Dynamic Clothing Control with 4.8

After purchasing a script at rendo that makes static geometry dynamic, I realized I hadn't yet registered my Dynamic Clothing Control plugin. After accessing the files in my product library, I discovered that the plugin can only be installed into 4.9 now. I figured I would have a choice of installation path, but no - it only installs to 4.9.

Is there a work around or is this a sneaky way to force me into 4.9?

Not aware of anything like this for Daz; are you sure it's not for Poser instead?

I'm sure. It works quite well, depending on the original geometry. I'm not going to post a link because I don't think we're supposed to, but it's right there on rendo's marketplace front page.

But the script isn't the problem. The script just gave me reason to fiddle with dynamics, which led me to realize I hadn't yet registered my Dynamic Clothing Control plugin. The problem is the plugin appears to no longer be able to be installed with 4.8. To make matters worse, I uninstalled the plugin from control panel to try a reinstall, and now not even the basic Dynamics control works with 4.8.

  • To get the basic plug-in back reisntall DS - which will be whichever version you last downloaded. The same would apply to the control plug-in, if you downloaded the 4.8 and haven't deleted it that's what will be in DIM. If you have deleted the isntallers from DIM then I'm afraid you are stuck with 4.9 - which won't force you to use Connect if you don't want to, though it does require PostgreSQL if you are still using Valentina.

    Thanks Richard.

I have both 4.8 and 4.9 installed, each on their own drive. I have the installation .exe files for both. Should I uninstall both, and then reinstall 4.8 using the installer, and then reinstall control plugin via DIM?

It's actually not Connect that makes me hesitant for 4.9, but the prospect of reinstalling all my plugins, especially octane and goz, and getting everything back how I want.

Edit: to be clear, I haven't installed either 4.8 or 4.9 via DIM in the past, always with the installer instead.

Plug-ins from 4.8 will - as far as I am aware - work, without reinstallation, in 4.8 if you use the same target folder. The Daz plug-ins, which have been updated for 4.9, are the only ones with a problem and even then the 4.8 version probably would work in 4.9 (though the Dynamic Clothing Control always has to be reinstalled). I think in this case, though, that your plug-ins will install to the last version of DS isntalled  -hence, presuambly , going to 4.9 - so if you want to use the 4.8 versions in 4.8 you probably do need to reinstall that.

I can not get my clothing control to work either.. all it shows in 4.8 is basic clothing control.. I purchased the clothing contorl a long time ago but is not listed in my plugins.. and when I bring up the dynamic clothing control it gives me no options like it did before 4.8,, any help would be greatly appriciated..

    thank you

Do you have the installer for the 4.8 version (standalone installer or DIM zip package)?

I am running w7 64 16 gigs ram with quad processor and a big nvida card w/ 850 watt ps Ds 4.6 64 bit is my primary program. I also have both 32 and 64 bit version of ds3 all work with no issues, stable! I decided to install ds4.9 32 to avoid overwriting my ds4.6 64 -glad I did because- ds 4.9 32 crashes 9 out of 10 times I try to render, calling out memory error.. Thank god I did not install 4.9 64

My drivers are up to date I ran ccleaner did a reboot. ds4.9 32 bit continues to crash while all other versions of ds render just fine. Somtime ds4.9 32 will just close.. sometimes it throws the memory error and instructs me to close. Also I am rendering with 3delight set to render from the quad processor If all other versions of ds work this tells me there is no memory error, this is a ds error

  • Try installing the Public beta of 4.9 64 - the 32 bit versions are limited in the size of scene they can handle, though I'm surprised that 4.9 is so much worse for you.

I can' risk it. You can't blame me for being afraid to try that. If I do and get the same results then ds will become useless and I will not be able to go back to my stable 4.6 I don't have the installer. If I could just get the 4.6 dynamic clothes plugin I should be fine. I opened a support ticket yesterday asking for it. The crashes were happening with simple scenes, one clothed figure, another time was with a primitive sphere with simple light set up. I was excited to hear of the 3delight update though. I would like to know when it works correctly how much faster is it? 10% faster, 75% faster? How is it better?

If you use the raytrace hider (Progressive ON), expect up to 40% faster...

Wow thanks! Possibly my last question, if daz will supply me with a 4.6 64 bit installer for just in case reasons, could I install 4.9 64 and if it is crashing could I simply run the 4.6 installer and revert everything back the way it was?

    Basically, yes.

But as Richard said, you can try installing 4.9 64bits beta, it won't replace your 4.6 64 bits version as betas install in a different directory and use different settings.

  • I dont think the beta is avalible for download anymore, I can't find it.

are public builds hidden in your DIM settings?

I have DS 4.7 and the 4.9 public beta with the DC control ( and grabbed that new script fast and tossed it in my cart in case Optitex make them pull it)

    edited to fix awful typos

and share quickie test of Rendo script

I'm sorry, things have changed so much, I've spent a lot of the day reading the forums and have not memorized all the new terms yet. DIM settings? is this something I'll find in store settings?

    edit

okay, just found a thread on the dim and looked in the edit dropdown of studio od DS and do not see DIM

  • no in DIM the settings spanner you can shoose what apps you have whether plugins are downloaded etc and betas

  • Unable to figure it out, Can't figure out DIM Can't find link to beta #upset

There's no direct download link as you can't download the beta manually, only via DIM.

First make sure you have "purchased" the beta: http://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta

Then here are a few things to do in DIM so that you can download it:

    - click "Download Filters" and on the "Downloads" page check the box for “Public Build”.

    - on the "Ready to Download" page check the box for "Display Hidden"

DIM is the "DAZ Install Manager", and is not inside DAZ Studio.  After you install DIM, run it, and the 'gear' icon in the top right is the 'settings' button.  Then Log in with your store login.

(DIM can be downloaded from your store account.  Go to you 'product pages' and select any item.  In there should be a link to "Install DAZ Install Manager" which will download DIM.)

  • Thanks you two, I'll try again when I get home. God I miss the old days.
  • downloaded DIM I followed the instructions even entered DAZ Studio * Public Build in the search of the DIM but DS beta 4.9 is (not) showing up. Even made sure the display hidden is checked.

JCThomas I am sorry for posting so many times in your thread.

  • Even made sure the display hidden is checked.

Did you check "display programs" — and I can't remember if there's a separate tickbox for "display beta". DIM can be a bit tricky, it'll bite you in the anatomy if you're not paying attention.

I was sure I did, I will check again tonight when I get home. I even made sure the product was purchased and even ran it through checkout again to make sure.

I have Dynamic Clothing loaded in DAZ 3D 4.9. but cannot load any clothing into it. I have a dress loaded into the scene and selected but no dice.

What do I need to do?

  • Silent WinterSilent Winter Posts: 3,766

My dynamic clothing props weren't even loading - sometimes nothing happened, and sometimes an invisible rig loaded but no settings would make it visible and there was nothing to make it drape.  (was that way since 4.7 but only recently cared).  I've updated to 4.9 after a complete uninstall and reinstall.  I installed the clothing control plugin and it's showing up in the menu after entering the serial number under 'Help -> Installed Plugins' and restarting  (LIE is not showing up in the menu, though it's listed in 'Installed Plugins'  as active).  The clothing props are now loading fine and the plugin is working.

Be sure to select the cloth in the Dynamic Clothing window (Window-->Panes->Dynamic Clothing) under 'Garment' tab, 'Cloth Item'
