Sorry to cause you extra work
oh no @mori_mann I am really glad you noticed it where I did not.
I have OCD but sometimes I even miss the most smallest things!!
I can relate. I did re-renders over a shadow cast by a geometry shell ;)
That must have bugged you real bad @mori_mann ?
It did! And removing is in photoshop was not really working. So, yeah. But then, I've done stranger things in my life.
I use GIMP so I know the frustration @mori_mann !! I have done a lot stranger things in my life as well
Here is my newest project I have been woring on for a few weeks now
I did a couple different versions of it because I just could not make up my mind which way I wanted to go with it then took one of them into GIMP and played around with it and this is what I came up with:
Titled: Car Display By Mandy
Titled: Car Display By Mandy 2
Titled: Car Display By Mandy Boop
Great lighting in this one Saph! It's a neat render - and the placement of the items is very natural.
Thanks so much Dracorn that means a lot to me!!!
I have been working hard on getting the lighting right in all my renders but I think I really nailed it on this one.
@Saphirewild - I completely understand that. Modeling is something I've struggled to grasp. I've modeled a few simple props, but very simple primitives mostly. I really appreciate that @Diomede is so willing to share his knowledge.
@Wanderer Yeah I have been struggling with modeling since I found blender for free but that is a bit too complicated for me right now.
I am now trying out Hexagon to see how I fair with that.
I'm looking forward to seeing your progress with the things you're willing to share. I'm hopeful that I might be able to get into Hexagon, too. I find the Blender interface mind-boggling. Even with tutorials, I'm afraid I'm not going to crack that nut.
@Wanderer Maybe modeling is not your thing right now?
It might just be posing or maybe lighting or something like that.
Maybe it might be best just to stick with making art for a while untill you get a real good handle on it before you attempt to get into modeling and such.
That was the advice givin to me when I was thinking about getting into making my own morphs for characters.
I rather like the black and white version of the car render. All three look good but for some reason, I'm drawn to the black and white.
As far as modelling goes, what I've discovered is that if you can find which program its easiest for you to figure out the interface and get started, if you work on that for a bit, the other programs become less...intimidating. The knowledge does transfer over very well. I personally find Carrara to be the easiest to model in so far.
@IceDragonArt Well I have tried Blender but it was wayyy too complicated for me, so now I am giving Hexagon a go and I am finding it much easier the blender for sure for right now anyway.
I am just begining to dive into modeling so it is going to be a while before I do post anything. I have so much to learn with Hexagon and also with BlackSmith 6.
Here is yet another Postwork WIP I am trying to learn how to set the mood for a renderered model so here is my first go around postwork!!
I am not sure as to why the white part happened and why the shadow followed it out that way.
I know I have so much to learn to get to where @IceDragonArt is but I am trying my best.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
Your canvas size is bigger than your image size and anything outside of the image, here it is the white background, will be used as the finished image which means the shadow hasn't stopped at the edge of your image and is showing on the background.
As Fishtales says, make sure canvas size, image size and layer size are the same before you add shadows. In Gimp, drop shadow by default will resize the canvas so you need to uncheck the box if you are using Gimp.
The other plus with Carrara, which I just learned yesterday, is that it can do some decent model conversions for Daz Studio to use as well. I guess Hexagon does, too, but this makes me more interested in at least giving Carrara a chance. When I got it, I also had Vue and Bryce to learn, of which I only really learned some Vue. But this causes me to reconsider Carrara as a contender alongside Hexagon (I'm pretty sure @Diomede uses both, so that's another reason to try it).
I'm just starting to experiment in Gimp, so this is good information.
Grat work going on here, @Saphirewild. The Car Display does a great job of incorporating a lot of stuff without getting lost. I will be following your postwork WIPs because I am in the same boat. Interesting canvas size issue identified by @Fishtales, I didn't even know that could happen.
I am extremely humbled that you think so highly of me Sapphire. Really, I don't even know what to say. Except that I have no doubt that you will get to where you want to be in your own art. You've made such huge improvements over the last couple of years. And remember, I already had several years of photoshop experience when I started Daz so its not really fair to compare yourself to where I am at, I've got several years more practice! You are learning rapidly, and I know you don't have quite as much time as I do to invest either given those lovely grandkids you take care of!
"If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. "
(From Desiderata)
I like where you are going Saph and you are ahead of me in many respects. I don't comment much because I don't want to sound like a worn out old recording and don't feel I have anything useful to offer that you don't know already but you are doing a great job. I do understand your desire to emulate @IceDragonArt though, I must admit!
Thank you so much @Fishtales for this information, I never knew that.
I did not even know there was a box to check or uncheck in GIMP it was my first time using perspective shadows.
I have not even picked up Carrara to play with it as of yet, I may go after it once I get Hexagon under my belt.
I never knew that either, I think like @themidget said I should have unchecked the box in GIMP.
WOW there is new version of GIMP out now!!
I have it downloading now and going to totally check it out once finished.
I am real excited as the tutorials I was watching today said there is lots of new features with this new version.
This is the tutorial I was watching when found out about the top 10 new features to GIMP 2.10!!
Been using it - it's awesome!
@themidget It sure is awesome to say the least, I am understanding GIMP better now that they did those updates!!!
This is really cute, Saph!
The lighting on the character fits the background - I'm assuming that you added the background after the render. It's not easy matching render and background and you did a good job (despite the oops, which you will fix).
Try to add some will'o the wisps: Take a soft round brush, and turn the hardness WAY down. Then turn down the opacity and flow, maybe to 25 each. Set it to a pretty color, create a new layer and tap your mouse without moving it. Each time you tap, you will get more color. Stop when you like it. You can also do two colors by doing a soft large circle and then a smaller circle of a different color. If you have a star shaped brush, set its flow and opacity to 100% and tap that right on top if you want more glowing star effects.
My instructions are general here because I haven't used GIMP in a while, but as I recall, the items above should be the same as Photoshop.
