Oh wow, that's a fantastic start! I love how you've got the light reflecting off her skin, and I know from experience that's not easy to do on very dark skins. Great job!
Thanks, Llynara. I can't take credit for the settings, but I am pretty happy with the results.
Here's some experimentation with light to see how it does without the headlamp, and with low lighting. I see that once you turn off the headlamp, the gloss on the skin looks more natural. I'm pretty happy with it in low light. I may make a bright light and low light version like I've seen other PA's do with G2 3DL materials.
This is better than the headlamp, but still a little too glossy.
Low Light - this is the right amount of gloss to keep her from dissapearing.
I've never done this myself but am curious, would it not have been possible to layer the Aran skin over the Victoria skin and combine them with one of the blending settings, or adjusting for any differences? Regardless, you've done a great job of it. Aran's skin appears to have more wrinklesbut I don't think it is a necessity at all for Victoria. The coloring is quite close. Aran might have more darker areas (might be a levels adjustment). Really interesting stuff, thanks for showing your process.
I found when doing the level adjustment that the lips would become extremely dark. Also, Aran's specularity map (sorry for the 3DL term but I'm just getting into Iray and I don't know the name off the top of my head) has much more contrast than Vicky 8's map.
I just picked up Boss Pro Light Set from FastGrab. Here's my first render. This is Nicole for G8 from Rendo.
It is a really nice light set.
What a great charactor and the lighting is just wow!!!
Playing around with the new Iray Rim Light Rig.
That looks really cool. I still haven't played with the rim lights yet. Maybe tomorrow. You look like you're doing well with them.
loving the work your doing on the V8 drow she's looking lovely
I really love the rim light image, very imaginative!!!
Been playing around with recreating a G1 character. Here she is in 3Delight - with just the headlamp.
Here's the new one with G8 done in Iray: I was finally able to do the double brows with the new G8 mesh eyebrows, something I wasn't able to do before. I really like how it turned out. This is Elleth Hair recolored in UHT2. I replaced the charm on the headband with the Raven Necklace. A bird skull hanging from the headband really makes that tribal look.
I was using the skin from Eliya (G3), but she was too dark. She looked more golden in the promos. So I fiddled with Base Color and Translucency, but that still wasn't enough. Finally I lightened all the textures in Photoshop to get that nice golden tone I was looking for. This is the character before Photoshop: (I did make some changes to the face after this, see above).
And here is the total outfit (before I lightened the skin).
She is gorgeous!
She looks like an interesting character. The double brows thing is cool.
Fantastic, what a difference!
Thanks! I am using RareStone's Face morphs - love the variety. I just picked up RareStone's morphs for G8M. I was thrilled that he/she created that package. That's more morphs for Michael than I have ever had.
She looks great! I got the male morphs from Rarestone but am waiting for the female ones to come back around on sale. I do have Zevo's 200 morphs, but haven't played with them yet. So many renders, so little time!
That's a great looking character. I don't know how you came up with the double brows idea, but it is very cool. Now I'm wondering how they look with different expressions? Do they move together or separately? Questions, questions, lol
Sorry, been rediculously busy and haven't been able to get to the thread in a while.
Here's a couple of expression tests I did with the double eyebrows - they move very nicely. The first one is an expression preset, and the second I played with PowerPose.
I had drawn this character with the double eyebrows (thought of it years ago), but this is the first time I have been able to reproduce it in Daz Studio.
Hmm, looks like I have a couple of artifacts...
What a beautiful Charactor Dracorn!!!
She is even more stunning then the orignal one.
Thanks, Saph. I've been messing around in Photoshop with speciality skins. I almost have the pure white one ready. It will be kewel.
I really do like that double brow look. Can't wait to see the white skin!
TUTORIAL:
Making Auto Hide Presets for Genesis 8 Previous Generation Shoe Fits, Using Geometry Editor
NOTE: This can be used with any generation.
1. With Victoria 8 loaded in the scene, use autofit to fit the desired shoes. Do NOT apply any foot pose but leave V8's feet flat. They will protrude out of the shoe.
2. Hide the shoes in the scene tab. (This gives you an idea of where to select in Geometry Editor) Select V8.
3. Select Tools, Geometry Editor.
4. Right click on one of V8's legs. In the menu, choose Selection Mode, Lasso Selection.
5. Drag the lasso around the foot and partially up the ankle. You don't really need to go up the leg unless there is poke-through. This will select all surfaces within the selection.
8. Right click on the foot with the geometry selection. In the menu, choose Geometry Assignment, then select Set Auto-Hide Faces for Attachment.
9. In the Set Auto-Hide Faces box, choose the boot you want and click Accept.
10. Now click on the boot in the scene tab. Click File, Save As, Support Asset, figure/Prop Assets.
10. Name the file and click OK. You are also creating an icon at this step, so make it look nice.
11. In the Figure/Prop Assets Save Options, just click Accept.
TEST IT
12. Hide the boot and select Victoria 8.
13. Go to My Library, Figures, select your file and load it. You will see that it loads and fits V8 with no toe poke through. If you hide the boot, you will see V8's missing foot.
MAKE YOUR ICON LOOK GOOD
Not too pretty. Or maybe V8 with no feet.
14. Select the boot in the Scene tab and rename it. I use "AutoFit G8 OKLBoots2 Left G2F." Position your view so that the boot is prominent on that side.
15. Do File, Save As, Support Asset, figure/Prop Assets again and overwrite your existing file. When you go back to My Library/Figures, you will see that the icon shows the boot without the toe sticking out.
16. If you want the right boot to show and the left leg to be bare, you will need to delete the left boot for the leg to be visible.
LOADING FROM A NEW SCENE
If the shoe loads without being fitted, just right click on it in the scene tab and choose Fit To, then Genesis 8 Female.
SHOE POSE
Note - some shoes automatically apply the foot pose - this will warp the shoes. Apply a zero pose to set the foot back to normal.
TWO SHOES LOAD AT ONCE
Use the horizon as a guide to drawing the lasso around both feet.
FIXING WARPED BOOTS
Your boots may be warped after fitting.
Fix - Turn off Enable Smoothing in the Parameters tab.
Shows fixed boot:
Excellent tutorial! Thank you for sharing this with us! It's going to be a big help in getting some of those older boots that don't like to play nice to be usable on the new figures.
You are welcome! Some of those boots are not upgraded, and I really like them and want to still use them.
I think I'm out of luck with things like pumps and sandles where the feet are showing - guess I need to invested in some G8 shoes. There are some nice ones out there.
Wow great workaround! Thanks for doing this!
Thanks for this tutorial Dracorn I am off to try it out right now.
Looks great! I didn't even know how to do some of that stuff. I love learning new techniques. I usually stay away from the Geometry Editor but I'm finding more and more reasons to explore and figure it out.
