so.... not meaning to bump or anything (post still on first page of recent)

but did anyone else get this notification or was my DAZ Install Manager a portal to exclusive albeit irrelevant knowledge devil

I did download my purchases pretty soon after Midnight Mountain Time, perhaps they pulled the notification before anyone else got it?https://devforum.roblox.com/t/daz-to-roblox-studio-avatar-exporter-open-beta/3058639

I think this was the actual link in DIM

A link direct to GitHub seems odd and "out of character" for a Daz announcement so probably a mistake. I did download some stuff with DIM last night but usually just start the installs and hide the window since the little adverts are always for stuff I have already been made aware of by other means anyway so pretty much tune them out.

EDIT: Also, the information that apparently Daz assets can be imported into Roblox doubles the amount of things I now know about Roblox so I am also not the intended audience for it either.

  • yes this was a actual orange notification on the top bar of DIM where the notifications appear

I have utterly no interest in Roblox but AFAIK it's an online game and odd that DAZ is allowing their precious meshes to be used in it

Same here, no interest in it myself. However, maybe it's a new avenue they are looking in to sell some more interactive licences? Presumably any import into an online game would require that addon - although last I heard the interactive licence couldn't be used for mods which I assume this would count as. I may be wrong or out of date on that perhaps.

If that is the case then I hope it works out since it seems like an additional revenue stream that won't negatively affect anyone else.

I saw it too, opened it, and read it. I'm glad I wasn't one of the people who had installed it.

From what I have read most Robox users are under 16, so maybe DAZ thinks you are one of their younger members :-)

ah, I have been here 14 years so must have joined when I was 2

I am in my second childhood though

  • Yes, I am getting the orange Roblox banner. I didn't quite understand what it was referring to, but assumed I wasn't one of those affected.

I am currently unsubscribed to DAZ Premier and didn't get that DIM message so I think it is for DAZ Premier members that also have DAZ Studio Public Beta installed. I guess I'll find out in January although I don't play RobLox and don't intend to install the plugin.

    I'm Daz+, never-Premierer, and I got it.

  • I am just a base member

There are over 2.4 million creators building on Roblox,

so Daz to Roblox would possibly have a big audience,

not to mention 71.5 million daily active users of the games.

I can't be the only one surprised to see a Daz to Roblox bridge because they assumed that Roblox looked like Lego/Minecraft.

    Roblox looks terrible to me.
(Edit: In fact, I feel reminded of the first official DAZ Studio releases. Fairy on a mushroom in a forrest laugh)
I might be completely spoiled by the UE performance.
    so, no thank you, DAZ

I would rather have Filament/FilaToon for the MacOS systems please DAZ.

I doubt many of us existing users would be much interested in this bridge. However as Artini mentions, DAZ is no doubt hoping to make some money out of this, even if a fraction of one percent of roblox users sign up for this. Interesting that they will grant users permission to sell Daz Originial assets in the Roblox market place. I guess that may appeal to some of the Roblox user base.

Yeah, I have no interest in this bridge.  It's disappointing that time and resources went into this that could have been diverted to other products that could be a market for everyone.  Hard pass.

    AFAIK it's a sandbox game

you can create your own games within it

I tried using using something similar a few years ago called Core made with Unreal but found Unreal Engine itself easier

not that I am able to much more than simple semi interactive walkthroughs in Unreal

Please correct me if I'm wrong! From what I can see:

    • People who sign up for the Daz to Roblox bridge beta (through March 19) get a (temporary) free Roblox Reseller License for the Roblox marketplace.
    • Users can resell Daz Originals content (ie custom avatars) prepared through the bridge on the Roblox marketplace as long as they have the Roblox Reseller License.
    • Users can also use Daz Originals content to customize their own personal avatar, whether or not they wish to sell it.
    • In all cases, Interactive Licenses are required for any Daz Originals components that are used/sold in Roblox.

The meshes and textures involved are transformed by the bridge, so Daz isn't exporting the base assets 1-to-1. The bridge simplifies avatar creation for the Roblox engine by making it easy to use Daz Marketplace assets in Roblox. Daz gets paid for Interactive Licenses just like when using assets in Unreal/Unity. Roblox gets paid (after March 19) via the Roblox Reseller License for people who want to resell their avatars.

  • Roblox models and terrains don't have to be blocky and basic, it just started that way for older computers. It can have very complex scenes and people can create their own models and import/rig them, practice coding/make games and effects, even make movies and videos. My son when he was younger used to make videos in roblox, and he'd make his own models for it.

What I can't find out from asking anywhere is if people can use the roblox bridge to move something NOT daz original but SELF MADE (not something by another PA) ? So if, for a wild example, I made a talking paperclip  stapler with eyes (LOL) in daz, can I use the bridge to send to roblox for my son.

He doesn't use roblox much anymore, but there's a bunch of kids in a group I meet with the parents, and the kids would love to be able to move some things over to play with.

Yeah. I haven't made any fresh content in two years, but the idea of being able to work on something in studio, possibly even with my son, and port it over to Roblox for him using the work flow I know, is very appealing.

though, at this point two years of ennui and entropy is going to be hard to overcome.

Sometimes a trip down memory lane can be worth it.... we still play sometimes with the little ones or do a Minecraft night. And i've been trying to get my son to play starcraft.... ha. I showed my son the CDs for the game and he was credulous it would work. He was right.... even with the CDs, it won't run!!! Sadness of ruined nostalgia....

From the How to Install video here https://www.daz3d.com/daz-to-roblox there is a dropdown visible around 6:06

    • Complete Character and Outfit
    • Roblox R15 Avatar
    • Roblox S1 for Avatar Auto Setup
    • Layered Clothing or Hair
    • Rigid Accessories

From that list, I'm guessing the bridge is focused on humanoid avatars, and not rigged props (treasure chests etc), custom rigs (eg quadruped robots), or characters with tails and horns. But I could be wrong / more generalized use could be coming later.
