent and they help me learn new things.

Would a screen cap of the morphs list suffice, or do we have to write all the morphs down here.

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634
    edited June 2013

Screen caps are allowed but make sure the values can be seen. Mine when I went back to get some screensshots had all the values greyed with the non values so I had to copy and paste every single one.

I made two ab smoothing morphs, one for fitness details and one for body builder details. I will put them up on renderosity as freebies and will post a link here when they are available.

I saved them on my computer so they show up under the parameters tab and morphs> morph loader. If anyone thinks they would be better somewhere else please give me your input and I'll try and make them so they are more user friendly.

Here are two posts showing before and after.

Nice work! You may also want to consider this upcoming product: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/23259/. It's supposed to be out later this month.

This would be wonderful, but I keep a policy of small, steady steps and I know my level, so dreadful is just more likely to happen :-). But yes, please keep ANY critiques coming.

Am I reading this correctly? Even though the focus of the contest is on Genesis characters, we can use a Gen 4 (V4/M4/K4) character?

Or do you mean it has to be Genesis with the V4/M4/K4 shapes?

    FAQ
Q: What about non-Genesis characters? A: The focus of the contest is on Genesis characters. Non-Genesis characters are welcome in the WIP/Discussion Thread. That having been said, the rules don't REQUIRE that you use Genesis, so if you enter a non-Genesis character in the contest, it will be considered as long as the entry meets all necessary criteria.

I love creating my own characters, so I'd like to participate ... if the Gen 4 characters are allowed.

I suppose it's meant for Generation 3 and 4 SHAPES, let's say, A4/H4 shapes for Genesis, but I might be wrong. Ask Scott, maybe even directly.

Ah, yes, that particular part of the fine print...I struggled a bit with that decision (as it is intended to be, first and foremost, a Genesis character competition). Ultimately I decided that if you have an interesting custom character to share, and your entry conforms to all the stated rules, that you shouldn't be disqualified due to your choice of figure. So yes: you can enter a Gen 4 character.

Thanks, and those morphs look really useful.

I actually re-did my ab smoothing morphs and added in Body Tone, so now there are three. I wasn't really happy with my first attempt and after giving it some thought I figured out a pretty good work flow that made it pretty easy and turned out pretty nice, at least IMO.

Here is a .jpg of genesis with Body Tone, Body Builder Details, and Fitness Details dialed in at 1 and then my smoothing morphs dialed in at .5 and .75 respectively.

I just submitted it on renderosity as a freebie so it should be available within 24 hrs. I will add a post and a link when they are so anyone who is interested can try them out.
