And congrats to @Griffin Avid for scoring an interview with the DA Magazine!

I don't think that was me. That award went to the (super-talented and deserving) guy who was showing all the pictures.sad

Weird, I thought Paul said that he'd be interested to have you in the magazine. Maybe the chat transcript will shed some light onto it. You'd certainly deserve a spot there!

@Griffin Bob got an interview as well but I believe Paul said something about you getting one as well

@BeeMKay yesterday Paul mentioned the chatprotocol from Saturday would be on their way, do you know if that comes as email or do I have to grab it somewhere on the site, becaus I didn't get an email yet

All this is very exciting and its great that you initiated that idea :D

Wow, that would be incredible.  Most of sorta do, once we get our series going.

@Linwelly Usually, he sends out an email that has a link to a spaces.hightail.com URL where you can find everything from the webinar or meeting. It's sort of like dropbox. I sometimes get an error message that the link has timed out; then I just hit the reload button in the browser, and it loads fine. I just checked my mailbox, and he already posted the link to the video recording & transcript of Saturday's WS. If you haven't received an email, check your spam, and if there's nothing yet, just drop him a mail.

I'm also surprised about the positive feedback; when I suggested the topic to Paul, I hoped for around five or so participants. And you really learn much more when you interact with each other. I mean, just look at this thread, the problem-solving parts were really great, and pretty much everyone was able to contribute from their own experiences, as well as receive information they could use for themselves.

Also... congrats on your first commercial project! Is it also a comic? (If that question is okay.)

    Comic Book Workshop

    image

(Artwork above by Griffin, Tasos and Linwelly)

    Hi all,

We had a succesful comic book workshop webinar with some good feedback from last time! Thanks for those attended.

So I've scheduled a new comic book event for Sunday 19th of August.

Amongst other subjects we could talk about:-

    • Lighting
    • Scripting
    • Workflows
    • Panel design
    • Layout
    • Speech bubbles
    • Inking
    • Where to sell or distribute comics

During this webinar session I would like to encourage you to:-

    • Show some of your current comic book artwork to the group. Tell us about what inspired you for your work.
    • Share a current challenge that you have in the creation of comic book artwork.
    • Share at least one tip or solution that could help other artists

It’s not mandatory to do the above, if you’d rather just hang with other digital artists in the room and meet like minded creatives, you’re welcome to do this as well!

You’ll have the option to share your desktop in our webinar, so you can talk about your content or artwork in this way. This will be the easiest way to share your work.

You can register free to enter the webinar (standard registration), though if you’d like to have the webinar HD quality recording then use the premium registration.

This webinar is driven by YOU, the artist! The more artists that share a challenge or tip, then the more value that can be gained by other artists.

All the Manga Studio tutorials seem to be woefully out of date...they don't translate well to Clip Studio in many cases.

  • @BeeMKay, really enjoyed the last one so I signed up for this one as well.

Yes, that is true, unfortunately. I'm also just learning by doing, mostly.

But if there is interest, I can show a few basic things in the next webinat, like creating the comic, importing images, vector layers, vector editing, frames, how to do speech bubbles, putting your fonts together, layering functions, b/w/greyscale function, extract lines function, exporting the pages. But that would just be on my very noob, layman level of experience, and I wouldn't want to steal everyone's time.

@Umi no Senshi no Ishi , yes, I'm also going to be there for the next meeting. I hope that more artists will introduce their comic.

I just joined as well. I was very excited to see panels from my comic in the announcment :D

I'm looking forward to "hear" you again, @Linwelly !  And congrats on the panels, I think they look very well in there. :-)

Shame this has petered out, I know there were a couple more presentations (I was not able to attend).  Got my hands on Comic Life and it is so much more approachable than Clip Studio.  And inspiration struck.  You will, hopefully, be seeing some comic pages coming from me soon... working on world and character building in tandem with the first script right now.

    Good morning everyone.

I also make comics from Spain. I have been publishing them on the internet since 2016 and I wanted to leave you a sample of my work. I use Daz Studio and postwork in photoshop using a technique that I have devised myself. I hope you like it.

Those look well done @antoniotrek maybe you can give us a link to the place you publish?

  •

This is my Phantasy Star comic located @ https://www.3dcgx.com/photos/image/2020/title-screen

I've been working on, Im a little stuck because I cannot find a winged triple tailed cat.  I'm learning how to model so i probably wind up making one from scratch.

  • In 2016, together with my friend Francisco Corbacho, I created the editorial seal Situacion Limite Comics and we published on the website comicsquare.com. Then we tried to monetize our work a bit, but the thing did not work out as expected, so I decided to close everything. It was not until a few weeks ago that I set out to start over again from scratch by myself and continue my work through Antmar Comics and publish it in a recent app on Google Play called TEBEOX.

Anyway I share with you some links from my old job so you can take a look at it.

Pity that is in spanish, so i probably will only get the ghist of it, but it looks vers well done! Thanks for the links.

@antoniotrek really neat! And sorry to hear that your first attempt did not work. You have a pretty good grab on the lineart.

@3dcgx She's sure looking very lively! Though you might want to work on your speech bubbles a bit. Have you checked out the earlier pages of this thread? There are a couple of good resources and suggestions.

If you are interested, there's a free webinar that has been going on for a while, and which allows you to showcase your work, get feedback and give feedback: Digital Art Visual Narrartives Workshop

It's a pretty international crowd, of different levels of experience and style, but definiety a good way to learn from each other.

How come I didn't get a not on that webinar yet? Anyway I will be there and oh wow will Conlaodh be there? That's his artwork.

Was anyone at the last event I think it was 28th December 2018? Unfortunately I was too occupied with afte rx-mas pre NYE

It was posted in the Facebook group only, I guess Paul will send it out through mail later?

The webinar on 30th was pretty good. We had quite a couple of artists sharing, and even my co-author was there this time! As I was sharing the latest 4 pages of Division, we also talked a bit about controversial issues and how important it is to make sure that your image will have the intended impact. There already was a discussion about this in the Digital Art Facebook group, which helped me shaping the page where Duon demands "quality time" from his colleague, and her refusing him. The page was "experienced" very different between male and female onlookers, also in regard to what was going on, etc.

Tasos also had an image that he showed in the webinar where he told us about how he had to change the chest area because he got complaints about revealing too much naked boobies.

As usual, there was a lot of useful suggestions and idea sparking going on, and I think we almost talked 2 hours!

  • Hi all. Just discovered this thread. Been doing comics for 20 years, but only started learning and adapting CGI into my work flow. Looking forward to talking shop, sharing tips and chatting about technique with y’all. I’m especially interested in rendering in graphic comic style, which I do t think I’ve totally figured out to my satisfaction yet, but hope to master eventually.

I’ve attached a page from my super derivative heroes-with-powers-and-the-world-that-fears-them comic I’ve been working on.

This is my first comic. My first time writing scripts. My first time using DAZ 3D Studio.

This first story is very basic, though it does draw from the setting and character profiles I’ve developed so far.

I have actual story arcs planned, but I wanted to start by seeing a few basic, low stakes scripts to completion to see if I could actually make comics with DAZ.

I have a lot to learn and small, contained stories, such as the first two I’ve posted, seemed like the best way to start teaching myself the basics. (I still find lighting in DAZ beyond befuddling.)

I have a story arc sketched out and draft scripts now written for two issues, so, hopefully, once I get better at this, more meaningful stories will be on the way.

You can read the first two mini issues here:

    Or here:

    https://www.deviantart.com/unitmcomics/art/Unit-M-Issue-0-1-Page-1-777698064

I’ve also posted a bunch of commentaries about the process, as I found it interesting when other amateur creators using DAZ did the same.

Just a heads up for those interested in making sequential art, comics and grafic novels; there is a webinar this Saturday where I will present techniques and tools I use for the making of my comic Taiduo. A big emphasis will be composition tools for stroy telling with images.

You can find more information and the possibility to register here https://digitalartlive.com/event/ten-style-secrets-for-sequential-art-in-comics-and-graphic-novels/

So sorry I can't make it to this! A combo of work and visiting family is going to keep me offline this weekend. I'll probably buy the recording, though!

  • QUESTION For those of you making sequential comics (not just single pictures):

Before starting your work in your 3D app of choice, do you make thumbnails of your page composition?

And by "thumbnails," I mean sketch out (on paper or in software) a rough approximation of your panel arrangement and their contents (figure placement, balloons, etc.).
