Gargoyles and Chimeras of Notre Dame Cathedral
Thank you Tango Alpha, I have deleted the file but I will email your post to myself for future reference - because I am sure it will happen again!
Appreciate you taking the time to explain that.
cheers
Classic, you know my wife and I are always saying 'you know, the ugly ones that don't have water coming out of their mouths ' now I know :)
OMG!.... I think it's going to eat itself!... cool work
Another Centaur render, but with the first DAZ Centaur

Toon! part III filter
Another nice render Bunyipo2. You are getting a wonderful handle on tjhe Toon1Part 111 engine.
Here's another "Smee' '. Topaz Impression mixed with Topaz Simplify plus Fotosketcher and hand colouring - and a lot of swearing. I had to build the character three times as Carrara kept crashing.
Looks great, glad you were able to get it done despite the hiccups.
Lovely Critters.
And one from me.

Filter Forge Oil painting filter.
Bunyip02, cool creature! And your last centaur in toon III incarnation has special visual impact.
head wax, beautiful illustration despite your love of symmetry
Excellent Centaurs, HW and Buniyip!
And HW, your Smee is just perfect. Well worth the struggles.
This thread is itself a treasure trove.
+1
much awesomeness being posted here...
yes agreed! that Filter forge has some amazing filters :)
@UnifiedBrain et @Vyusur , thanks! Yes I'm calling it dynamic asymetry :) (read that somewhere)
@Stezza, beautifully whimsical - looking forward to when you break out that new Blind Sucker R rated one too!
Trying to do a render a day. Todays effort:-

Stezza, it's always great to see your work.
thanks Bunyip... appreciate that
@Bunyip, great effect of dappled light on that suroawhatever it is :) good to do a render a day (or two or three)
@Stezza, my favourite is the yellow one with the upside down face - reminds me of a scene from The Sword in the Stone' for some reason - the book not the movie
I believe that VectorStyle 2 for Carrara is a good buy and worth getting... but then what do I kow. :) I've only experimented in it once and am impressed and want to experiment more. It renders in Carrara but needs to be exported to one of 4, I think, formats which will need to be converted to .png or whatever. Give me a big cardboard box and I'll be impressed and busy for hours. :)
it looks good for hard edged objects but maybe not so for organics - saving as an epi (??) works but not the ai (??)
Can't remember what format finally worked... finally saved/exported in all formats until I found one that worked since I use Directory Opus to simply convert to .png so forums/DAZ would accept it.
my fav is the green one... ever since around 1967!
Continuing the Dinosaur theme, Trex & Dicraeosaurus, Filter Forge-watercolour filter.
love dino renders..
Wow. N.C. Wyeth-ispired renders, monsters, dinosaurs, fairy tales... fantastic!
So, Head Wax... what's going on? Are you running Carrara 8.5 Beta instead of the latest?
Sometimes Carrara (or is it Genesis?) can be finicky about the order in which they (Genesis and its support content) are kept in the instances tray. Unlike Generation 4, I've seen bad things happen if I change the apparent parenting of conformed items and such. Something causing a crash, other times making the conformed item become some imposible shape or something strange.
So to counter this, I load in Genesis and, for adding clothing or hair or whatever to that Genesis, I select the Genesis line just above Actor, and then double-click from the browser, then repeat for each item thereafter... and then leave them where they end up in the hierarchy.
I recently bought this laptop with a Quad Core cpu - 1.5GHz per core, 4 GB RAM, and it drives me mad to try and work in Carrara on this thing. I still do it sometimes... but it's slow at best.
My Carrara machine that I built years ago has Eight cores at 3.1GHz per core and 16GB RAM and a decent gragphics card and plenty of power - and it runs Carrara like a dream for me. Folks whom might have an even beefier beast might have even better stories to tell.
Anyway, if you're getting a new computer for Carrara, please be sure to get at least eight cores (even four, hyperthreaded to eight will do) running at least 3GHz per core, and no less than 8GB RAM, but I would go 16 if you can... and if you like the idea of Iray or other PBR engines, get a high-end nVidia GTX with at least 4 GB (higher is even better, I've heard) GPU RAM.
I love the Carrara native render engine, so my graphics card is less important to me - except that I like a decent one with a lot of GPU RAM (mine is only 2GB, which was a lot back then) to help with my Assemble room stability, even though I use very low setting for my 3D View. Like, when I have it show textures, I use 512 resolution for that and just shoot a render to see what they really look like. On this little laptop I use Garaud (sp?) instead of textures.
I still use compression, against all warnings, simply because I need the space savings.
thanks Dart, yes 8.5 beta - is that a no go??
I'm finding that the file sizes with genesis are ridiculously large - eg 1 genesis character dressed - 1.6 gig.
as far as my next machine

hey @stezza, that's very delicate , I like the treatment on this one. Have you thought about working for the newspaper unti we all all get blown up at least :)
@Bunyip that water colour filter looks great - Ive tried it but never got anything looking that good !
@WGDJohn - be interested to see your Vector style renders :)
I'm thinking that the object color it chooses could be changed in PSP or Gimp etc... then add some effects there or import back into Carrara as background or even applied to a plane and rendered again... ohhh the possibilities.
My system is nearly same as yours....
