Thought I'd drag out the old GTA cars and redo a few. I just learned something. With each set of files, when you load it in Zbrush to edit and convert to .obj files, you have to delete all the DAM files first. I knew that, but what I didn't knoe was you MUST delete the file called "shadow" which is unchecked by default, so you can't see it, but when you check it, tghis huge glob shows under the car and the car is up from the ground a bit. So, delete it also or it will come out showing in the .obj file. You can make it invisible by going to your surfaces tab and turn the opacity off on the file that says "default material". It will then disappear....BUT....when you render the car with Iray, the shadows appear under the car and the car will not set flat on the ground with the shadows correctly put in. It looks like it is floating up above. Once this happens, you will never get the shadows to line up with the car....SO....be sure you delete the "shadow" checkbox in Zbrush or blender, whichever you use when converting. Just a heads up! Took me forever to figure out why my shadows were not lined up. I tried everything...lol. This was the problem. Heres a 66 Nova II.
How about an old 1973 Ford Pinto....yeah!
Thanks!
Yep.. pure DAZ - rendered in 3Dlight, uses a backplate and HDRI form HDRIHaven with IBLMaster for lighting. Model textured in DAZ...
Nice ones! Thanks for the tips on the GTA files!
Ferrari F12
Here's how that render was setup.. Only 4 items - a backplate plane, the car/driver model with a shadow catcher plane grouped to the car, and IBLMaster lighting. What makes it work is some careful camera and model positioning...
That is pretty much how I have always done it too. I used to use a bent plane, still do for lake water swimmers. You can submerge them in the ground part and the water carrys on behind them. Same with a car on a road. I used to use the shadow catcher with Daz 4.5, but Daz 4.10 and 4.11 you don't need one. It will automatically apply a shadow and lighting if you check the section that says "apply if there are no lights being used." on the render settings. Also you can get hdri light direction sets that will bring the lights in at whatever time of day you put in. Maybe a left shadow?...maybe a right shadow?...maybe one behind you. It is very easy that way.
Hey....here is a 3delight render I did the other day. I have tried to render the gas station with Iray and it always comes back black. Even with the auto lighting turned on. Pure black. I was really happy with the delight render and kinda surprised.
I have rendered the gas station in Iray, you need to do away with the skydome, as that will kill the render, and put it into a setting like Terra-dome 3 or if possible, used the Iray Skydome Superpak
'71 Vega !
'32 Roadster
Nice one
Thanks!
Really nice!
That's very much like the model kit I told you guys about some time ago. Even the color. Only the Rat Fink character is missing. Actually, I don't think it was Rat Fink. I think it might have been Big Daddy himself, or some charactature of him, with possibly a Rat Fink tee shirt on. I wish I could remember exactly what it was. But the character was too big for the car and the stick shift was long and he was grabbing it...like some of the models I can find in a search. Of course, the rear end was jacked way up. It was quite a detailed model. Even had soft tires rather than hard plastic. I am regretting letting that go. It might have been worth some money today.

Stock or sled?
Yes!!!
Nice!

What they said
Love the roadster Hacsart! Here is a 1955 chevy I made myself. It was done after an old friends real one. It looked exactly like this. The tires were grand nationals like the grand prix racers have and the interior was all done in red rolled and pleated. Headliner included. Had 64 impala SS bucket seats and a hurst 4 on the floor with the big white ball knob. It had a 409 under the hood. Fastest 55 I ever rode in.
Here is one for the bike lovers. The original Peter Fonda Harley in Easy Rider. How many of you remember the Charlie Daniels song "Uneasy Rider"?....lol. Did this from a GTA file found a while back. Only one I could find with the American flag gas tank. All the 3ds and obj models of this do not have the flag. I have been saving all my renders in a 1920x1080 size, which is full screen here. It is amazing the difference. Click the attachment to see full size.
One more. I did this 59 Apache a year ago, but have since rerendered it in Iray at full size. Came out ok I think except for a little grain from the grass reflection. That white is Tom's shader for Bright white....and it is just that!. Think I might bake it a little longer and see what happens.
Nice Capt. America chopper... Back in the day (mid 1960's) I had a bobbed/chopped 1936 Harley ULH - 80 cubic inch flathead.. Very similar to this 3Delight render I did, save this is a Panhead, and has disc brakes, mine was black, started out as a suicide shifter, and had drum brakes.. Seems that really good bike models are hard to find, especially of older ones..
and by way of something different...
Pagani Zonda Cinque
F 550 Sports Car
Very nice!

Nissan Fairlady 432 (aka Datsun 240Z)
I remember those!

The only Japanese car I actually liked back in the 70's, I remember sitting in one at a Datsun dealer in Denver, the car was cool, but, it wasn't a Vette!
I posted this just days before Peter Fonda died. I just had this feeling that I needed to post it above all the other cars and bikes I have...lots! It's funny how that worked out. Let this be my tribute to him. He will be missed and loved forever. R.I.P. Peter.
Nice render. A tip for you though, there is too much sun reflection coming from the car when there is no sun out on an overcast day such as this. It makes the car too bright. Go to your reflection tab in surfaces and cut back to about 20% and it will tone it down to where it fits the environment around it. Also use the background image as your reflection map in the little icon box there. Just a few tippers.
I had a friend just out of school that had one of these. It was a factory copper color. Cool car.
